A Short Note From The Head Of College Network

Għaddiet sena skolastika oħra minn fuq l-iSkola Medja tan-Naxxar fi ħdan il-Kulleġġ Maria Regina. Sena mimlija, fejn morna lura għan-normal wara l-pandemija. A short summary for those who do not understand Maltese. This booklet offers an overview of the activities organised by MRC Naxxar Middle School. This is an important transition period from our students’ primary daystosecondaryschoolingwhichleadsthemtotheend of their compulsory school age. We aim to inculcate values in them that lead them to continue with their study or training beyond compulsory age. So many people work hard to see these students through these two years. Staff at the Ministry for Education, at Maria Regina College, at school. The Head and Assistant Heads, Heads of Department, teachers and LSEs, clerical and ancillary staff, the School Council, all do their best, with one main aim, that of educating our students. Parents are very important in this process, and their input and support to the school can lead to a synergy for the best of their children. There might be a couple of students who begin to show lack of respect to themselves, their parents, their peers and the school. Together we always strive to help them go back on the right track. A school is amicrocosmofsociety, thereforethisisexpected, albeit notaccepted.Togetherweaimtobecreative, innovative and professional in all that we do, so that we reach our main aim of giving them a holistic education. Thanks to allandwelldoneforallyourendeavours.

Nixtieq nirringrazzjahom kollha, għalkemm wisq nibża’ li nħalli lil xi ħadd barra. Ghandna l-Ministeru talEdukazzjoni li dejjem iħabrek sabiex jagħti struttura, riżorsi umani u oħrajn sabiex dan iseħħ. Għandna diversi ħaddiema fi ħdan il-Kulleġġ Maria Regina, fosthom lUffiċċjal Edukattiv għall-Kurrikulu, il-ħaddiema klerikali u amministrattivi, tim psiko-soċjali espert f’diversi oqsma, f’din l-iskola mgħejjuna wkoll minn counsellor talBlossomuħafnaoħrajn.

Ġewwal-iskolagħandnatimta’tmexxijalijinkludilill-Kap, Assistenti Kapijiet u Kapijiet tad-Dipartimenti, li bħalha mexxejja jmorru lil hinn mill-ħidma mitluba minnhom, biexjorganizzawdakkollulijseħħfiskolakbira.Magħhom jingħaqdu l-għalliema tad-diversi suġġetti, l-LSEs li jwieżnu lil studenti li għandhom bżonnijiet partikolari, listaff klerikali u tekniku, dak l-istaff li dejjem jara kif iżomm l-iskola fi stat tajjeb u nadif. Ħafna nies esperti filqasamtagħhomliflimkiengħandhomgħanwieħed:dakli jgħinu lill-istudenti tagħna u jagħmlulhom das-sentejn, esperjenzaindimentikabbli.

Dan jista’ jseħħ biss għax għandna Kunsill Skolastiku ħabrieki ħafna u għandna wkoll is-sapport tal-ġenituri li kull meta nsejħulhom, jirrikorru bi ħġarhom u qegħdin magħna, għax trid ħafna aktar minn skola sabiex teduka student. Il-familja taħdem bis-sħiħ sabiex dawn listudenti jkomplu jikbru f’dan iż-żmien kruċjali. Flimkien infixxu li ngħinuhom isibu t-triq it-tajba għax jekk jieħdu dikil-ħażinaissa,majasluxfejntassewjixirqilhom. Ovvjament, l-iskola hija mera tas-soċjeta’ u lkoll kemm aħna niffaċċjaw sfidi, normalment minn numru żgħir ta’ studenti li ma fehmux kemm hu sabiħ li tgħix f’armonija mal-oħrajn. Bl-għajnuna ta’ kulħadd, fosthom anke talPulizija tal-Komunita’, l-istudenti u l-ġenituri, inkomplu nippruvaw ngħinu anke lil dawk, sabiex jagħżlu t-triq ittajba. Flimkien qed inkunu kreattivi, innovattivi u professjonali. Ilkoll għal għan wieħed. Grazzi lil kulħadd u prosittal-ħidmatagħkom.

A Short Note From The Head Of School

The scholastic year 2022-23 has been a year dedicated to academicteachingandlearningbutithasalsobeenayear imbued with diverse activities, colours, smiles and a wholesome celebration of our staff and students’ talents and skills. This comes as no surprise since our school communityismadeupof760students,200staffmembers and 47 nationalities. As one can expect, leading and logistically managing these large numbers is indeed a challenging task but I am proud to say that together with our school’s senior leadership team of assistant heads and headsofdepartment, allourteachersandlearningsupport educators, our clerical and minor staff, we have managed todoagreatjob.

This year we also managed to organise our first Human LibraryEventonalargescale.Wehad22guestspeakersall with different backgrounds and life journeys to share with our students and staff members. It was a very enriching experienceforourstudentsasitofferedthemanexcellent opportunity to meet our guest speakers in person and ask them questions related to the theme presented. So many curious faces, so many questions and so many smiles. This event was an excellent example of how learning can be mademorerelevanttoourstudentswithoutthetraditional useofatextbook.

The school also held its first Christmas Pantomine entitled ‘SnowWhite’.Althoughitinvolvedseriouscommitmentand many rehearsals, it was a wonderful activity that not only bonded the staff members involved but additionally, it served the purpose of celebrating our staff’s diverse talents.Onceagain, itwassoencouragingandsatisfyingto see students and other staff members laughing and singing along with the Pantomine’s mimes and songs. The same can be said for this year’s Celebration Day Musical, ‘It’s the End of the World’ which was an excellent opportunity for so many different students to confidently showcase their talents and increase their confidence in frontofpeople, askillthatisvitalfortoday’sglobalsociety. This scholastic year also saw our first Erasmus+ Partnership Project with two other countries, Italy and Greece. The Project ‘Music beyond Borders’ enabled 11 studentsfromourschooltogoabroadinanexchangevisit to Chania, Greece to rehearse and participate in a musical orchestra between the 3 countries titled ‘The Rhythm of the Mediterranean Sea’. It involved commitment and long rehearsals, but it was an excellent opportunity for our students to integrate with students from other countries, learning about new cultures, respecting, and collaborating with others towards a common goal. It was a memorable experience for all. We look forward to our next group of studentstovisitTodiinItalynextscholasticyear.

Last but not least, the Students’ Council organised a very interactive Animal Awareness Week during which both students and staff members enjoyed interacting with a variety of animals and learnt more about taking care of animalsaswellastheservicethatcanbeofferedtopeople withspecialneeds.

Looking back at this past year, I realise how easy it is for a Head of School to get lost in the mundane bureaucratic dailyadministrativetasks. However, itissuchactivitiesand events that make a school come alive and I am satisfied that as a school we have managed to offer such essential andrelevantopportunitiestoourstudents.

Much appreciation also goes to Mr Patrick Decelis, Head College Network as well as our School Council who have continuouslyofferedsomuchsupportandideastomaking our school a second home to our students. Together we have achieved so much, and I look forward to another fruitfulandsuccessfulscholasticyear.
