CINDERELLA SUMMARY Cinderella was a beautiful girl orphaned of a mother since she was little. Her father remarried a woman who had two daughters, when his father was away from him, his stepmother and stepsisters forced him to cook, wash and do all the cleaning while they rested and had fun. One day the king had organized a party that would last three days, to find the future wife of her son, the stepmother dressed her daughters with luxurious dresses and jewels, hoping that one of them would be chosen. Cinderella wanted to go too, but her stepmother wouldn't let her go to the dance. Suddenly a bird came to where Cinderella was, this bird could make Cinderella's wishes come true. The bird gave her a chariot, a beautiful dress, and gold slippers. Clearly Cinderella was able to go to the party, but she never revealed her identity. The first two nights of the party, Cinderella was the most beautiful of hers and her stepsisters did not recognize her. The prince fell in love with her and wanted to dance the night away with her, but Cinderella always fled without revealing her identity. On the third night and last nights, the prince decided to glue Cinderella's slippers so that she couldn't run away. She finally managed to escape from her but she left a golden slipper, the prince took it and went to Cinderella's house, to find that woman, but the only clue was the footwear of the gold slipper. In Cinderella's house, the prince told Cinderella's father to bring his daughters, and the one who had the shoes left was the woman he was looking for, Cinderella's stepmother told one of her daughters to cut two of the toes so that the footwear would fit, but the prince, noticing the cut of the toes, assures that it was not her. The stepmother goes after her youngest daughter and asks her to cut off a piece of her heel, but she doesn't have her shoes either.

THE SOCIAL, HISTORICAL AND ECONOMICAL CONTEXT

OF CINDIRELLA

Historical context: In the Cinderella tale, it is easy to know in what historical time the scenario shown is presented, since in how much the king is mentioned several times, therefore it can be thought that everything is happening in the time of the absolute monarchy and the end from the 30 years’ war.

Social context: It is also possible to observe a society clearly divided by social classes, since a lot of importance is taken on how people dress since the clothing tells you where you come from, if from a lower-class family or an upper-class family. You can also show a type of discrimination from the upper classes to the lower class.

Economical context: In the tale, a higher social class is shown mostly by the stepmother and the king, while Cinderella may represent a part of the lower social class.
