Verity is a book based in the modern days, we can notice that because of some details along the book, like, the use of cellphones, of tv’s, of gmail, among other things; since verity is a wealthy author of a very famous book series that means the book take place in a rich people environment, even Leigh mentions that at the beginning of said book when she first walks into the house, although Leigh was maybe exaggerating since she was a very poor person; and in the social aspect, Leigh only interacts with the Crawford family, some of the editors of her books (that includes her ex boyfriend because he has her editor) and eventually the police.
