Author´s Biography Edgar Allan Poe, (born January 19th, 1809, Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.—died October 7th, 1849, Baltimore, Maryland), American short-story writer, poet, critic, and editor he´s best known for his dark short stories and poems. He is also known as one of the most prominent authors of the Romanticism style. He influenced generations of crime and detective writers, as well as the science-fiction drama.
In 1833, Poe entered some of his fiction in a contest sponsored by the Baltimore Saturday Visiter newspaper. He won the first prize, and a Poe was the son of the English-born cash award of $50, actress Elizabeth Arnold Poe and David for his short story Poe, Jr., an actor from Baltimore. He was "MS. It was first published on August 19th, 1843, edition of The Saturday Evening Post.
The Black Cat. A young married couple leads a peaceful home life with their cat named Pluto until the young man begins to get carried away by drink. Alcohol makes him irascible and in one of his fits of fury, he ends the life of the animal after gouging out an eye. A second cat similar to Pluto appears on the scene, the young man with a fit of anger tries to decapitate the cat with an ax but ends up killing his wife, and events rush to culminate in a horrendous outcome.

Story Story Context. Context. The historical context occurs in 1843 when Edgar Allan Poe decides to write a dark and undoubtedly the most sinic story in literature. The story tells how a man controlled by anger and darkness assaults and damages his wife as well as his pets, even killing his wife. The financial context is not mentioned much but as the text relates they had many animals so it could be said that it was a wealthy family. The social context tells us that the man was crazy and was known to be creepy and dark, after having his black cat.
