Artist Biography

Margeaux Miller was born and raised in Springfield, Illinois. Margeaux is a multimedia artist whose work includes both digital and traditional methods, often incorporating a collage-based process, iconography, and impressionistic motifs.
Her art practice is often a meditative experience and explores the artist’s ability to externalize anxious thoughts or feelings. Through exploring her own internal emotions and anxieties, Margeaux reexamines and translates them into her physical works through surrealist-inspired and experimental mediums. The creative process is a compulsory, habitual practice for the artist, serving as an outlet for self-expression and exploration.
Margeaux is set to complete their B.A. in May 2024 at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where they have exhibited their works at Gallery 217 in several juried exhibitions as well as the 13th Senior Exhibition. Margeaux completed the internship program with the Marketing Department at NSU Art Museum and continues to work and create as a freelance graphic designer, photographer, and mixed media artist.

“oh to be transformed, a and b”

In this two-part series “Oh to be Transformed”, scanned images seamlessly meld with the unfiltered authenticity of personal poetry, unveiling a profound exploration of transformation, self-discovery, and the intricate beauty found within life’s chaos.
Through this combining of collage, tchotchkes, and journal entries, I express my complex feelings into tangible expressions, creating a dialogue about the intricacies of the human experience.
I combined several different high resolution scans into two artboards and added personal poetry.
In the artwork “Oh to be Transformed”, the intricate weaving of the text between the items re-entangles the artist’s internal thoughts with their external world.
a:
“perfection is an illusion, so don’t let it eat you up. life is a complicated thing...”
b:
“sometimes i think it’s better to leave it a mystery... sometimes looking for an explaination only leaves us more confused. embrace the chaos”

a:
“this is a letter to my overwhelmed mind:
life is always happening at every single second of every single day, both good and bad, but still one continuous life,
a cycle of feeling way too much or absolutely nothing at all...”
b:
“just be brave in the pursuit of things that make you feel truly alive and you’ll find what you need.”

“the fruits of my labor, b”
This collection of digital scans and collages combines colored pencil sketches, warped photo scans, and photographs. All of these digital prints are 4 x 6 inches. “the fruits of my labor, a and b” and “starchild, a and b” specifically are self projections and representations of the different phases of myself as a person.
Transforming and retranslating these cat and star characters in different environments and proportions has been an outlet for me to express and explore my gender. The figures within these works portray androgyny and inner peace. The repetition of stars symbolizes the core of my being that remains throughout life’s phases.

iSpy Calendar

For this 2024 calendar design, I set up and took high-resolution photos of 12 separate stilllives. In order to maintain a specific theme or aesthetic, I hand selected each item from my collection of trinkets, art, and ephemera. Each month includes an iSpy scavenger hunt that invites the viewer to slow down and take a few moments to appreciate the beauty in the mundane. The photographs by themselves are sharp and detailed while also warm and homey because of the content of the items. Family photos, accessories, and office supplies are some of the countless household items included in the images. Each one has the potential to evoke a different feeling depending on the viewer. In Adobe Photoshop, I brightened certain areas to make all the elements stand out and be visible. I used Adobe InDesign for the layout.

Website Design
This online website design for “Margeaux’s Closet” highlights the designer’s product photography skills, brand consistency, and userfriendly design. I took high-resolution photos of clothing and accessory items in my closet for the resale shop products.
In Adobe Photoshop, I increased the contrast and warmed the colors up to give a 70’s aesthetic. This design includes both web and mobile phone layouts.
This functional website design also acts as an artistic moodboard for the brand, highlighting the importance of second-hand fashion and finding your unique style.
To add dimention and texture, I used a photo of flowers as the background. The text is legible and clear, while maintaining the classic, calligraphic feel.

For these slightly unconventional memes, I wanted them to come across as soft, sweet, and mildly inspirational. Using photos and phrases from my life allowed me to take this project to a more personal and expressive level.
An inspirational meme is a type of visual content typically shared on social media platforms that combines an uplifting or motivational message with an engaging image or graphic design. These memes often feature quotes, phrases, or affirmations intended to inspire and evoke positive emotions.
To create a dreamy and sunshiney feel, I added glow around certain elements to create a focal point. By creating digital collages with soft typography, the viewers are invited to reexamine their life outlook and find little joys in everyday things.

Ceramic
“trinity”
Ceramic 2022
I titled this ceramics sculpture “trinity” because of the three faces on the vessel. Many of my artworks are self representations or self projections of my personality and identity. The three faces represent different perceptions of myself: who I am to myself, who I am to others, and who I think I should be.
Through the exploration of form, texture, and finish with the materials, I was able to explore those different perspectives of self. Questioning oneself can imply a sense of uncertainty or ambiguity about one’s self-perception. It acknowledges the fluidity and multifaceted nature of identity, recognizing that our sense of self is not fixed but evolves over time in response to internal and external influences.

“MoonMan”
Ceramics
2022
My “MoonMan” sculpture was one of the first artworks I created that highlighted my desire to redefine myself through my gender expression. Often times, thoughts can get stuck in my head, making me feel top heavy, and releasing these thoughts out into my art helps aleviate the anxiety. The feeling of this release of tension and acceptance of self is represented through the dark, ominious glaze seeping into the body of the figure. At first it can be overwhelming and daunting to redefine yourself, but allowing my inner thoughts to pour out has allowed me to see the beauty in exploring your identity. The process can be painful, and it is not always straightforward, but self discovery is boundless.

Mixed Media Collage
“Right Now”

“Right Now”
Mixed Media Collage
2023
“Right Now” is a collage on canvas incorporating NSU Art Museum tickets, gouache, colored pencil sketches, and candle wax. The wide variety of mixed media used in this collage adds dimension and texture to this otherworldy scene.
The lower left figure has a thought bubble that reads: “nothing matters as much as right f****** now”. With social media and constant stimulation, slowing down and paying attention to what is happening right now has become increasingly difficult. Through my creative process, I am able to do just that, and I often incorporate these phrases in my artworks as a reminder to myself. The melted wax halo surrounding the upper right figure denotes the “holiness” of this character. It is looking down on the other figure with a guiding energy but also slight annoyance. I see myself in both of these figures; a constant internal battle of knowing better but also following through.

“eye on u”
Collage 2023
This cut-and-paste collage combines nature scenes, classical and contemporary artworks, and popular media to create a cohesive composition.
The repetition of the eyes represents the performative nature of our society and the constant sense of being watched.
On a small-scale, the intricate cutouts draw the viewers in closer. The references to historial artists also acknowledges that societal approval has always been something humans seek. No matter what you do or how you try to portray yourself, someone will have an opinion.
For myself, the cut-and-paste process is theraputic and calming, and the only approval I need is from myself and my own desicions. The same is true outside of my artworks.
