THE MESSENGER
Term 2 Week 1 23 APRIL 2025
Now Autumn, like a King Strides through the fields, awake, aware. From summer sleep we’ve watched him bring This crispy coolness to the air.
Dear School Community,
Welcome back to school for Term 2. I hope your children had a restful break and are excited to be back with their friends.
As part of our 40th year celebrations, we were lucky to have Jen O’Donnell and Orvokki Britton perform for us at assembly yesterday. Orvokki is Jen’s daughter and is studying vocal performance at Melbourne University. Jen is a past staff member who taught music and French at the school for many years. Orvokki specializes in classical singing and sang 3 beautiful pieces for us, accompanied by Jen on piano. We greatly appreciate them coming from Castlemaine & Melbourne to share their music.
We welcome two new staff members, Clara Schutz and Chris Johnstone. Clara is a very experienced cello teacher, and Chris is also a very experienced teacher who will be working in literacy support in the secondary school. We hope they enjoy their time at Mansfield Steiner School, and we are excited to have them onboard.
We have also welcomed 8 French exchange students to our Year
10 class and look forward to getting to know them over the next 6 -12 weeks. A huge thank you to the families that are hosting the students. If you have an opportunity, please engage them in conversation about their experience. Our Working Bee this term is on the second weekend of the term, May 3, between 8.30 am and 12.30 pm. Thank you in advance for your help around the grounds on this day.
In June, there is a chance to book to hear a presentation from Susan McLean, who is an expert in the issues facing young people in online environments. You will be aware that the school recommends waiting until age 16 before allowing children to have a smart device. It would be great if as many parents as possible attend this session.
SayIT presents ‘Growing Up Online’ with Susan McLean (for Parents & Carers)
We also have parent-teacher interviews coming up later in the term. Check the calendar and this messenger for these dates to ensure you are available and take this opportunity to catch up on your child’s progress.
Finally, we look forward to sharing Autumn and Winter Festivals in Early Childhood, Primary, and Secondary with you this term and value your family’s participation. These seasonal celebrations are

another way we can understand our interconnectedness with the natural world.
