DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY

The Department of Chemistry provides an exciting and intellectually stimulating environment for graduate students to participate in cutting edge research projects that encompass the many diverse interests of the faculty and reflects the highly interdisciplinary nature of chemistry and modern scientific research. The Department of Chemistry at Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education (Deemed to be University), Kumaracoil, is devoted to teaching and research. Some of our major research thrust areas include green chemistry, nanomaterials, polymers, bio-inorganic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, environmental and analytical chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry and computational chemistry. The Department of Chemistry is well equipped to support high quality teaching and research activities. The department has highly qualified faculty members to conduct research in forefront areas of Chemistry. Research work of faculty members is supported by the premier national funding

Interdisciplinary and collaborative research is a feature of the Department. The faculty and research scholars take active participation in National and International conferences/workshops to present the results of their research work. A good number of visitors come to interact with the faculty/students and to give lectures. There are about 11 Ph.D. and 15 M.Phil. scholars engaged in research activities. The department also provides opportunities to its undergraduate students for pursuing internships at private companies so that they can also gain the “industry” experience.

Infrastructure Facilities

The Department has excellent working culture and facilities to carry out research in forefront areas of Chemistry. Research facilities include UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, FT IR, Electro- chemical Analyzer, Guoy’s Magnetic balance, Gel Documentation System, Rotovapour and Microbial Lab Kits to conduct research in areas such as Organic Synthesis, Solid-State Chemistry, Synthesis of Nano particles using plant extracts, Inorganic Chemistry, Organo- metallic Chemistry, and Green Chemistry.
