DEPARTMENT OF NANOTECHNOLOGY

The Department of Nanotechnology was established in the year 2009. The department the Faculty of Technology with advanced teaching learning process, mainly emphasizing on the concepts that can be applied to all fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Medicine. The unique feature of the Department is that it is functioning with young and dynamic faculty members all holding Ph.D. degree. The faculty involve in various advanced research activities such as Nano Materials/Sensors, Hybrid Functional Materials, Drug Delivery Systems, Nano Carbon Materials, Graphene & Derivatives, Magnetic Nano Materials, Nano Biotechnology and Catalysis.

Scope For Higher Studies

Career opportunities for the course exist in Industry, Education and R&D in industries/ institutions. Specific nature of the job includes: Development of nano materials, Design & Fabrication of NEMS/MEMS devices, Development of new Drug formulation, etc.

Students from the Department of Nanotechnology have received many awards such as IASc Summer Fellowship, National rank in GATE Examinations, IAS-INSA-NASI Summer Research Fellowship, Students Project Scheme funding from Tamilnadu State Council For Science and Technology (TNSCST), Chennai.

Research Projects

The department has received research grants from VSSC, DST, DAE, TNSCST to a sum of Rs. 84 lakhs. In 2018, the department was selected for the DST-FIST program and got sanctioned Rs. 77 lakhs which is utilized for the purchase of BRUKER D2 PHASER XRD Machine.

Publications

The research outcomes of the department are published in high impact factor journals. A total of 310 research articles have been published from the department in SCI/SCOPUS indexed journals with an average impact factor of 3.811 in SCI journals.

Major Lab Equipment

The department is equipped with Atomic Forced Microscope, XRD, TG/DTA, FTIR, Surface Area Analyzer, Electrochemical work station, Particle size Analyzer, UVVis Spectrophotometer, Raman Spectrophotometer, NIR Spectrophotometer, Photoluminescence Spectroscopy, Ball mill for the use of research and teaching purpose. Testing and Analysis service to external students/ researchers is also provided at the Nanocharacterization Lab.

Department Of Software Engineering

Department Preamble The Department of Software Engineering was established during the academic year 1999–2000 with the mission “To raise the quality of Computer Education and Research so that it will become a National/ International centre of excellence in the areas of Software Engineering and Computer Science”. The curriculum and syllabi can deliver computer knowledge to the students in both forms of software and hardware.

Course Informaton

B.Sc. Computer Science: This course is intended to give the students a more specialized knowledge in the evolving field of Internet/ Intranet/Extranet technologies. This course focuses on assembling, repairing and maintenance of computer machines.

Eligibility Criteria

A candidate who passed the 10+2 pattern with any group and approved by the State / CBSE / ICSE or any other national regulatory body.

M.Sc. Computer Science: This Course is aimed at developing scholars into mature researchers, able to make original scientific contributions that have both practical significance and a rigorous, elegant theoretical grounding.

Department Activities

The students association SEBEX (Software Engineers Beacon for Next Generation) conducts National Level Technical Symposium annually. The national level technical symposium conducted by SEBEX is an innovative consortium of students in the department.
