one mann’s opinion
As we wrap up the busy summer, Mann Publications closed out a busy season with two great events. I would like to thank everyone who came out to celebrate Kavita Channe’s August cover and those who supported the Mann Charitable Foundation (MCF) at Fresh Meadow Country Club.
I am honored to have built a great relationship with Kavita and the Sip Channé team. She is a great person and a hardworking woman. The cover party was a great turnout! Thank you to Adam Weiss and Angela Trostle at AMWPR. A part of the MCF Golf Outing was raffling off Sip Channé and the popularity was through the roof!
On August 21, the MCF hosted its 30th Anniversary Golf Outing. The mission of this charity is to fund research for geriatric diseases and this year we raised a record amount of donations. I’d like to thank our sponsors including PKF O’ Connor Davies and White Oak Commercial Finance, LLC. We had our biggest crowd and everyone around made the event what it was. Awards were given, conversations were had and friends were made. I look forward to each golf outing as we expand our donations year after year.
This month, we have model and activist Julia Lee on our cover as we step into September and Fashion Week in New York City. As someone in the modeling industry, her story and experience is something we are proud to showcase.
We strive to provide our readers with fresh and exciting content month to month. We are looking forward to a new season of Mann About Town issues as we approach the cooler months. I hope everyone enjoys our September 2023 issue.

editor’s letter
Hello everyone! It’s so great to be back. I’m so looking forward to this September issue because it means the fall and cool weather is upon us! How I missed pumpkin lattes, colorful trees and apple picking!
To kick off September and New York Fashion Week, our cover this month is Julia Lee. She is a model and activist from Philadelphia and has walked in several runway shows for talented designers and creators and appeared in a music video with over 500 million views. Lee got her start by skipping school to audition for a show and her career took off from there. Alongside modeling, Lee also does activist work for the Asian American Pacific Islander Community. Her story is inspiring, and I hope everyone enjoys it!
Since this issue is for September, we couldn’t help ourselves in including some fashion forward features! Inez heel and Zimmermann’s showcase their latest fall drops in our “Fashion Spotligh”’ section so be sure to check out their new collections.
Italy’s also a big topic in this feature with being the credited inspiration by Nick & Toni’s in East Hampton and a luxury hotel in Sicily!
Before you leave be sure to flip over to the fall social calendar for NYC to see what’s happening in upcoming days. I hope everyone enjoys this September issue and I can’t wait to see what’s in store as we approach the cooler months. Thank you to all who contributed!

Valentino Escape in Hamptons Captivates at the Home of Ken & Maria Fishel
Friends of Valentino, including Emma Roberts, Candance Bushnell, Ashley Rous, Coco Bassey, Charlotte Groeneveld and Sarah Hoover celebrated the Valentino Escape 2023 capsule collection at the home of Maria Fishel and Ken Fishel in Bridgehampton. Guests were transported to the Italian Riviera with the classic red and white sunbeds, umbrellas, lemon trees and a beach cabin. Before the seated lunch in the backyard, guests sipped cocktails by the pool and shopped the collection.
Valentino Escape 2023 is an invitation to wander through the archives and encounter emblematic pieces, repurposed for today. Inspired by the joy of discovery, each look is a means to explore with boundless vision. Starting out the offering, the Valentino Animalier makes an all-over nod to the power of animal print. For a slightly darker dialogue, the Escape 2023 collection looks to its Valentino Panther print. Valentino envisions a hypnotic take on a Maison classic. Donning the brand’s name in an entrancing circular design, the Valentino Loop print features a spectrum of vibrant hues. Atop weightless caftans, breathable mini dresses and beachwear, the Valentino Animalier, Loop and Panther prints elevate easy vacation looks into memorable moments.

Event Hosted to Celebrate Kavita Channe & Mann About Town’s September Cover
To celebrate a collaboration between Kavita Channe and Mann About Town’s August issue, we teamed with Luxe Event Curator Billy Folchetti to make the evening unforgettable. Sagaponack proved to be the right venue to get acquainted with Kavita Channe’s award-winning wine, Sip Channé.
In addition to Sip Channé being showcased, guests were treated with an elevated charcuterie board by Boardgasm, Polanco caviar bites, oysters from East Hampton Shucker Co., Adamas Reserve Pisco, Casa del Sol and Gorgie Energy Drink with Benefits.
As guests arrived, the pink step and repeat was on full display for pictures throughout the night. Sanvenero had also laid out custom pieces and fabrics to showcase their Italian suits while fitting guests, which Channe is also pictured wearing.
This poolside event brought a beautiful array of Hamptons chic fashion with matching Hamptons gardens and décor. Gift bags were given to thank everyone for coming out in support of the fabulous cover.

National Jewish Health Los Angeles Black & White Ball
National Jewish Health, the leading respiratory hospital in the nation, held its annual Black & White Ball at the Beverely Hilton with support of the Los Angeles professional business community. The event raised more than $460,000 to support National Jewish Health and the children and adults it serves across the country.
At the event, National Jewish Health honored Jim Carlin of Holthouse Carlin & Van Trigt LLP and David Rainer of Bank of Southern California, with the prestigious Humanitarian Award, which recognizes individuals across the country who have made significant civic and charitable contributions to their communities and professions.
More than 350 of Los Angeles’ top attorneys, CPAs, finance professionals and executives in the apparel, real estate, investment banking and entertainment industries gathered.
“This event and the award have such a long history,” said Carlin. “It is truly meaningful for me to receive this recognition. It puts me in good company with those who have been honored before me.”
Carlin was recognized for his accomplishments as a founding partner of one of the country’s top 40 accounting firms and his civic involvement, including several years as a committee member for the Breath of Life Golf Classic, benefiting National Jewish Health.
Rainer’s award was in tribute to his distinguished career in financial services, business and community leadership, and his dedication to charitable causes in the Los Angeles area that enrich the lives of youth, support arts and culture and empower underserved communities.
Carlin and Rainer visited the hospital’s main health campus in Denver earlier this year. “There is a very special feeling at National Jewish Health,” said Rainer. “Brilliant physicians and scientists are all working together to figure out how to make people healthier.”
The dinner co-chairs, who serve on the National Jewish Health Council of Trustees and are past honorees, included: Gail K. Bernstein; Sydnee Breuer, Rosenthal & Rosenthal of California; Robert Ezra of Freeman, Freeman & Smiley LLP; Ronald S. Friedman of Marcum LLP; William Mark Levinson of Carlton Fields LLP; and Debbie Steinberg. The honoree co-chair was Michael Rosenthal of Baronthal Ventures. In addition to Bank of Southern California, the Rainer Family and Heidi and John Farkash were also presenting sponsors.

Retro Stage Highlights ‘30s and ‘40s Styles in 20th-Century Fashion Collections
Retro Stage, a vintage-inspired fashion brand, recently launched their highly anticipated new ‘30s and ‘40s lines that seek to showcase the elegance and refinement of the 1930s and the practical simplicity of the 1940s. This release provides retro enthusiasts with a wider range of fashion choices and inspires them to get creative while exploring the classic styles of the past.
Retro Stage has always taken pride in showcasing the beauty and charm of vintage fashions. By introducing these two new lines, the brand has taken a significant step towards diversifying the world of 20th-century-inspired clothing. These collections will allow more retro fashion lovers to experience their favorite era’s unique allure and sophistication. Now, Retro Stage customers can find clothing inspired by the period ranging from the 1920s all the way to the 1960s, including dresses, jumpsuits, swimwear, coats and complementary accessories. “We hope that with these new collections, we’re able to bring the aesthetics of the past to a modern audience and help them explore the world of retro fashion in their own ways,” said the Retro Stage team. “In the future, we will also expand into more retro-inspired clothing lines with a daily touch so that everyone can find something they love.”
At Retro Stage, every product undergoes a meticulous creation process. Their designers seek inspiration from various aspects of 20th-century history, movies, art and more. Combining sketches and creative concepts, they delve into the best fashion elements of the chosen eras and blend them with modern aesthetics and trends to give each garment a unique style and personality.
Beyond the initial design stage, Retro Stage prioritizes attention to detail and excellence during the production process. They carefully select high-quality fabrics, such as 3D flowers, embroidery, lace and velvet, giving each garment a unique texture and visual effect. Experienced artisans then use these fabrics to cut, stitch, fit and inspect for quality, ensuring that every piece meets the brand’s standards.
Of course, the beauty of a garment lies not only in how it looks on the mannequin but also in how it moves and flows when worn in real life. To express this, Retro Stage organizes professional photoshoots that showcase models wearing their clothes in all sorts of settings. Whether the wearer is making a statement at a retro-themed party, channeling timeless elegance at a wedding or showcasing their one-of-a-kind everyday style, Retro Stage is here to help them exude boundless confidence.

Artist Gabriela Gil connects elements of the immediate present through the use of line, color and rhythm. This combination in her painting reflects an admiration for both nature’s softness and the human instinct to connect.
“Back to the Future” is much like the movie; Marty, (Casey Likes) is living in 1985, his brilliant friend Doc (Roger Bart), takes him back to 1955 in the famous DeLorean. It is up to him to get his parents to fall in love so that he and his siblings have a future.
While some of the evening’s songs are not memorable, the entire cast as well as the sets are overwhelming. The puns and the laughter are constant in this two-act gem. Both Likes and Bart feed off each other the entire evening. It’s clear they both enjoy their roles and each other. Hugh Coles George McFly and Liana Hunt as Lorraine Baines are standouts as well. Where Coles has the cadence down perfectly, his nerdy ways make him and this behemoth of a musical a must see!

DOMENICO VACCA
Director John Rando has done a marvelous job in that the actors are always engaged- upbeat and bigger than life. The dance numbers too are well choreographed (Chris Bailey). From the 80’s costumes to the more toned down 50’s attire, Tim Hatley is spot-on with his costumes. We move from aerobics neon’s and big hair to tapered suits and thin ties. Both Tim Lutkin and Hugh Vanstone keep the lighting in glam and in a carnival like manner. The sound is heavy throughout giving it a strong feel and a solid backstop by Gareth Owen. Chris Fisher as illusion designer blends beautifully with Owen as well as scenic and video design.
“Back to the Future” shines for many reasons, but the musical’s remembrance will be mostly on the strength of Tim Hartley’s scenic design and Finn Ross’s video design. Both supply some of the very best that you will ever see on a Broadway stage. The car, most audience members will never forget, it puts the icing on this beautiful cake!
Like the musical before it at the Winter Garden Theatre (“The Music Man”), “Back to the Future” will be a fan favorite; and like “The Music Man,” my guess is that it will not be critically acclaimed, however, it’s innovation will have this show running for a long time at 88 MPH.
Luxury men’s and women’s fashion designer Domenico Vacca has reopened his flagship store on Madison Avenue. Born in Italy, Vacca‘s family has been deeply-rooted in the craft of fashion for decades. In 2002, Vacca launched his own label and opened his flagship store on Fifth Avenue in New York, spearheading the sartorial trend in fashion. domenicovacca.com

Milanese All Day Café and Ristorante
Opens in the Heart of Manhattan
Hours:
Sunday-Thursday: 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Friday: 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 a.m.
Saturday: 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 a.m.
Location:
1151 Broadway, New York, NY 10010
In true Milanese style, Nomad Girl is an all-day café and ristorante in the heart of the NoMad neighborhood, which has become known as a hotbed of luxury condos anchored by an increasing number of posh hotels. Nomad Girl sits in the heart of NoMad’s new piazza and joins the neighborhood’s concentration of trendy bars, lounges and restaurants, set to be a destination to connect with friends and linger over classic Italian specialties. The restaurant was conceived by hospitality veterans Alex Cesaria and Rich Simeone who met in Aspen, Colorado.
Alex Cesaria was born in Milan, Italy before traveling the globe and landing in New York City several years ago. First venturing into the art world, Cesaria owned and operated UniXart Gallery in Miami and New York. He opened his first restaurant, Il Piccolo Ristoro in Chelsea in 2017, attracting a wellheeled crowd until it was forced to close due to the pandemic. Rich Simeone, who began his career as an attorney, has been in the industry for over 25 years with a portfolio of more than 30 casual and upscale restaurants throughout Florida, California, Colorado and New York. This partnership combines their expertise—Cesaria’s creativity and Simone’s ambition for discipline and scalability. Both demand quality and consistency as a part of their new brand.
The duo’s creative take on Nomad Girl is unfussy Italian cuisine that gives attention to high-quality organic ingredients. Several of its authentic Italian menu items were created through a collaboration with Chef Fernando Baez (formerly of Bottega del Vino).

Breakfast:
The experience begins in the morning with smallbatch Dell’Aria Coffee, the first Italian coffee roaster in New York City, pulled through an Astoria Tempesta—the official espresso machine of the World Barista Championship. With Nomad Girl’s three separate grinders, the Tempesta allows for incredible customization of every drink with adjustable pre-infusion, pressure and temperature controls for flawless coffee extraction. The espresso is the perfect match for Nomad Girl’s freshly made croissant and beignet selections. Other breakfast items include Avocado Toast, Smoked Salmon, Eggs Benedict, Pancakes and Two Eggs Any Style, served with truffle potatoes and toast.
Lunch:
Nomad Girl’s lunch menu includes Italian sandwiches, salads and a small selection of pasta. One of its signature lunch items is the Piadina, a rustic sandwich made on flatbread flown directly from Italy. Piadina options include the Wicked V, filled with eggplant, avocado, corn, tomato and mixed greens; and the Il Siciliano Incazzato, made with spicy Soppressata, eggplant, smoked mozzarella and salsa rosa—a homemade pink sauce that includes a hint of brandy.
Also available midday is a small selection of pasta, handmade for Nomad Girl. These include Tagliatelle Bolognese, fresh Tagliatelle pasta in a Bolognese sauce made using only veal and beef and Ravioli Spinach and Ricotta in a creamy tomato sauce.
Other lunch options are toasted Paninis, such as the Tentazine, shrimp, smoked mozzarella, arugula, 24-month aged prosciutto and salsa rosa; the Hamiltun, tuna with marinated artichoke hearts; and the Il Forzuto, organic chicken breast, mozzarella, tomato and pesto sauce. A selection of salads includes the NoMad, mixed greens topped with hard-boiled eggs, cherry tomatoes, corn, olives and cucumber; and the Farro, red beets, Feta cheese and house dressing over farro.
Dinner:
As night falls, Nomad Girl transitions into her evening wear as the lights dim, the soft music becomes livelier and the Negronis flow.
The dinner menu is classically Italian, offering antipasto such as Prosciutto e Mozzarella, beautifully marbled 24-month aged Prosciutto di Parma served with Buffalo mozzarella and Wagyu Carpaccio, served with arugula salad, shaved parmesan served with a mustard sauce.
Highlights of the evening’s handmade pasta are Gnocchi Ciccio Bello, gnocchi stuffed with tomato and mozzarella served in a pesto and tomato sauce, and Trofie Pesto e Burrata, short spirals of pasta served in basil pesto with cherry tomatoes, topped with creamy burrata.
Also available for dinner are USDA Prime Organic-certified Skirt Steak and Pollo Milanese, both served with arugula salad and shaved Parmigiano;
Sesame-Crusted Tuna served with a mixed green salad with onions, avocado and cherry tomatoes; and Grilled Organic Salmon accompanied by sauteed mixed vegetables.
The dinner menu will be complemented by seasonal weekly specials, such as Branzino sauteed in a lemon butter sauce served with fresh, seasonal vegetables.
For dessert, Nomad Girl offers Tiramisu and a Nutella Piadina, along with other rotating desserts.
Brunch:
On Saturday and Sunday, Nomad Girl serves brunch with sweet selections like Waffles & Hugs, homemade waffles with Nutella; and French Toast served with berries and maple syrup; complimented by savory dishes such as Good Morning Little Piggy, fried eggs with Prosciutto di Parma and toast; Crab Benedict, lump crab meat topped with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce, served with mixed greens; and Avocado No Breaks, avocado and poached eggs on multigrain toast; along with panini, pasta and salads from the lunch menu.
Noad Girl’s international and well-balanced wine program is a curated selection of new and old-world wines. Pinot Noirs from Oregon to Washington State and beautiful whites from Italy, Greece, Austria and France. Its cocktail bar serves classics, with specialties such as a Negroni, an Italian cocktail that will make you feel like you are in Milan and an Espresso Martini made using Dell’Aria espresso. Nomad Girl is set in a modern and stylishly designed space with graywashed walls. A chic, steel front bar is met with warm brown tones backlit with soft lighting. The overall interior uses hues of nudes and cappuccino browns, alongside wooden furniture, hanging plants and art from Alex’s UniX gallery to give the restaurant a relaxed feel.

Nick & Toni’s Brings the Simplicity of Italian Cuisine into The Hamptons
BY ALEX BAUMBUSCH
Photos courtesy of Eric Striffler and Kelsey Roden
Nick & Toni’s in East Hampton opened in 1988 with the goal of bringing the freshness and simplicity from Italy to the U.S. Toni Ross, co-owner, met her late husband Jeff (Nick) in Northern Italy and lived there for about a year. Their love for Italian cuisine was enough inspiration to open the restaurant still loved today.
Though Toni and Jeff did not start their restaurant career with Nick & Toni’s. Jeff worked in several restaurants including Jams, the groundbreaking restaurant started by Jonathan Waxman where Toni started to work as well. After working their way up from hostess to the pastry kitchen and waiter to manager, Toni and Jeff resonated with Waxman’s commitment to the simplicity they loved. In their own restaurant, the beginnings from Italy, Waxman, Alice Waters and Nancy Silverton were carried to Nick & Toni’s.
Toni Ross alongside co-owner Mark Smith, and partners Joseph Realmuto, executive chef, and director of operations and Christy Cober, serve Northern Italian and Mediterranean traditional dishes. Realmuto creates dishes of the same ethos with the Chef de Cuisine, Courtney Sypher-Barylski and Pastry Chef, Kelsey Longley.
Although the whole menu is mouth-watering some standouts and crowd-favorites include the Romaine Salad, Penne Alla Vecchia Bettola, Roasted Chicken with Smashed Potatoes, The Whole Fish, Tartufo and a day one menu item, Zucchini Chips. If you visit during the off-season, make sure to stop by on a weeknight for their wood oven-fired pizzas.
Nick & Toni’s sources their ingredients from their own gardens and local farmers which allow them to have a seasonal menu. A menu change happens about five times
a year while running additional specials.
The whole team is exceptionally proud of their list of clientele which includes locals, tourists, families, couples, individuals and celebrities. Since the opening, Nick & Toni’s have faced the many challenges that come with the industry including staffing, housing, cost of business and the effects of the pandemic.
“It takes a village to be in the operation for this long,” Nick said. “And our customers are part of that village.”
Throughout their 35 years in the restaurant industry, Nick & Toni’s has stayed true to their beginnings and hopes to continue for years to come.

Lee had an interesting upbringing being half Chinese and half Vietnamese. Lee is a first-generation American whose parents came here for education. For Lee, a traditional career stemming from a college education was the professional path her family always expected her to take. None of them would have imagined modeling as a choice for her. Her Asian culture was prominent inside the home, but on the outside, in high school and other environments, it was very American. Because of her exposure to two vastly different cultures, Lee grew up feeling like she was part of both, but never fully belonged in either.
For Lee, an interest in clothes and fashion was always there. A relevant part of the Asian community and culture is to get together every Sunday, but Lee never had any kids her own age at church. Her Sunday get-togethers turned into shopping with her mom which served as a “bonding time” and ultimately added to her love of clothes and fashion without thinking modeling could be her profession.
Her nine years of modeling started with something most people do often, walking in a mall.
Lee was asked to try out for Philly Fashion Week and after being chosen along with nine other models, Lee’s mom forbid her from doing the show. “When my mom was my age, she also got asked to be a model,” Lee said. “She always said it’s just not something we approve of.” However, Lee’s curiosity led her to try out for the fashion show again the next year and she was picked once again.
To take matters into her own hands, Lee skipped school and found her own way to Philly to do this fashion show. “I took a bus to Philly, stayed with a friend and walked in the show,” Lee said. “It was really exhilarating and such a rush. I still feel that when I do runway shows now.” Having a creative outlet to express herself allowed Lee to focus on the thrill of the show rather than the nerves that come with it. She took this feeling from playing piano at a young age in front of an audience. A run-in with the agent was the start of Lee’s career, though at the beginning this path was always a family concern.

Model, activist and Philadelphia native, Julia Lee, began her modeling career in her own way before stepping into an activist role for the Asian American Pacifi c Islander (AAPI) community. Lee works alongside talented designers and creators in many projects along the way, including a music video for Puerto Rican artist Myke Towers with over 557 million views.

“That’s when the best moments creatively happen. When they’re spontaneous and not planned”
Her parents were looking for Lee to take the traditional route after school but eventually agreed to find a way to blend modeling with her degree. Besides the runway, a career in modeling also includes marketing, advertising and social media. So she made a general plan to pursue the career.
Along Lee’s journey, she’s experienced some pinch-me moments she would like to relive. A highlight for Lee was being on the cover of Harper’s Bizarre Vietnam, which ended up being shot in Philadelphia, Lee’s hometown city. “It was totally unplanned and for that to happen organically was beautiful. That’s when the best moments creatively happen. When they’re spontaneous and not planned,” Lee said.
Aside from Harper’s Vietnam, Lee says her other pinch-me moment was walking for Haitian designer Jovana Benoit, saying this was her favorite show to walk in. Lee opened the show wearing the same dress Brazilian model Adriana Lima wore for the cover of Numero magazine. For Lee, wearing the same dress as Lima while opening the show was a surreal moment. She was able to lead the way for other models and set the tone through that first song the designer was looking for.
Lee has been in talks with some designers to walk in their shows but for this year’s September New York Fashion Week, she’s looking forward to being on the opposite side. “I’m excited to see the shows because it’s interesting to be on the other side of things, knowing how much chaos happens backstage getting ready for the show,” Lee said. “It’ll be nice to just sit at the show and enjoy it. To take time to look at each piece and at the runway show as an attendee.”
With fall being a significant time for the fashion industry, both attendees and models have lots to look forward to. For Lee, getting reconnected with designers she was able to meet at the Summer Sizzle event held in the British Virgin Islands by Terry Donovan is something she’s looking forward to. “We had a whole night of runway shoes. I’m excited to reconnect and kick off fashion week with them,” Lee said.
For each show, a model will have a different walk according to what the designer envisions. With beachy clothes, a walk could be flowy and with gender-neutral clothes, like Lee experienced with NYC designer LANDEROS, the walk doesn’t require a super feminine touch, and allows streetwear looks to be casual. Lee uses music and cues from the designer to put herself into different characters. “I think that listening to the designers, what they want for the walk, knowing what you’re wearing and kind of channeling that with your core is important when it comes to walking,” Lee said. She goes on to note how garments that don’t fit all too well require a “make it work” mentality. “I’ve had dresses that are a bit too long, so I scrunched them up on the side. You may have to take bigger strides, so the dress doesn’t get caught in your heel speed and pace too.”
Julia Lee, the model, is also Julia Lee, the activist. After a hate crime in April of 2021, she took to social media to speak up and found people were asking how to help after not being informed about what was happening. People started reaching out to Lee to host rallies and events and through these Lee was able to connect with other activists.
After growing up in a culture where it is expected to respect your elders, Lee was appalled after hearing about a grandmother getting assaulted in New York. “I want to be able to speak up for the people who might not be in a position to say something,” Lee said. “I wanted to say hey, what you’re doing isn’t okay and stand up for my community.”
In Lee’s future, she hopes to tell her story more and educate people. She hopes to tell stories that resonate with people and take her modeling into further avenues like acting to produce her own film that shares stories about people who haven’t been heard yet. For Lee, using her platform is allowing her to give the AAPI community a voice and show who they really are.

Introducing
Avant Mar, Naoussa A Unique Village-Within-A-Village Style HotelOn This Beautiful, Unpoilt Greek Island
A chic new boutique hotel, Avant Mar has opened its doors on the charming island of Paros, often dubbed “the best all-around Greek island” with a reputation as one of the friendliest islands in the Cyclades.
A stone’s throw from the charming fi shing village of Naoussa, Avant Mar exemplifies the quintessence of relaxed Greek living and strikes the balance between contemporary design, traditional architecture and informal yet elegant hospitality. The restaurant opening alongside Avant is Matsuhisa Paros. This eatery brings internationally renowned Nobu-style cuisine to the Cycladic Island for the fi rst time.
Avant Mar was built in a “village within a village” style, with a stylish community of 38 rooms and suites. Paros is hailed as being a traditional, peaceful island that exemplifies the essence of Greece, rich in natural beauty and home to historic villages, bougainvillea-laden alleys, endless golden beaches and secret coves waiting to be explored.
Set The Scene
With the hotel’s name inspired by post-modernism and the “Avant Garde” movement, Paros has been revered since ancient times thanks to the Parian marble that created some of the world’s great sculptural masterpieces, such as the Venus de Milo and Winged Victory of Samothrace. The island played a pivotal role in crafting the architectural identity of the Aegean Islands, which remains a lure for travelers to both Paros and the Cyclades as a destination. Translating literally as “in front of the sea,” Avant Mar is located right on the shores
of the Aegean waters and stretches across Piperi beach – hailed as the most charming beach on the island – and offers thoughtful service, inspired gastronomy and bespoke experiences for all tastes. It is also just a four-minute walk from vibrant Naoussa and is easily accessible from both Paros and Athens by plane, or from the ports of Piraeus and Rafi na by high-speed ferry. Once in Paros, Avant Mar is a quick 15-minute drive from the port of Parikia.
A Nautical Design Aesthetic in Harmony with The Cycladic Landscape
Each of the hotel’s rooms, seven of which are luxury suites with private plunge pools, are a contemporary interpretation of nautical style incorporating Greek heritage elements. An ode to the island, white marble is a star feature throughout the design, while the dominance of light colors and natural passages of light and air in the interiors create an atmosphere of relaxation and well-being, intended as an extension of the natural palette of Naoussa’s landscape. Each element works in harmony with the island, such as flooring comprised of asymmetrical white marble slabs and off-white joints, designed as a modern version of the traditional paving found in settlements across the island. At the heart of the hotel is a 55-metre-long swimming pool, designed to create a sense of union with the nearby sea.
Throughout Avant Mar, interior accents draw from traditional Parian architecture such as arches, recesses, geometric patterns and imperfect shapes. Curved surfaces and embossed elements – complemented by shades of blues of the sea, white of the traditional Cycladic houses, and the golden shade
of the sand – create the Avant Mar color palette, a concept designed by Chadios Architects.
Matsuhisa Paros – the New Gastronomic Hotspot of Paros
Avant Mar welcomes the globally acclaimed cuisine of Chef Nobu Matsuhisa to Paros with the opening of Matsuhisa Paros. Adding to the existing 14 locations worldwide, this is the fi rst taste of Nobu-style cuisine on the island, set within a beautiful Mediterranean garden by the sea. Encompassing an inviting open kitchen concept and a vibrant sushi bar, the atmosphere at Matsuhisa Paros is cosmopolitan and buzzing, with a resident DJ. A modern Japanese aesthetic blends seamlessly with the architecture of the restaurant, with gentle curves and wooden cylindrical frames to bring together the space.
The gastronomic offering is complete with all-day dining restaurant Thymes, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner by the pool in “bistronomy” style. In another special corner of the hotel, sweet-toothed guests can fi nd Fig’s pastry shop, serving traditional Greek sweets and pastries.
Wellbeing Rooted in Ancient Greece
The wellness area at Avant Mar evokes the ambiance of the ancient thermal baths of Asklepios, a temple dedicated to Asclepius, the god of medicine and healing. Just as light, air and water were considered to have healing powers in ancient Greek times, the semi-outdoor design of the hotel’s tranquil wellness area has been based on this principle. Treatments can be enjoyed outdoors, and there is also an open-air theatre for yoga and Pilates.

This enchanting Spanish island, part of the Balearic archipelago, has long been a favorite among travelers seeking a harmonious blend of stunning landscapes and rich history. With its diverse towns and leisure activities, Mallorca promises an unforgettable journey that caters to every type of traveler.
From the seaside to the city, Mallorca offers a kaleidoscope of options when choosing the ideal place to stay. Each town possesses a particular character, proudly reflecting the island’s past, which dates back centuries. Because of Mallorca’s strategic location in the Mediterranean, control of the island was crucial throughout European history. From the Romans to the Vandals, the Moors, and finally, Spain, Mallorca is a fascinating tapestry of culture and tradition.
Palma de Mallorca:
Palma, Mallorca’s capital, is a vibrant gateway to the island and perfectly combines modern amenities and historical allure. Here you will find a bustling port town on the Bay of Palma offering plenty of beaches and historical sites to explore.
The elegant Catedral-Basilica de Santa Maria de Mallorca, a magnificent example of Gothic architecture, stands tall and has breathtaking views of the city and the sea. Nearby, Bellver Castle, the first circular castle built in Europe, is an impressive medieval fortress dating back to the 14th-century perched above the city. Take in the Moorish influences in structures like the Arab Baths or spend a relaxing afternoon at the Parc de la Mar.
Culinary connoisseurs will relish in the island’s gastronomic delights, and with some of the finest restaurants found in Palma, it has become a powerhouse foodie destination. Given its multifarious background, it is no surprise that Mallorcan cuisine boasts a fusion of Mediterranean flavors. Every bite is a journey through the island’s culinary heritage, from fresh seafood dishes like paella to traditional cured sobrassada sausages. Sidestep the mainstream and scout local markets to savor some of the island’s authentic flavors.
The charming, winding streets and hidden squares of Palma’s old town are the city’s heartbeat. With trendy shops, innovative dining options and many boutique hotels, Palma is a fantastic place to call home while visiting.
Santanyi and Cala Mondragó Natural Park:
For a day trip from Palma, visit Cala Mondragó Natural Park, a preserved wetland and sanctuary for indigenous birds. Located on the southeastern coast of Mallorca, this area is home to Mallorca’s best white sand beaches, dazzling turquoise waters and verdant pine forests. Sun on the beach, hike its coastal trails and immerse yourself in nature’s splendor.
Time permitting, opt for a short stay in one of the area’s boutique hotels or agriturismos and visit the quiet, rural village of Santanyi. This “golden stone” village offers various dining options, art galleries and local shops. On Saturday, visit the town’s well-known outdoor market, one of the best on the island.
Sóller:
For those seeking a quiet ambiance, the off-the-beaten-path town of Sóller and nearby Port de Sóller are ideal retreats. Known for its romantic architecture, orange groves and quaint tram system, Sóller provides a serene escape from

the busy outside world. While much smaller than Palma, there is an abundance of artisanal shops and delicious dining and accommodation options to choose from.
Situated in the Tramuntana Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Sóller is an outdoor wonderland. From the Port de Sóller, you can access a variety of watersports, from scuba diving to paddleboarding. Here, sailing enthusiasts can navigate the Mediterranean’s gentle waves, discovering hidden coves, known as “calas” and other coastal treasures. On land, plenty of day hikes are available in the area and provide incredible views of the surrounding valley and distinctive mountain peaks.
Be sure to visit the nearby scenic village of Valldemossa, where composer Frédéric Chopin once found an escape with French novelist George Sand. Valldemossa enchants visitors with its cobblestone streets, flower-laden balconies and remarkable architecture. Other villages worth a visit are Fornalutx and Biniarix for their picturesque town centers set against the majestic natural landscape.
Pollença:
Offering easy access to explore the Cap de Formentor peninsula and nearby idyllic Alcúdia, the ancient village of Pollença is a terrific place to visit to discover the northeastern part of the island. While not on the sea, this inland gem nestled in the foothills of the Tramuntana Mountains is a delightful stop on a Mallorcan adventure. Think ancient village, main square, cute cafes and artisan shops. Visit Puig de Maria, a 14th-century monastery, and the Calvary Chapel, once owned by the Knights Templar, for show-stopping views of Cap de Formentor and the surrounding area. Given its small size, plan ahead as there is just a small selection of accommodation options in the area.
Deià:
Deià, one of the island’s most picturesque villages, sits beautifully above the sea. Also located in the Tramuntana Mountains, it is known for its laid-back atmosphere, spellbinding ocean views and luxury hotel choices. While there is plenty to do, such as hiking, biking and watersports, the serenity of the sea combined with the village’s terracotta roofs and stone facades lulls visitors into a peaceful calm. Artists and writers have long found solace in Deià, drawn to its captivating aura that sparks creativity.
A must-see is Cala Deià, a small, secluded rocky beach showcasing crystal clear water and a minimalist vibe. Home to just two restaurants and a few other amenities, Cala Deià is known for its charm, pristine waters and spectacular location.
Mallorca embodies a paradise that beckons travelers with its unique towns, myriad of activities and rich cultural past. From the historic beauty of Palma to the tranquility of Deià and the beachfront allure of Sóller and Santanyi, the island delivers a range of experiences tailored to every traveler’s taste. Whether seeking adventure, relaxation or a blend of both, Mallorca invites you to uncover its treasures and create unforgettable memories with family and friends.

Inez Puts Quality Over Quantity to Design Heels Women Love
BY ALEX BAUMBUSCH
Photos courtesy of INEZ
After studying apparel design, Hannah Spinelli, founder and creative director of Inez, landed her first design job in Italy. While living in Florence, Spinelli became obsessed with local footwear and custom shoemaker shops. She found herself back in New York in the late 90s with an itch to learn how shoes were made and soon returned to Italy where she landed back in one of the global fashion capitals, Milan. Spinelli worked at Ralph Lauren for more than 10 years where she had the opportunity to work with top-tier factories.
The concept for Inez came from Spinelli’s own experience. She lost the tolerance for uncomfortable shoes and knew many women that felt the same. “I never expect heels to feel like sneakers, but I knew it was possible to make them more comfortable,” Spinelli said. “Inez is inspired by the idea to create shoes that make women feel beautiful while prioritizing their comfort.”
Although the inspiration came organically, the name Inez did not. The team wished to acknowledge its Spanish craftsmanship and liked the simplicity and familiarity of a woman’s name. There were a lot of contenders, and it took months to decide, but ultimately everyone loved the sound and look of Inez.
For a creative director and founder, picking a favorite shoe is difficult. As a New Yorker, Spinelli walks a lot and finds herself wearing the Mila boot the most. In these heels, she never has to think twice about where the day will take her.
Spinelli’s favorite style from the fall collection is Cleo, a black patent Mary Jane pump. Cleo blends vintage 90s vibes with modern elegance.

Manufacturing shoes in Spain is a key part of Inez’s ethos. Spain has shoemaking that dates back many generations and as well as advanced technical capabilities. “Our proprietary insoles are developed by biomechanics engineers and then tailored to fit into our heels by expert shoemakers,” Spinelli said. “Spain offers this mix of modern technology and old-world know-how that is fundamental to the look and function of our heels.”
Spain is also known for high quality leather, particularly nappa and kid suede that are soft yet resilient. High quality materials, proprietary insoles with arch support and multiple width options make Inez heels a game changer for many women.
At Inez, a concept called “enduring fashion” is the internal compass for how they do things. Inez focuses on small batch production and tight inventory management to fi ght the overstock issue in the footwear industry. They also offer a concentrated and focused collection. “From a design standpoint, I want our customers to enjoy styles that are well made and relevant for years to come,” Spinelli said.
For the upcoming Fall collection, Inez is introducing new styles alongside their best-sellers in updated materials and colors. The aesthetic focuses on clean lines and pure shapes featured in luxe materials and textures. The palette features deep rich burgundy and olive calf, velvety chestnut suede and dark metallics.
The new collection will also showcase wide-calf options for their boots.
For anyone looking to start a line, Spinelli suggests working at a company to get an understanding of the design and development process. She also suggests learning the language of the shoemaking location. “Being able to communicate directly with the heel and pattern makers and technicians without an interpreter is super valuable,” Spinelli said.
The success of Inez is driven by Spinelli and her vision for comfortable heels. Their objective is to always make women feel beautiful in comfort.

Zimmermann Returns to Paris to Showcase its Fall 2023 Ready-to-Wear Collection
The Australian brand founded by sisters Nicky and Simone Zimmermann is well known for its dresses and bikinis. With one look, their clothing catches your eye with beautiful color combinations and sophisticated patterns. The Fall 2023 collection explores luminosity through detailed clothes, jewelry and accessories.
“For Fall I was inspired by the artwork of Rupert Bunny, an Australian artist from the turn of the last century. I was drawn to his use of color and the romanticism of his work - the gentle and dreamy lifestyle scenes. There is a glow, a warmth and an optimism to his work that is really appealing to me. I was given the opportunity to work with a selection of his paintings by the National Victorian Gallery and we have crafted these into some of our key collection prints. Bunny’s works have also influenced the mood of the collection more generally,” said Creative Director Nicky Zimmermann.
That mood is Languid. Luminous. Lush. A refreshing stroll through a wardrobe of romantic silhouettes, indulgent textures and lounge-worthy separates remixed with a strong dose of denim and boxy tailoring.
Artist Rupert Bunny’s idyllic scenes play out across floating skirts and draped dresses; the essence carried through in the lingerie cues of slip dresses, lace bodysuits and floating, sheer fabrications in sepia tones of dirty mustard, faded lilac and macadamia. Zimmermann’s signature for dramatic proportions and generous flounce fi nds itself dressed down and spliced up by layers of tweed, smooth chocolate leather and cozy wool knits. Petite bralettes and wool bustiers are enveloped by wide-shouldered suiting and wrap-me-up doona jackets.
A particular focus on denim brings an intentionally easy attitude to dressing for the season. Breezy nightgown shirt dresses overlay briny blue stove pipes. Faded vintage washes are mixed and matched with intense ruffled knit-lace tops in peachy hues and draped minis. A double-breasted blazer completes an all-denim look, featuring custom hardware worn with embroidered cowboy boots.
Bouncy black evening dresses with embroidered poetry diverge into several simple and elegant LBDs. A rich velvet sheath gown with an off-the-shoulder cream lace bodice is equal parts indulgent and restrained. Shimmering tones contrast the black, shining in slinky lurex translucent prints, with gold and opal jewelry statements.

Raven Golf Club:
This is a natural wonder that presents drama and strategy on every tee. It’s 2023. This is what’s happening.” The show will run until October 15 and will proudly donate 10% from the proceeds of art sales to The Trevor Project. See donhershman.com.

In keeping with the tradition of this beloved annual event, the art forms of ballet and fashion will unite Wes Gordon with Carolina Herrera to provide new costume designs for “Who Cares?” Notable attendees expected to attend include Philanthropist Lizzie Asher. AMEŌNIntentional Beauty Fountain of Youth
BY MARGARET BASTICK LUCE
HEALTH & WELLNESS
AMEŌN goes beyond a skincare line and business that delivers services that produce a healthy glow. AMEŌN’s Founder Alina Mehrle created the business following a breast cancer diagnosis and the ensuing journey to remission. She shares, “I firmly believe that creating great skincare products requires striking the proper balance between nature and the achievements of modern science.”
“Sometimes fate leads you down unknown paths to your life’s mission. My path to the world of skincare and wellness was not an easy one. As a creative person, design and visual art are my passion and have always been a big part of my life. I’m blessed and grateful to be a founding partner of the coolest interior design studio in New York: Asthetique. I had my future as a designer mapped out,” says Alina.
On nearly a daily basis, I am struck by how many people are going through experiences that range from illness, and career changes, to starting a new business and designing their life from those experiences. It is very easy to be captivated by what others accomplish and forget what ripple effect each of us has in everyday life. Whether we create out of necessity, tragedy, or by choice, the common bond I felt in my short time with Alina was that we were capable. Making challenging decisions and navigating rough waters makes us stronger.
The typical New York moment, finding myself low on a charge as I arrived from The Hamptons, I was delighted that someone was there to help. Making my way inside Equinox Rockefeller Center where the AMEŌN suite is nestled, I quickly noted how relaxed I felt even before my scheduled treatment. Taking the lead from my friend Susan Shin, I scheduled an appointment with AMEŌN’s Shay Flynn. I was invited in for my Microcurrent Chill & Sculpt Facial and noticed the peaceful ambiance created by Shay, which immediately had me drifting into a deep rest.
Realizing how a “vacation” can be hard on us and seeing how it shows on my face, the timing of my appointment, and the intentional combination of tools used in the Microcurrent Chill & Sculpt Facial left me with a refreshed look. Microcurrent stimulates the skin to make its own fillers and the small pulses simultaneously exercise the muscles of the face, which tighten and help lift everything back into place; it freezes time. Using tools that include microcurrent, LED therapy, and ultrasonic extractions coupled with formulations like their Baby Buddha Calming Serum and Holy Cream help the skin recover from the impact of what we ingest and are exposed to in everyday life. When I looked in the mirror, I was struck by how noticeably different I appeared. Within an hour, the blend of this incredible treatment and a fantastic nap left me recognizing its lasting benefits and candidly, how much I needed it. The microcurrent was a disruptor to my system and my thoughts. And with Shay’s magical hand and voice, they transported me into another realm.
As I made my way to the entry following my facial, a lovely woman approached. Standing before me was the ethereal owner, Alina Mehrle. A brief time after the meeting, we found ourselves deep in conversation. It didn’t take long to learn what prompted her to create the business. She shared, “At the age of 30, a breast cancer diagnosis changed my life.” Breast cancer, and chemo have a way of breaking you down yet present an incredible opportunity to rebuild, recreate and thrive. Those words have stuck with me.
She continued to move me and said, “I still ask ‘Why me?’ sometimes, but rather than let self-pity define my life I chose happiness. For me, that meant creating something magical to share with the world.” She discovered what she would create, and like Alina, I invite you to ask what you will create from your life experiences.

The Holocaust: What Hate Can Do
A major new exhibition at the Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust opens today. “The Holocaust: What Hate Can Do” offers an expansive and timely presentation of Holocaust history told through personal stories, objects, photos and fi lm—many on view for the fi rst time.
The 12,000-square-foot exhibition features over 750 original objects and survivor testimonies from the Museum’s collection. Together, these objects tell a global story through a local lens, rooted in objects donated by survivors and their families, many of whom settled in New York and nearby places.
In keeping with the Museum’s mission to educate people of all ages and backgrounds on the broad tapestry of Jewish life before, during and after the Holocaust, the exhibition features countless beginnings, middles, and too many endings that make up the stories of “The Holocaust: What Hate Can Do.”

Each room, and each object, contains generations of experiences and information about who Jews are, what sustains Jewish communities, and what life was like during the period of European modernization, World War I and the political and social movements that brought about the rise of the Nazi Party. Within the Holocaust experiences of legalized racism and fascism, pogroms, ghettos, mass murder and concentration camps are instances of personal and global decision-making, escape, resistance and resilience, and ultimately liberation and new beginnings.
The audio tour guide accompanying the exhibition, available for download through the free Bloomberg Connects app, features narration from actress Julianna Margulies, winner of eight Screen Actors Guild Awards, three Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe, and Eleanor Reissa, the Tony-nominated director, Broadway and television actress, prize-winning playwright, author of the memoir “The Letters Project: A Daughter’s Journey,” and former artistic director of the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene. Anthony Mordechai Tzvi Russell, acclaimed vocalist and Yiddishist, and actress Lauren Lebowitz are also featured on the audio guide, for which Paul Salmons Associates provided creative development (Paul Salmons, tour concept and historical interpretation; Leah Kharibian, scriptwriter).
“The title of our new exhibition speaks to our institution’s very reason for being,” says Museum President & CEO Jack Kliger. “Antisemitism and fascism are again on the rise throughout the world. Right here in New York, we have witnessed not only a surge in antisemitism but an uptick in violence and harassment targeting many marginalized groups. The time to speak out and act is upon us, and it is urgent. We hope ‘The Holocaust: What Hate Can Do’ will educate and inspire our visitors and honor those who perished in the Holocaust, whose memories are a blessing.”
“It is a particular point of pride for our institution that this exhibition gives new life to the Museum’s collection. The hundreds of artifacts, many of them donated by survivors, that visitors will experience were all donated to our institution with extraordinary trust and vision, and we are grateful. Each offers up its own story, and together these artifacts present an irrefutable record of history,” says the Museum’s Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Bruce Ratner.
“The Holocaust: What Hate Can Do” is the Museum’s fi rst exhibition to open in its core galleries since its award-winning and widely acclaimed exhibition “Auschwitz. Not Long ago. Not far away.” concluded last spring.
The new exhibition was curated by a team of esteemed Holocaust scholars, historians and museum curators that included Professor Judith Tydor Baumel-Schwartz, Scott Miller, Ilona Moradof and Rebecca Frank, and consulting curators Professor Michael Berenbaum and Paul Salmons.

ADVERTORIAL
What exactly are peptides?
Peptides are short fragments of proteins. Most of the naturally occurring proteins in skin, and this includes the lips, are collagen proteins, which help provide fi rmness and structure. But over time, these collagen proteins break down, leading to signs of aging. That’s why a topical treatment with collagen-supporting peptides like my new Instant FIRMx® Lip Filler is so fabulous. It’s perfect for anyone who wants to help their lips appear fuller and smoother by improving the look of lip plumpness and lip lines.
Why are peptide lip treatments so hot right now?
Women have always been obsessed with having fuller lips. While this is nothing new, the way they’re going after a plumper pout is. Women are trading in invasive lip fi llers for more subtle alternatives with no downtime like topical lip treatments that offer instant, natural-looking results.
Why is lip care so important in your daily skin care routine?
The delicate skin on your lips gets thinner over time, making volume loss and emerging lip lines more noticeable. It’s like the lines and loss of fi rmness you see on your face with each passing year. My Instant FIRMx® Lip Filler is a hydrating lip treatment that is clinically proven to help fi ll out, plump and smooth the look of lips instantly and over time.
What makes Instant FIRMx® Lip Filler unique?
My Instant FIRMx® Lip Filler focuses on both lip volume and lip lines. Not only did I formulate it with 1% Maxi-Lip™, a cutting-edge peptide complex that helps to enhance the look of lip volume with continued use, but I also included 2% LineFill™, an amazing clinically advanced complex derived from sesame seeds that immediately increases the look of fullness, helping to plump and smooth the look of lip lines for a temporary effect.
