Nursery

As we come to the end of an exciting and wonderful year in Nursery, we want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible growth and achievements of our youngest learners at Dusit. It has been a joyous journey filled with laughter, exploration, and endless discoveries. Our young learners have blossomed both academically and emotionally, and we couldn't be prouder of their accomplishments.

Throughout the year, the children have developed their independence and confidence as they have explored different activities, resources and themes where we have followed the children’s interests and supported them in accessing new, developmentally appropriate challenges. From building towers with blocks to finger painting masterpieces and growing our own plants, our little explorers have embraced their creativity. They have begun to count, identify shapes and colours, developed their independence in self care and started to develop special friendships with their classmates! It has been a privilege to witness their curiosity and enthusiasm as they soaked up knowledge like sponges.

Nursery

As we bid farewell to this year, we eagerly look forward to the adventures that lie ahead. We have no doubt that our Nursery learners will continue to shine and make us proud in their future endeavours. Thank you for entrusting us with the care and education of your little ones. Wishing you all a joyful and relaxing summer break, filled with beautiful memories and cherished moments. With warmest regards, The Nursery Team

Kindergarten

Wow! We are at the end of the school year and what an amazing year we have had in KG! This month has been no different, we managed to fit in, not one, but two school trips. Each class went to visit a cafe as part of our ‘people who help us’ theme. Mimi’s Mum kindly provided drinks and snacks for everyone at the cafe and we enjoyed eating our snack in a different setting. Then we went on a whole year group trip to the Children’s Discovery Museum. Not only did we get to ride in the big buses (very exciting) but we also spent all day out of school. We had lots of fun digging for dinosaur fossils, building lego cities, watching a 4D cinema show about looking after the planet and playing in Rainbow Town.

Kindergarten

We have also finished our school year with a last celebration of learning. All of the children and some of the parents dressed up to show their dream job. The children were very excited to share their costumes in our KG fashion show. We also made some snacks which we shared in our final picnic together with our parents.

A fabulous end to a fabulous year KG!

Reception
For our final school trip this school year, Reception switched things up from our usual park visit and went to the Nielson Hays Library. And what a wonderful morning we had spent at the library! Teachers and library staff alike were very impressed by how incredibly well behaved and responsible our students were during the school trip. Reception friends were very curious and enjoyed making observations about the library and asked interesting questions. We enjoyed snack, a story, a tour and a scavenger hunt before returning to school. During the tour we saw some old features in the library building such as special air vents to keep humidity out of the books, and a secret “spooky” stairwell that gives access to the windows. We also enjoyed noting the differences in the architecture compared to newer buildings such as the condos and houses that we live in.

Reception
The opportunity to visit such a beautiful library and explore literacy in a different setting was a great way to continue to foster a love of reading! Well done to Reception!

Year 1
As we approach the end of the school year, we have had such a busy but fun-filled few weeks with the children. We had our annual Swimming Gala and Sports Day last month, and it was so wonderful to see all of the children get involved- showing determination to succeed and supporting one another to do their best. We started this month with the Science Fair. We had so many children taking part in the science fair, showing us their knowledge and passion, and inspiring others to learn more about science and famous scientists.

In English we have been learning the story of ‘The Tiny Seed’ by Eric Carle. The children used a story map to retell the story and then innovated it to create their own journey stories. We had so many unique ideas such as ‘The Tiny tadpole, ‘The Tiny hedgehog and ‘The Tiny Spider’. It is so wonderful to see the quality of writing the children have been producing.

Year 1
In Maths we have been looking at Place Value to 100. We have covered counting forwards and backwards to 100 and partitioning numbers. This was a practical activity and the children practised partitioning numbers with different resources. We have also been comparing numbers, looking at how many tens and ones a number has and using the language greater than, less than and equal to. Lastly, we have ordered numbers and have been doing this practically with number cards.

It has been lovely to finish the year with so many exciting activities and opportunities to work together as a team. We are so proud to see how far the children have all come and how much they all care for and support one another.

Year 2
With this year seeming to race to the finish, the Year 2 bear classes have continued to work extremely hard. We started this month with the fantastic Science Fair where some children from both classes set up their own stalls with scientific investigations. They all did exceptionally well demonstrating with confidence. We have been doing a lot of science the past few weeks. We have planted seeds, investigated heat absorption and researched facts about planets in our solar system. They are becoming experts in all the different scientific skills we use and are constantly asking the right investigative questions.

Year 2
It has been a year of discovery and growth for Year 2 and they are raring to go for further growth in Year 3.

Year 3
The end of another school year has quickly crept up on us and it’s almost time to say goodbye. June has been a month of scientific enquiry, investigations and celebrations. Science Week, as always, was one of the many highlights of the year. Some children presented their own projects at the Science Fair while the rest of us could explore the 92 stalls set up. There were lavish liquids, exciting electronics, fantastic forces and many other amazing scientific investigations on display.

Year 3
In class, we celebrated Science Week by conducting our own investigations. We used torches to test different materials to see which were the most reflective. We discovered that light travels in straight lines and materials that are flat, smooth and shiny are generally the best reflectors. Using this knowledge, we then created mirror mazes where light reflected from one mirror to another to shine on a hidden object. We had great fun designing complicated mazes to challenge our friends.

To finish Science Week, we dressed up as different scientists and watched Mr. Luke, from S107, showcase some electrifying electricity experiments. Did you know that the human body is a conductor? Electric currents can pass through humans! Dangerous stuff but fortunately we are science experts after another super Science Week!

Year 4

As Term 3 comes to a close, let's reflect on the remarkable progress our Year 4 classes have made this academic year. In mathematics, students delved into angles, symmetry, and coordinates, showcasing remarkable growth in understanding and application of these concepts. Their dedication and effort have been commendable. English class took us on an unforgettable journey with "Edward Tulane." Engaging discussions and reflections revealed their blossoming ability to analyse and articulate thoughts, leaving us incredibly proud. In topic class, their creativity and problem-solving skills shone while designing dream schools. Detailed maps showcased exceptional mapping skills, inspiring us all.

Year 4
Science Week and the science fair stretched their knowledge and showcased a passion for discovery and innovation.

The Sports Awards ceremony celebrated dedication, teamwork, and perseverance in their sporting achievements.
"Aladdin Trouble" brought the Year 4 students' determination and teamwork to the forefront, captivating the audience with their fantastic play.
To our Year 4 students, we are grateful to have been part of your journey. You exemplified Dusit's core values and showcased remarkable growth. We have full confidence in your future success. Best wishes in all your endeavors!
Year 5

This month we have conducted science experiments on separation techniques and we explored different ways to extract materials from mixtures. We had a lot of fun discussing which techniques were most efficient and why and how this can be applied to the real world for instance in terms of separating metal from everyday rubbish.

Year 5

We have also started and finished several units of maths including shape and position and direction. We are now moving onto our second decimals unit which we are excited to get stuck into! In English we have been writing our own adventure stories and have been focusing on how to create suspense, add in more details and understand our character motives more. We have been looking at how our characters would speak and utilised our Year 5 language features to our best abilities.

Year 5

We also began our music work in ICT - we have been looking at what a chord is and how this can help enhance the sounds we make. We are going to be delving more into how music is made and how we can make our own style! We are so proud of our sporting achievements this month also - from TISAC tournaments to going to 107 for a day of teamwork. We swam in the swimming gala and had a sports day. We never stop in Year 5! As we edge towards Year 6 we are excited for the year ahead whilst also looking back on our year so far, so proud of the work we have done.

Year 6

It’s been a wonderful end to the academic year for the Year 6 Eagles. Our standout event was Science Week when we all became palaeontologists and excavated some ancient animal fossils. We researched what they might be and applied our knowledge of evolution and adaptation to figure out what happened to them. We connected this to our writing where we wrote ‘Just So’ stories based on the Rudyard Kipling tales. We have also been busy working on our UN Sustainable Development Goal projects where we have each picked a local or global issue that we feel passionate about and created a hands-on project to show what can be done about it. We can’t wait to share our learning with you!
