...continued from front page. ...continued from front page. from front page. from front page. My run over Goat Pass went okay, unfortunately, running after Covid is the one thing I have struggled with the most, and I cramped a lot through thenumerousrivercrossings.

Callum CallumCallum Callum, Jesse Jesse Jesse Jesse and Richard Richard Richard Richard ran past me on this stage, I wasn’t as fast as I’d hoped for, but regardless it was still an okay run, allthingsconsidered.

On Day 2, I was feeling pretty well recovered and prepared to have a great paddle. I managed to lead the race to the 25km mark (the Gorge entrance), which was a pretty cool experience beingthefirst of900boatsdown the river. Four team paddlers passed me in the Gorge, but I managed to hold o all the individual athletes and arrive at the bridge as the first individual athlete, whichwasadreamcome true.

Onto the last 70km cycle stage, I held about a 2 minute lead over the other individual competitors (Callum and Jesse) before getting caught by their bunch after 15km. It would’ve suited me more if this stage was a nondrafting time trial like it is for the longest day. All things considered, with a time of 12hr 28 minutes I’m very proud and content with my finish in third place. It was great to be in the mix and to be a dictator of how theraceplayedout.”
