The Mask, is made from a mineral-rich, pure green clay that was formed over three million years ago, beneath a glacial lake, in the pristine South Island (located in the Southern Alps and processed in Coalgate). This unique deposit was formed through the combination of volcanic ash from Banks Peninsula being deposited into a freshwater glacial lake at the foothillsoftheSouthernAlps. The overall clay resource consists of several million tonnes and averages about sixty metres deep. Other clay deposits around the world are typically between 1m to 3m thick, with the top third usually contaminated with sand, which makes it inconsistent and difficulttoensurepurity.
