STEAK COOK-OFF ASSN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Locals, Chris McLaren Chris McLaren Chris McLaren and his son Nic NicNic Nic have won the right to compete in the 2023 Steak Cook-o Association World Championship in Texas on March 13th. The pair have been competing in the SCA-RUN Barbeque competitions around New Zealand. These events have two categories, the main event (Steak Cook-o ) and an ancillary event (these can be drinks, anything with a certain item for example sausage meat, burgers, tacos and the list goes on). Both categories have golden tickets available for the winners of theseevents.

“I won both category golden tickets last year. I placed second in the ancillary with a drink that contained Bacardi. The person who won already had a ticket, so it rolled down to me,” commentedChris.

“I didn’t actually get my steak golden ticket from winning a competition. My name was read out during a global livestream event in Texas at New Year.

They announced the top ten competitors from the ten competing regions, and I was very surprised when I heard my name sitting in third spot for the New Zealand section, and they announced I had a ticket to competeinthesteakcategory.

“Getting an invite to the world championships is a huge honour and an opportunity you can’t miss,”Chrisadded.

Nic has only been competing for a very short time, winning his golden ticket at BBQ’s Direct in November last year, in the ancillary category. Once both Chris and Nic had golden tickets, it wasn’t a hard decision to decide to go. It will be a battle between the pair as both are there to beat each other and takeontheworldsbest. This father/son duo have been busy fundraising to raise approximately $3,500 each to gettothecompetition.
