With the success of Menopause, The Musical last year, we learned that a summer audience does exist in South Florida. In order for the Maltz to present fun summer entertainment at an affordable price we have partnered with other producing groups to present three new musicals: The Kid from Brooklyn, Nunsensations: The Nunsense Vegas Revue and the world premiere presentation of Food Fight!
The Kid from Brooklyn August 3 – September 9
Produced by Loewy/Leone Productions, this new musical based on the life of Danny Kaye is an intimate portrayal of his career and his relationships on and off the stage. The musical follows the rise of Danny Kaye from an undisciplined improvisational comic to his success under the guidance of Sylvia Fine; mentor, wife and manager, as well as composer of his most famous songs.
A World Premiere Comedy Food Fight! by Mane Stage Productions
October 11 – 28
Food Fight! is a musical revue that pays homage to and pokes fun at the boxing match between food and the human body, and the pleasures and neuroses that are linked to it: the battle of the bulge, diets, exercise, plastic surgery, cooking show gurus and more. Some of the memorable songs include: “I Went to the Buffet Line (I Heard it Through The Grapevine)”, “I’m Fat and I’m Okay (Don’t Rain on My Parade)”, “Botox Queen (Dancing Queen)”, “Look at Me, I’m Rachel Ray (Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee)”. Showtimes are Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 2 pm; Thursday and Friday at 7:30 pm and Saturday at 8 pm.
Tickets are $32 - $36.
In addition to the role of Kaye, a cast of three move in and out of characters that were significant in Kaye’s personal and professional life; including renowned entertainers Eve Arden, Sylvia Fine, and Gertrude Lawrence. Favorite songs of the period are used to recreate the highlights of Kaye’s career from stage to film to television. Backed by a three piece ensemble, musical highlights include “Tchaikovsky,” “By Jingo,” Minnie the Moocher” and many more. Showtimes are Friday at 7:30 pm; Saturday at 2 and 8 pm; Sunday at 2 pm and Wednesday at 2 pm. Tickets are $30 for matinee and $35 for all evening performances.
Nunsensations: The Nunsense Vegas Revue
September 26 – October 7
Produced by Danny Goggin and sponsored by the Palm Beach Princess and Palm Beach Gardens Marriott. A parishioner donates $10,000 to the sisters’ school if they will perform in a club in Las Vegas. What follows is the most featherfilled, sequin-studded, fan dancing new Nunsense show ever! You’ll meet Sin-City Sue, find out who’s Black and White with Her Money on Red, and try to win a new car with the Holy Rollers Giant Slot Machine. “It’s a whole lot of funny and a little bit naughty, but there ain’t nothin’ dirty goin’ on!” Showtimes are Wednesday at 7:30 pm; Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 pm; Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at 2 pm. Tickets are $28 for all performances.
TMatching Gift Campaign Tops Million Dollar Mark Matching Gift Campaign Tops Million Dollar Mark
he Matching Gift Campaign that began last summer officially ended on March 31, 2007. Thanks to the overwhelming response from the community it was exceedingly successful! Congratulations community, you did it!
In the hope of inspiring other theatre patrons to give in a meaningful way, an anonymous donor pledged $500,000 to be matched dollar for dollar. An astounding $630,000 was donated to the matching campaign. Our anonymous donor was inspired by the community’s outpouring and matched all of it for a grand total of $1,260,000
During this time period, the first nine months of the theatre’s fiscal year, an additional million dollars was raised from contributions by the theatre’s board members and a grant from the Palm Beach Cultural Council, making the grand total $2.3 million.
“This outpouring confirms that this community cares about the Maltz Jupiter Theatre,” said Milton Maltz, Chairman of the Board. “I am so thankful that everyone has supported us to this extent.”
“During this fundraising campaign many people gave whatever they could. Donations came in ranging from $20 - $25,000. We are so grateful to have such a supportive group of theatre-goers. Everyone has inspired us to continue to work even harder to bring great theatre to our community,” said Tricia Trimble, Director of Development.
“These exceptional donations have allowed us to pay off our operating debt to support our educational outreach programs and still keep ticket prices affordable so that everyone in our community can enjoy live theatre,” continued Trimble. “As a nonprofit, we generally need 50% of our annual budget to come from donations.”
If you would like to help the theatre grow even stronger, you can continue to give in many ways.
To sponsor an event or performance, donate to any of the theatre’s programs, set-up and annual gift, transfer stocks or make a multi-year pledge contact Tricia Trimble, Director of Development at 561-743-2666, ext. 122.
Children’s Theatre Institute Undergoing Major Renovation
The Maltz Jupiter Theatre expansion is underway, affording students in our community the best possible instruction. The Institute will be elevated to a year-round conservatory offering numerous classes. The space for the Institute is also expanding. The architectural plans for the renovation of existing storage space will create a self-contained school that will be open even while we have a production in the auditorium. The school will have a separate entrance, individual dance, acting and voice studios, a student lounge with new student bathrooms, storage and office space.
Thanks to our generous donors, we have already raised $176,000 of the $312,000 needed for the construction and programming. Additionally, Peggy and Rick Katz have pledged a $50,000 matching grant that will remain in place until the start of the fall classes.
“We have so many talented students in the Institute and now, thanks to the expansion, we can provide them with a full curriculum of theatre training,” said Judy Gelman, Director of Education. “My heartfelt thanks go out to the donors and guild members for making this dream a reality.”
A grand opening celebration is scheduled for Monday, September 17. So mark your calendars now for what is sure to be a ground-breaking moment in the histor y of the theatre.

Volunteers Volunteers
Volunteer Joan Kenny is our highlighted volunteer. Kenny has been a part of the theatre family since before the doors opened. “I thoroughly enjoy being with all of the people at the theatre,” said Kenny.
Kenny volunteers part time in the administrative offices helping answer phones, doing mailings and whatever tasks that are asked of her. Kenny is originally from New Jersey and worked for years at Princeton University in the development office. She retired 10 years ago to Jupiter, is widowed and enjoys spending time with her 14 grandchildren and six children. When asked what is the best part of being involved with the theatre – she answered, “Besides the people, the musicals, I love them all and have seen every one!”

GUILD GUILD
The theatre recently recognized all of the hundreds of dedicated volunteers at an “Ice Cream” social and private concert by the Bob Hous Orchestra.
The Maltz Jupiter Theatre Guild recently donated $25,000 to the Children’s Theatre Institute. Guild president Dan DiRenzo and Guild board members presented the check to to Andrew Kato, Artistic Director and Judy Gelman, Director of Education.
The primary mission of the Guild is to raise money for youth and young adults to participate in the Children’s Theatre Institute’s programs at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre. The $25,000 was raised through such events as the annual fashion show, annual garage sale, Palm Beach Idol and Kentucky Derby Gala.
“The tireless work of the Guild continues to impress all of us at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre. Without their continued support, the growth of the Institute would not be possible, “said Kato.
