Alpenglühen: Wenn sich Licht und Fels abends begegnen, entsteht ein beeindruckendes Farbschauspiel in der Natur. Einen besonders melodischen Begriff für das Alpenglühen verwenden die Ladiner in Südtirol. Sie nennen es Enrosadira. Kein Wunder, denn in der Region mit ihren hohen Felswänden aus hellem Gestein präsentiert sich das Lichtspiel sehr intensiv. Nicht nur die Schönheit dieses Spektakels hat uns zur Enrosadira-Kollektion inspiriert, auch die innere Stimmung, die damit einhergeht. Enrosadira hinterlässt die Beobachter ruhig und gelassen. Zuversicht breitet sich aus – ein kraftvolles Gefühl. Die Dolomiten mit ihren Felsgiganten wie Piz Boè und Langkofel bieten natürlich die perfekte Bühne für das Enrosadira. Es müssen aber gar nicht immer die großen Namen und Abenteuer sein: eine Tour auf den Hausberg im weichen Abendlicht, eine Runde mit dem Rennrad, während die Sonne am Horizont untergeht, die Berghütte, wo nach einem regnerischen Tag die letzten Sonnenstrahlen durch den Nebel kommen – auch das können magische Momente sein, die uns zuversichtlich stimmen.
Wir bei Maloja glauben, dass Menschen in der Natur die Zuversicht finden, um die Herausforderungen unserer Zeit zu meistern. Wir sind zuversichtlich, dass die Zeit des Umbruchs, in der wir uns befinden, viel Neues entstehen lässt. Denn auch das ist Enrosadira: eine Übergangszeit zwischen Licht und Schatten. Wir müssen beides akzeptieren, das Helle und das Dunkle. Darum ist Zuversicht oft hilfreicher als purer Optimismus: Wer optimistisch ist, geht davon aus, dass die äußeren Umstände sich immer zum Besten wenden. Wer zuversichtlich ist, entwickelt eine innere Freiheit, unabhängig von den äußeren Umständen. Enrosadira ist für uns ein zuversichtlicher Blick in die Zukunft, in all ihren Farbschattierungen. Zuversicht kommt nicht zuletzt aus der Überzeugung, dass das eigene Tun einen Wert hat. Mit der Enrosadira-Kollektion haben wir unsere ökologischen Ansätze weiter vertieft, sind neue Wege bei der Materialwahl und -kombination gegangen und konnten unverwechselbare Designs umsetzen.

At Maloja, we want to give people the best-possible clothing for any weather. At the same time, we also want to preserve the environment. Therefore, we’ve developed the shell series called cembra® including innovative membranes. We like the idea of comparing the membrane to tree bark. The membrane protects people, just like the bark of a tree protects the tree against the weather. One particularly resilient tree is the Swiss pine. It’s robust and hardy in the cold, and it can live to over 1,000 years old. The Latin name for the Swiss pine is Pinus cembra. This is where the name of our shell series cembra® comes from.
Bei Maloja möchten wir Menschen für jedes Wetter optimal ausstatten und gleichzeitig die Umwelt schonen. Dafür haben wir die ShellSerie cembra ® mit innovativen Membranen entwickelt. Uns gefiel der Vergleich der Membran mit einer Baumrinde: Wie die Rinde den Baum vor dem Wetter schützt, schützt auch die Membran den Menschen. Ein besonders widerstandsfähiger Baum ist die Zirbelkiefer. Sie ist robust, frosthart und kann bis zu 1.000 Jahre alt werden. Der lateinische Name der Zirbelkiefer ist Pinus cembra. Daraus leitet sich der Name cembra ® für unsere Shell-Serie ab.

The main material of the cembra® series is recycled polyester, all products are treated with environmentally friendly, PFC-free water-repellent finish. Three out of four materials in the series can also be completely recycled. Uncompromising, long-lasting protection in any weather was our goal when developing cembra®. This is the basis of the four cembra® technologies: RESIST, LIGHT, SHELTER, and BREATHE. Each technology is designed for high performance in its particular field of use.

here are days in early spring when the mornings are still quite cold and the
snow crackles under your cross country skis. Later in the day the air warms up. And while riding a lap on your mountain bike in the afternoon on the beautiful, dry south-
ern trail, you can hardly believe it was still so cold in the morning during those first cross-country runs. The fact you were even in the snow at all that morning seems incredibly far away.

Our founder Peter talked about one of these perfect days with Maloja designer Franzi during lunch, following a sunny spring weekend. While chatting, it turned out that they both spent the entire day in the same outfit, meaning they didn’t change their clothes between cross-country skiing in the morning and cycling in the afternoon. The idea of developing a product line that functions perfectly for both sports was born: Glide & Ride.

Unser Gründer Peter unterhielt sich genau über so einen Tag mit Maloja-Designerin Franzi beim Mittagessen nach einem sonnigen Frühlingswochenende. ometimes, it’s also those days when we feel particularly alive and grateful – even
though the path to the top is more difficult than usual, and we might even decide to turn back before the peak based on our gut feeling. Then the sun shines for a moment. We catch it on the three most beautiful turns of the entire descent, before we are back on the hard crust. The mountain probably wants to remind us every so often that we’ve chosen a wild playground that deserves to be treated with respect.
Manchmal sind es auch die Tage, an denen wir uns besonders lebendig und dankbar fühlen. Obwohl der Weg nach oben beschwerlicher ist als sonst und wir vielleicht schon vor dem Gipfel beschließen umzukehren, wegen des Bauchgefühls. Und dann gibt es dieses eine Sonnenfenster, das wir bei den drei schönsten Schwüngen der gesamten Abfahrt erwischen, bevor der Harschdeckel wieder zumacht. Wahrscheinlich will uns der Berg von Zeit zu Zeit daran erinnern, dass wir uns einen wilden Spielplatz ausgesucht haben, der es verdient, mit Respekt behandelt zu werden.

t’s the dream of any ski tourer: a day in the powder snow.
A laidback ascent and a break here and there to enjoy the view simply lets you unwind. Once we reach the top, we notice the little butterflies in our stomachs. The hillside lies untouched before us, and each of us thinks about the line we want to go down. We dive in and enjoy the powder. Little jumps, lengthy turns, beaming faces. Being able to share these moments with friends is true happiness.
Es ist der Traum eines jeden Skitourengehers: Der Tag im Pulverschnee. Ein gemütlicher Aufstieg, eine Pause hier und da, um das Panorama zu genießen, einfach die Seele baumeln lassen. Bad Gastein is said to have a healing and energizing effect. This is mostly down to its water, which contains radon. For decades, people have travelled to the distant head of the valley to experience it. We were also there to get re-energized one autumn weekend. However, we picked up the energy from the charm of the unique location, the steep mountainsides surrounding it, and great times with friends.

Auch wir waren dort, um uns an einem herbstlichen Wochenende mit neuer Energie zu versorgen. Today's destination is Monte Grappa. It’s located in the southern foothills of the Dolomites – the place where the line between the Alps and the Mediterranean naturally becomes blurred. A lot of history is associated with this sometimes mystical mountain, which is, among other things, a stage of the Giro d'Italia. Thanks to its location, Monte Grappa is still a worthwhile destination for cyclists in late autumn. Our group today is used to sitting on the saddle, even in adverse conditions: Filippo, Nadine, Elena and Felix are active and former cycling pros.

SILENCE IMPOSANTES SCHWEIGEN
The first snow greets us from the nearby three-thousand-meter peaks and the air is cold and crisp. We experience this special time of year on our bike & hike tour before the winter slowly but surely takes over nature. On this day, we continue to venture in the region of the impressive God da Tamangur. Hidden behind this name is the highest continuous Swiss pine forest in Europe. It’s located in Lower Engadine, and the area today is showing its tranquil side – almost as if it’s settling down for the winter.
Der erste Schnee grüßt von den nahen Dreitausendern, die Luft ist kalt und frisch. Auf unserer Bike & Hike-Tour erleben wir diese besondere Jahreszeit, bevor der Winter langsam, aber bestimmt die Oberhand über die Natur gewinnt. Immer wieder sind wir an diesem Tag im Bereich des beeindruckenden God da Tamangur unterwegs. Hinter dem Namen verbirgt sich der höchstgelegene, zusammenhängende Arven- bzw. Zirbelkieferwald Europas. Er liegt im Unterengadin und die Gegend präsentiert sich heute von ihrer stillen Seite. Ganz so, als würde sie sich fast meditativ auf den Winter einstimmen.

e enjoy this tranquillity on our bikes, until the forest road leads to a small trail
and we switch from biking to hiking. God da Tamangur is Romansh for “the Tamangur Forest”. When we decide to take a break in the sunshine on the steep mountain meadow and look down at the tranquil forest with a warming cup of tea, that’s exactly how we feel: we dive deep into nature. Our shadows growing longer let us know that it’s time to set off back to the valley. A tranquil call of nature. And we’re happy to answer it. A long stretch still lies before us until we will leave the Tamangur Forest.

Wir genießen diese Stimmung auf unseren Bikes, bevor die Forststraße in einen kleinen Pfad mündet und wir in den Geh-Modus wechseln. God da Tamangur ist Rätoromanisch und heißt „der Tamangur Wald“. Auf der steilen Bergwiese legen wir eine Pause in der Sonne ein. Mit einer wärmenden Tasse Tee in der Hand schauen wir hinab auf den stillen Wald und fühlen genau das: Wir sind ganz tief eingetaucht in die Natur. Als unsere Schatten immer länger werden, wissen wir, dass es an der Zeit ist, aufzubrechen Richtung Tal. Eine stille Aufforderung der Natur. Und wir folgen ihr gerne, denn vor uns liegt noch eine längere Strecke, bis wir den Tamangur Wald verlassen haben.

FEUER UND FLAMME
The Firewall was first set out by Alex and Thomas Huber in 2003 and is one of the most challenging alpine climbs in the Alps. Our friend Guido successfully managed to repeat it for the first time 18 years later, together with his colleague Simon. In August 2020, Guido and Simon first hung from the Firewall. “We got fired up straight away for the steep climb, but the first 8b was pretty wet,” remembers Guido. They came back a second time that summer, but both excursions were marked by the cold and wet. Then the first snow arrived, and the door to the Firewall was closed once again.
Die „Firewall“ wurde 2003 von Alex und Thomas Huber erstbegangen und zählt zu den anspruchsvollsten Alpinklettereien im Alpenraum. Unserem Freund Guido ist 18 Jahre später gemeinsam mit seinem Kollegen Simon die erste Wiederbegehung gelungen. Im August 2020 hängen Guido und Simon erstmals in der Firewall. „Wir waren sofort Feuer und Flamme für die steile Kletterei, jedoch war die erste 8b ziemlich nass“, erinnert sich Guido. Noch zweimal kamen sie in diesem Sommer zurück, aber beide Ausflüge waren geprägt von Kälte und Nässe. Dann kam der frühe Schnee und das Fenster zur Firewall war schon wieder geschlossen.

In 2021, the two of them went back to the wall. “Everything went really well this time” Guido says. He pictures the last pitch again in his mind. “I shook a little and thought about how happy I was just then to be able to be there, at that exact spot. I even got past the last unsteady point and climbed up onto my feet. I shouted, Simon shouted, a few tears of happiness rolled down my cheeks. It’s crazy just how satisfying that kind of alpine project is.” The Firewall is an imposing climb and is physically and mentally demanding.

Guido sums up the passion project: “We have huge respect for Alex and Thomas who gifted the climbing world this great route. We had an incredibly amazing day on the wall.” In the end, Guido is left with a feeling of gratitude for this fascinating sport and for being able to share his life’s journey with great friends, take on big challenges together and get through them as a team – and always getting fired up for new projects.

2021 sind die beiden zurück in der Wand. „Diesmal lief alles richtig gut", so Guido und führt sich nochmal die letzte Seillänge vor Augen: „Ich schüttle kurz, denke mir, wie froh ich bin, jetzt genau hier sein zu können, bringe auch noch die letzte wackelige Stelle problemlos hinter mich und klettere zum Stand. Ich schreie, Simon schreit, ein paar Freudentränen rollen über meine Wangen und es ist der Wahnsinn, wie erfüllend so ein alpines Projekt ist.“ Die Firewall ist eine imposante Kletterei, fordert körperlich und geistig extrem.
Guido fasst das Herzensprojekt zusammen: „Unser größter Respekt gilt Alex und Thomas, die diese geniale Route für die Kletterwelt hinterlassen haben. Wir hatten einen unglaublich schönen Tag in der Wand.“ Am Ende bleibt bei Guido das Gefühl der Dankbarkeit – für diesen faszinierenden Sport und dafür, den Lebensweg mit tollen Freunden teilen zu können, sich gemeinsam großen Herausforderungen zu stellen und dann im Team durchzuziehen. Und immer wieder Feuer und Flamme zu sein für neue Projekte.
