LOCAL FLAVOR. GLOBAL IMPACT.

THIS AND SO MUCH MORE MAKE TULANE A UNIQUE PLACE TO STUDY.

We acknowledge and pay tribute to the original inhabitants of this land. The city of New Orleans is a continuation of an indigenous trade hub on the Mississippi River, known for thousands of years as Bulbancha. Native peoples have lived on this land since time immemorial, and the resilient voices of Native Americans remain an inseparable part of our local culture. With gratitude and honor, we acknowledge the indigenous nations that have lived and continue to thrive here.

We understand that attending college in a new country can be a difficult transition for many reasons, which is why we offer a variety of resources to help you from the time you’re admitted to the time you graduate. The Office of International Students and Scholars provides assistance with the visa process, hosts orientations, and runs specialized events for the international student community. The Center for Global Experience supports students through courses designed for international students to help you grow academically and professionally at Tulane. These are just two examples — you’ll encounter many additional student-run organizations, programming, and resources across campus that will support you along the way.

INTERDISCIPLINARY IS MORE THAN A PHILOSOPHY

You will never encounter a workplace with people who have the exact same knowledge, skillset, and experience that you do. That’s why an interdisciplinary education is critical in developing the next generation of the workforce. Whether you’re interested in how psychology influences business, the intersections of philosophy and architecture, or applied mathematics in the social sciences, at Tulane you’re encouraged to pursue interdisciplinary fields of study. You won’t just be prepared to enter the workforce, you will drive innovation and change.

PARSHVA VAKHARIA

Tulane really enabled me to break down rigid academic paths that I anticipated would be necessary for a career in corporate America. I picked classes that I was passionate about, and eventually led me to my goals of attending business school and landing a role in consulting. My interdisciplinary Tulane education included a quantitative subject (Economics, now STEM designated at Tulane), a liberal arts perspective (Environmental Studies), a window into corporate America (Management minor), and a multicultural component (Spanish minor). This robust academic foundation landed me several offers from top business schools across the country. After business school, I was offered a job at Ipsos MMA in an Analytic Consulting role in their New York City office, where I am now.

New Orleans is a unique city with a strong character and a deep tolerance for diversity in race, culture, opinions, and ideas. I have learned to respect people for who they are, and be tolerant of differences in opinion. Coupled with great restaurants, cafes, entertainment, and weather, New Orleans provides arguably one of the best college experiences. While some of my friends complained of using snow tunnels to get to class in the winter up in the Northeast, my professors took us outdoors to the quad for class!

BEAUCOUP* SCHOLARSHIPS

Tulane offers both need-based and merit-based scholarships, most of which are renewable for your four years at Tulane. Scholarship amounts range from $1,000 to those that cover our full tuition or even full cost of attendance.

All applicants are considered for partial merit scholarship by completing the Common Application for admission. To be considered for all scholarships, however, you should complete the following four steps as we may evaluate both your need and merit in our awarding process:

FOUR STEPS FOR SCHOLARSHIP CONSIDERATION

1. Complete the Common Application for admission;

2. Complete the CSS Profile by our financial aid deadlines (international students who are nonU.S.citizens should also complete Tulane’s Declaration & Certification of Finances);

3. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (if you are a U.S. citizen or eligible resident) by our financial aid deadlines;

4. Submit supporting documentation when requested by our Office of Financial Aid.

While we do have a small number of awards that require additional materials, including our Community Service Fellowship, the above materials will provide you with maximum consideration for the financial aid we award at Tulane.

BA MATH & INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS; MINOR IN CHINESE & STRATEGY, LEADERSHIP, AND ANALYTICS

The academic side of Tulane is very rigorous, but it’s a really supportive community. Tulane students raise each other up to the best they can possibly be. My peers were a great support system

One of the main resources on campus is the Office for International Students and Scholars, also known as OISS. They are the place to go to if you have any questions regarding your visa status or anything about life in America. They also run something called the International Student Advisory Board. It’s a place to make sure that international students are included in campus activities and have

opportunities that are unique for international students. One of the things they did was a career workshop here in the United States. The workshop taught the basic fundamentals of what networking is, how to make a good resume, and how to become a competitive applicant. The ISAB also helps put on cultural events like Tulane Language Day. This festival gives students from different cultures and countries the opportunity to represent their country in the best way possible through food vendors or just like a performance or activities.

BS & BA MATHEMATICS, COMPUTER SCIENCE, AND ECONOMICS

While at Tulane, I earned a bachelor’s degree as a triple major in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Economics. I am now pursuing a PhD in Computational and Mathematical Engineering at the Stanford School of Engineering, as a KnightHennessy Scholar. Tulane’s strong emphasis on a multidisciplinary education has made me a competitive candidate for the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program as I want to build a global perspective and cross-cultural communication skills to expand my entrepreneurial capacity and develop moral frameworks to innovate responsibly. The experiences at Tulane helped me understand international developments, social platforms, and AI technologies, ultimately motivating me

to explore the potential role of dialogue agents in assisting brainstorming and helping conflict resolution on social platforms.

Tulane was founded in 1834 as the Medical College of Louisiana in an effort to address the city’s Yellow Fever epidemic. In 1884, merchant Paul Tulane donated over $1 million to endow a university “for the promotion and encouragement of intellectual, moral, and industrial education” as an act of gratitude for the City of New Orleans. The College was renamed as Tulane University of Louisiana in his honor. The university is now comprised of ten schools, with seven on the uptown campus, and three near the original campus in downtown New Orleans. Tulane undergraduates are currently admitted to study across five main schools that comprise Newcomb-Tulane College – Architecture and Built Environment, Business, Liberal Arts, Public Health, and Science & Engineering - and have the opportunity to pursue additional academic programs in our Schools of Professional Advancement and Social Work.
