epuis plusieurs semaines, l’association Maskénada – regroupant un ensemble de professionnels du spectacle vivant des plus prolifiques et créatifs au Luxembourg – propose une rencontre théâtrale singulière. En écho à son sujet (les Tsiganes), la pièce parcourt différents lieux publics de la capitale : l’unique décor, une tente créée par Anouk Schiltz, accompagne la comédienne Irina Fedotova et le violoniste David Bubani qui viennent à la rencontre de leur public déclamer et mettre en musique le poème en vers d’Alexandre Pouchkine. La communauté tsigane a été célébrée dans la littérature russe du 19e siècle, ce peuple fascinait alors par ses talents artistiques, par ses libertés d’expression et de mode de vie où toutes les émotions de l’existence prenaient une forme artistique singulière d’une exceptionnelle fraîcheur et d’une rare virtuosité. Sur une trame poétique fondée sur une histoire d’amour tragique entre un jeune homme russe épris de liberté et une jeune femme tsigane vivant dans une famille nomade, le texte d’Alexandre Pouchkine est un magnifique hommage littéraire au peuple du voyage qui manifeste avec exaltation, en danse et en musique, la vie, ses mystères, ses peines et ses joies. La sonorité du poème est un véritable plaisir de la langue, à l’image de la musique tsigane sachant toucher le cœur des hommes par son extrême sensibilité. Le spectacle de Maskénada, sous la direction artistique de Claude Mangen, réanime les charmes des Tsiganes, une communauté qui aujourd’hui souffre du rejet et de la stigmatisation par nos sociétés, alors qu’autrefois elle exerçait fascination et respect. Les Tsiganes s’affranchit des considérations politiques et sociales pour insuffler avec art la notion de liberté, une valeur splendide et fragile dangereusement mise à mal de nos jours. Q

or the past few weeks, the Maskénada asso ciation – one of the most prolific and cre ative group of live performance professionals in Luxembourg – has been showcasing a rather unique theatrical project. Echoing its subject-matter (gypsies), the play was staged in several public spaces in Luxembourg-City: the unique set, a tent created by Anouk Schiltz, provides a fitting backing for the actress Irina Fedotova and the violinist David Bubani, who set out to meet the audience, disclaiming the poem by Alexander Pushkin to a musical accompaniment. The gypsy people were celebrated in 19th century Russian literature; at the time, gypsies were considered a fascinating people due to their artistic talent, their love of freedom and their way of life – their very existence being seen as an intensely emotional and refreshing journey of rare virtuosity. Against the background of the poetic narrative, which tells of the tragic love story between a young Russian man full of the love of freedom and a young gypsy woman who lives in a nomadic tribe, the text by Alexander Pushkin is a tremendous literary homage to the Romany people, and the play projects with great exultation, through dance and music, fundamental truths about life, its mysteries, its troubles and its joys. The sonority of the poem is a real pleasure to the ear, just like the unique and fleetingly sensitive gypsy music, which is so apt at playing on the heartstrings of men. The show staged by Maskénada under the artistic direction of Claude Mangen, projects all the charms of the gypsies, a community which nowadays tends to suffer from rejection and stigmatisation by society rather than exerting fascination and respect as it once did. Les Tsiganes transcends political and social considerations to evoke with great sensitivity the notion of freedom, a splendid and fragile value which is being dangerously undermined nowadays. Q
