Our regular feature turns to tenor Ian Bostridge, artist in residence at the Philharmonie who will perform Britten’s Rape of Lucretia in June. The tenor has been the artist in residence at the Philharmonie since last October and concludes his year-long programme in November with two performances of Britten’s Our Hunting Fathers with the OPL. He had no formal training as a singer, but has become well known for his opera and lieder performances. Bostridge is also an academic, having obtained a PhD from Oxford in 1990, on The significance of witchcraft in English public life from 1650 to 1750. He has written on music for several English broadsheets and specialist music magazines and made documentaries for television. Ce grand ténor est l’artiste en résidence de la Philharmonie depuis octobre dernier. Il clôture son année de programmation en novembre accompagné par l’OPL, avec deux représentations d’Our Hunting Fathers, de Britten. Cet artiste n’a suivi aucune formation officielle de chanteur, mais est devenu très célèbre pour ses airs d’opéra et ses lieder. Il est également titulaire d’un doctorat, qu’il a obtenu en 1990 à l’Université d’Oxford, à l’issue d’une thèse portant sur l’importance de la sorcellerie dans la société anglaise entre 1650 et 1750. Il a écrit des articles dans le domaine de la musique pour différents journaux et magazines spécialisés. Enfin, il a participé à des documentaires pour la télévision.
