LEADERSHIP RETREAT On Friday 28 and Saturday 29 October a Leader’s Planning Retreat was held at the Leigh Central Function Centre. This retreat was attended by many of the Elders, Exec, and Staff, as well as the Interns of Mahurangi Presbyterian Church. The team gathered for dinner at the Leigh Eatery on Friday night, before returning to the Function Centre to listen to Pastor Maz Kefali share some thoughts about leading a church that reaches into its community. Following a time of prayer and worship, Maz shared from his experience the significance of learning to ask good questions and being aware of the resources we have at hand. He also shared about reaching out to young families, and the importance of investing in the future that outlives us.

We broke our values down into three categories; Loving Jesus, Loving People, and Loving Presence. Over three sessions based around these categories, the teams talked about a number of possibilities we could pursue. These discussions will be explored further by the Elders over the next month. The weekend was largely heralded as a success with many saying they were feeling pretty excited about the possibilities ahead for 2023 and 2024. A big thank you to Richard Swain and David McLeod for planning this event. We were also very grateful for Alan and Jasmine Macdonald at Leigh Central for their hospitality, and the teams at Leigh Eatery and Leigh Eats for the fantastic meals.

On Saturday following more prayer and worship, the team came together to collaboratively imagine ways that the church could intentionally enhance its values over the next two years.

A WEEK OF PRAYER Prayer week was held on the week of 17 October as Term 4 started. During the week, members from our congregation gathered daily in the church hall to worship and pray for our church, our community and other wider issues. During our prayer week, one of our staff was involved in small mishap where the church van got stuck in the mud when our good Samaritan Bernie McClean thankfully came to the rescue by towing the church van out of the mud using another van... All in all, the prayer week was a valuable time where we all sought the Holy Spirit.

They have all been chosen by teachers. We would like to congratulate them, and at the same time wish them all the best with their new roles. BUILDING UPDATE The latest video footage of the progress can be viewed on our YouTube channel here : (https://youtu.be/Q7rZgm5zqVc) We are hopeful of receiving the Stage 2 Building consent in the next few days. Meanwhile two of the major switchboards have been installed, and all the windows and doors are now in place except for the large main entrance automatic glass door. Continue to pray for speedy and smooth resolutions on any outstanding issues, as well as for the safety of the people working on the building site. Also remember to include in your prayers the provision of sufficient funding to complete the total project.

ST ANDREWS UPDATE A group from our congregation has been meeting to have updates on St. Andrews Matakana. Recent updates are shared: A wedding was held at the Church at Noon on Sunday, 30th October. On recent Sundays, 30 groups came into the church to admire the architecture, to talk about their association with the building, or to sit and pray. For example: • Rebecca Washer (who is completing a master’s degree in Historical architecture came in to talk and gave us interesting contacts regarding the history of St Andrews • 3 different couples came in, forward-planning their weddings in 2024 or remembering their marriage there. • Nora and her daughter from Hawaii called to sit and reflect and talk about their life in NZ. Emma is a beekeeper. • Imelda from Mexico came in to pray. She spoke only Spanish so communication was via cellphone pictures! (until her daughter arrived) • A visitor from Harbin, Nth China, now resident in Auckland was entertaining. He loved being in church. • Bridget, whose daughter was married in St Andrews called in. There is a memorial plaque to her husband on a bench seat on the grounds. Bridget has brought lilies to plant in the church garden.

Church Gardens • We are looking for a “green-fingered” passionate gardener to help keep our church-yard cottage garden looking good. • Apart from the lillies, we have planted petunias and Hollyhocks so far. Alpha • The Alpha group at Leigh, is going well. We are getting to know our new people, Lois, Richard, AhPing, and Moira. We are preparing for our Holy Spirit Saturday on 12th November when all the groups will come together at Leigh. • Barbara Bent advises that the Sharps Road Alpha group is also going well. Park Owners Glyndyr Johnston and I (as Trust reps) had a very useful meeting with incoming Park Owner Brendan Coughlan on Wednesday. We were able to reach an agreement on a 25-car reserved parking area on the Park right of way to ensure we have parking for wedding guests on market days. Blessings All, Neville

Sometimes the visitors arrive en-masse so we need more people to greet them. Would anyone consider coming?
