Full control of build process Compass Homes was established in the Waikato 10 years ago and has been operating in Christchurch for the past five years. The company offers a range of standard predesigned house plans, but also provides a full design and build service for clients wanting to design their own home. General manager, Yolande Mintrom says Compass Homes’ sales consultants meet with each client to discuss their requirements and the process. Once the client is happy with the information, the consultant will arrange for their in-house architectural designers to draw up a preliminary plan, which can usually be completed within a few days.

Focus on client communication
“Once the preliminary plans have been signed off by the client, they are sent for pricing and within a month a contract will be ready for signing,” Yolande says.
Compass Homes runs a construction software programme called Builder Trend, which provides a detailed schedule of works for its builders, subcontractors and clients alike.
“The plans are submitted to the local council for consent and, unless there are any requests for additional information, the consent will be approved. On receipt of the approval notification

New Christchurch showhomes Compass Homes (Canterbury) will soon have more than three showhomes operating in Christchurch and neighbouring districts, reflecting its strong growth within the Canterbury building market. The company currently has a showhome at 7 Broomleigh Drive, Faringdon, Rolleston, which
is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 12pm – 4pm, and by appointment. Yolande says another showhome is being built at Prestons Park in Christchurch, with two others planned for Silverstream and Amberley within the next couple of months.
