The art of a craft CSB Huntsman Boats’ new Huntsman Explorer SD7 fishing boat is already winning awards due to its economical diesel engine, hardtop canopy and spacious, practical cockpit and deck area. Unique new 7m fishing boat The Huntsman Explorer SD7 was launched at the New Zealand Boat Show in Auckland in May, where it won the all-purpose 6-7 metres category.
“The general styling of the boat and the diesel engine make it quite unique. The big plus is the diesel and it out performs the outboard version,” Robinson says.

Sotalia model a big seller CSB Huntsman Boats generally releases a new boat every year. Last year’s model, the Sotalia, has proven extremely popular and is now CSB Huntsman Boats’ biggest seller. The 5.8-metre Sotalia features a large wellappointed cockpit and cabin room. It’s hull design ensures a dry, quiet and smooth ride. “The Sotalia is a good size and you can get a couple of families in there comfortably. It’s built for rough water handling. It’s very specialised with a big internal useable area. It’s also very economical to run.”
An industry leader CSB Huntsman Boats designs and manufactures all of its own craft from its manufacturing facilities in Christchurch. The company was formed in 1992 by Robinson, who has worked hard to grow
it into the highly regarded boat-building business it is today, with dealers located in Christchurch, Timaru, Tauranga and Auckland. It also has a dealer in Sydney and Brisbane and is focused on growing the Australian market. CSB Huntsman Boats are renowned for their smooth quiet ride, lower horsepower requirements compared to other designs, modern appearance and unique practical features. The company is continually improving its existing designs, as well as working to launch new models every year. “We have a very loyal customer base,” Robinson says. “People come to us because of the quality and standard of the boats and their finish, the general performance of the boats and the price. We’re well priced and offer a very good package.”

Beneficial merger with signage company CSB Huntsman Boats has recently merged with Art Fetiche Studios, a relationship that has strengthened both businesses. Art Fetiche has been sharing a premises in Bromley with CSB Huntsman Boats for four years and has been doing decal designs for the company for about 10 years. Geoff Robinson says the merge 18 months ago made a lot of sense. “We share a lot of staff. My staff work for them if they get pushed on a big job, and it allows us to retain our staff in the winter, as the boat industry is very seasonal,” he says.

CSB Huntsman Boats owner Geoff Robinson says a big feature of the Explorer SD7 is its inboard diesel engine, which uses about 16 litres of diesel an hour, making it considerably cheaper to run than an equivalent petrol boat.
