STYLIST. CREATIVE DIRECTOR. MOTHER. MOTIVATOR.
Angela Stone is a woman on a mission to make others feel their most confident, stylish, and empowered selves. As a stylist, creative director, and mother, Angela’s days are filled with beauty, vision, and determination. Her work has earned her respect throughout New Zealand and internationally, and she’s recently completed the transformative 75 HARD challenge, showing that grit and grace can absolutely coexist.
We caught up with Angela to chat about style, strength, and what it means to keep showing up for yourself.
Q: Angela, you’re a stylist, a creative director, and a Mum. How do you manage it all?
Angela: Honestly, it comes down to passion and purpose. When you’re passionate, everything else seems to fall into place, even when it’s busy. I also thrive on structure. Being a mother has taught me the importance of time management and staying grounded, and my creative work gives me joy and purpose.
Q: What does style mean to you?
Angela: Style is your voice without speaking. It’s how you enter a room, how you express who you are. I love working with women to help them align their outer style with their inner confidence. Trends come and go, but personal style, that’s powerful and lasting.
Q: Congratulations on completing 75 HARD! What made you take on that challenge?
Angela: Thank you! It was something I did purely for myself to reset, recharge and really push my mental discipline and strength. The physical benefits were a bonus, but the real transformation happened in my mindset. I proved to myself what I was capable of.
Q: Any advice for others wanting to challenge themselves the way you did?
Angela: Start by understanding your why, it’s the foundation that will keep you going when things get tough. Then, be realistic and kind to yourself. It’s not about perfection; it’s about consistency, mental toughness and self-respect. Surround yourself with people who encourage your growth, and don’t be afraid to say no to what doesn’t serve your energy. Momentum builds quickly when you stay committed, and the pride you’ll feel from following through is unbeatable.
Angela is also a valued contributor to both EYE Magazine and Chinese EYE Magazine, where her curated style pages reflect her impeccable taste and love of connection. “I truly enjoy working with the EYE team. It’s a platform that celebrates individuality, strength, and culture and I’m proud to share my voice with such a dynamic readership.”
Q: What’s next for you?
Angela: I’m continuing to grow and learn everyday both with my fitness and mindset, my styling and through my pages in EYE and Chinese EYE Magazine. I love creating spaces where women feel seen and celebrated. Whether it’s fashion, mindset, or lifestyle, I’m here to help others live their best, most stylish lives with confidence and courage. What this space, I am on a journey.

MBCHB, FRNZCGP, MNZSCM CO-FOUNDER OF CLINIC 42 IN AUCKLAND
With her warm, down-to-earth nature and uncompromising commitment to medical integrity Dr Joanna Romanowska is one of Eye magazines chosen Women to Watch.
EYE Magazine: Joanna, congratulations on being named one of our Women to Watch. Tell us what inspired you to co-found Clinic 42?
Dr Joanna Romanowska: Thank you! Clinic 42 was born from a desire to offer something truly different in the aesthetic medicine space, something authentic, ethical, and medically grounded. We launched in 2001 with the idea that looking and feeling your best should be safe, personalised, and empowering, not cookie-cutter or intimidating.
EYE: Clinic 42 has a reputation for being incredibly patient-focused. How do you maintain that personal touch?
Dr Joanna: Every patient who walks through our doors is treated with respect, empathy, and time. There’s no “one-size-fits-all” here. We consider your lifestyle, goals, medical history, everything. We want our patients to feel heard and supported. This is a journey, not a quick fix, and we’re here every step of the way.
EYE: You’re known for embracing cutting-edge treatments like stem cell therapy and Emsculpt Neo. How do you balance innovation with safety?
Dr Joanna: Carefully and thoughtfully. We only introduce treatments backed by science, clinical results, and safety data. Technologies like stem cell therapy and Emsculpt Neo aren’t just about aesthetics, they can be life-changing for those with chronic conditions. That’s incredibly rewarding.
As co-founder of the trailblazing Clinic 42, Joanna is one of the most respected and beloved names in the industry. Her mantra? “The best you, is what we do.”
EYE: In an industry filled with unrealistic beauty standards, how do you keep your work grounded?
Dr Joanna: By focusing on the individual. Beauty isn’t about erasing age or chasing perfection it’s about restoring confidence and helping someone feel like the best version of themselves.
EYE: What advice would you give to young women looking to enter the beauty or aesthetic medicine field?
Dr Joanna: First and foremost, be medically trained and stay informed, this is a very rapidly evolving field where knowledge truly is power. Lead with integrity and empathy. Never compromise your values for trends. And always remember, you’re not just treating a face you’re helping someone change how they see themselves. That’s a privilege.
EYE: Finally, what drives you to keep doing what you do?
Dr Joanna: It’s seeing the ripple effect on many aspects of the patients’ experience . When someone leaves Clinic 42 feeling great about themselves, that confidence radiates into their home, their relationships, their community. It’s more than skin deep. It’s lifechanging, for them and for us.

EYE Women to Watch: Carlie Hogan founder of Becca Projecta wellness brand rooted in scent, strength and self-care.
Where did the idea for Becca Project begin?
I’ve always been a go-go-go person. But a few years ago, after running multiple half marathons and juggling work and family life, my body just gave out. I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue and an autoimmune condition. During that difficult time, a close friend introduced me to essential oils. I found them so helpful, and it got me thinking, what if I could enjoy their benefits in everyday ways? That’s where the idea for essential oil candles came from. I’ve always loved candles, so combining scent with holistic healing felt like a natural fit.
How did the solid perfumes come about?
I wanted a way for people to take those beautiful, grounding scents with them wherever they went. That’s how our solid perfumes were born, small, stylish and filled with powerful blends. They quickly became a favourite among our customers and helped shape Becca Project into a brand that travels with you, both physically and emotionally.
What makes Becca Project different?
We’re part of the slow beauty movement, focusing on thoughtful, intentional wellness. Every product whether it’s a candle, body oil or solid perfume is carefully created using essential oils that support mood, health and balance.
What advice do you have for other women starting a business?
Be brave. Back yourself, even when you’re scared. Stay focused on your ‘why’ the reason you started and don’t be afraid to evolve. Also, surround yourself with people who uplift you. There will be hard days, but staying true to your purpose and values will always guide you back to the path.
What’s next for Becca Project?
We’re continuing to grow our range and explore new ways to bring wellness into everyday routines. But at our core, we’re still all about empowering people to slow down, breathe deeply and embrace selfcare through scent.

Women have the potential to be great investors. Research shows we’re often more risk-aware, more disciplined, and more willing to seek advice than men. So why do many of us still hesitate to invest? The answer may lie in the invisible influence of money biases, mental shortcuts and beliefs we’ve picked up over time.
The same way we decide what food is healthy or which school is best, we also form beliefs about money based on our upbringing, the media, or our social circles. These beliefs, or ‘money scripts,’ can affect how we save and invest, often without us realising it. It’s worth reflecting on the financial ideas we absorbed in childhood. Are they still valid? Or are they quietly holding us back?
Investment advisers, like those at Craigs Investment Partners, work hard to understand each client’s background, their financial goals, appetite for risk, and any personal biases that might be influencing how they make investment decisions.
Three common biases are bandwagon bias, confirmation bias, and loss aversion.
This happens when we want to copy what others are doing, without fully considering if it’s right for us. Think of trends like buying cryptocurrency or NFTs.
We may jump in because others are, not because we’ve properly evaluated the risks or relevance to our own financial goals.
Confirmation Bias: Seeing the World Through a Filter
We all tend to seek out information that confirms what we already believe, and ignore what doesn’t. But in investing, this can be dangerous. If you only consider opinions or data that align with your own, you could end up with a portfolio that’s riskier than it should be. Just because you like a brand or a product doesn’t mean it’s a sound investment.
Humans tend to feel the pain of a loss more intensely than the joy of a gain. Even if nine of your ten investments rise, the one that falls can cloud your judgment. This can lead people to hold on to poor-performing investments too long, hoping for a rebound that may not come, rather than moving on and finding better opportunities elsewhere.
Working with a knowledgeable investment adviser can help. Craigs Investment Partners, for example, offers practical, relatable advice designed to help women feel confident and in control of their financial future. They recognise that investing is often more than just money,
it’s also about wellbeing, security, and peace of mind.
With over 40 female investment advisers across New Zealand and a strong focus on financial education, Craigs is helping women step confidently into the world of investing. While progress is being made, there’s still room for more women to unlock their financial potential, and overcome the doubts that hold them back.
To discuss your investment goals and needs with a Craigs Investment Adviser, book a free no-obligation consultation today. They will help you understand the most suitable investment options based on your circumstances and risk tolerance.

From top-performing athlete to television personality and now Director of KIELY & CO., Jayne Kiely is a force in Auckland real estate. With multiple Elite awards under her belt, and as cohost of Location, Location, Location NZ, Jayne is known for one thing above all: getting results for her clients. We spoke to her about the current market, her relentless approach to achieving great outcomes, and why trust and transparency are at the heart of everything she does.
Q: Jayne, you’ve earned an exceptional reputation in Auckland property - what’s been the key to your success?
A: It’s simple: I care deeply about my clients. Every home I list, I treat as if it were my own. I’m involved in every detailstrategy, marketing, negotiations - and I don’t stop until my team and I have achieved the best possible result. I believe in honest communication and hard work. When people know you have their back, trust is built - and trust sells homes.
Q: What’s your process when someone comes to you to sell their property?
A: First, I listen. I want to understand their motivation, timelines, and any emotional ties to the home. From there I tailor a plan. Every property is different. Whether it’s a full marketing campaign, staging advice, or pre-market buyer matchmaking, it’s all about positioning that property in the best possible light to maximise value. Then my team and I work tirelessly to deliver.
Q: Auckland’s market has changed a lot over the past few yearswhat’s the reality on the ground now?
A: The market is balanced. It’s no longer runaway prices or bargain-hunting panic - it’s smart, informed buying and selling. Good homes, priced correctly and marketed well, are still selling - and often with competition. Buyers are savvy, so vendors need to be strategic. I thrive in this kind of market because it rewards preparation, skill and tenacity.
Q: What types of buyers are you currently seeing in Remuera and surrounding suburbs?
A: There’s a solid mix - local families upgrading, downsizers wanting location and comfort, and returning expats with capital to spend.
We’re also seeing a resurgence of offshore interest, particularly from buyers who know the area’s value and lifestyle offering. These clients often rely on local agents they can trust - and that’s where strong relationships and reputation really matter.
Q: Do you still get a buzz when you close a sale?
A: Absolutely! Especially when it’s a hard-fought negotiation or a situation where my client really needed a result. It’s incredibly satisfying to exceed expectations. My goal isn’t just to sell - it’s to get the best price, in the best time frame, with the least stress. That’s why I do what I do.
Q: You have just been recognised Elite Status again this year. What drives that level of consistency?
A: Relentless follow-up, genuine relationships, and knowing my market better than anyone. I don’t rely on luck - I build networks, I stay across every listing and sale in the area, and I never assume anything. I’m always refining my approach to give my clients an edge. It’s about doing the work - day in, day out.
Q: How has your role on Location, Location, Location NZ helped your real estate career?
A: It’s opened a lot of doors, but more importantly, it reflects what I do every day - matching people with the right property. The show has highlighted how emotional and nuanced property decisions can be, and that’s something I navigate with my clients all the time. Whether on-screen or in real life, it’s about trust, empathy, and results.
Q: What would you say to someone who’s nervous about selling in today’s market?
A: Talk to a trusted expert. The right strategy, timing, and marketing make all the difference. Don’t let headlines paralyse you - real estate is still one of the most powerful tools for building wealth. If your property is priced and presented properly, there is a buyer for it. I’ve sold homes others couldn’t - because I dig deeper, work harder, and never give up.
Jayne Kiely and KIELY & CO. continue to redefine service in real estate, combining insight, integrity, and determination to deliver exceptional outcomes. Whether you’re upsizing, downsizing or starting fresh - Jayne is in your corner.

The story of Compôte stands out like a sculpted fruit in a bowl of sameness. It’s a tale rooted in family, heritage, and a shared love of art and beauty. The Howell & Hanson Family has recently secured exclusive rights to distribute Bull & Stein’s extraordinary fruit sculptures in New Zealand. Compôte is more than a new business venture for this family and is being brought to life through colour, form, and storytelling. A tribute to loved ones and like a Compôte it brings the family with various heritages from Auckland, London, Sydney, St Etienne, Port Talbot, and Taupiri together - a real Compôte!
At the heart of Compôte is a family whose roots span continents and cultures. Lynda, with her vibrant Kiwi, Māori and Welsh lineage; Pascale, born in London and having lived across Australia, France and New Zealand; Casey, born in Sydney with time in the UK and France; Amelie, also born in Sydney and having lived in three countries; and Nick, with English and French blood, together, they bring a collective history of twelve passports and endless stories. This rich blend of experiences, cultures, and connections forms the DNA of Compôte.
“Compôte is many things to us,” says Lynda. “It is a tribute to our past, to our grandparents and parents, and a gift to those who will come after us. It’s also a beautiful way for us to work together as a family, combining our different skills and experiences into something that brings joy and wonder to others.”
The idea behind Compôte began with a sculpture a single fruit that sparked fascination and was gifted to a family member in Bad Nauheim, Germany.
It was something new, something deeply European, yet it spoke to the family’s own eclectic identity. That moment marked the beginning of a journey not just into the world of art distribution but into creating a unique offering for Aotearoa: premium handcrafted fruit sculptures that double as conversation starters and statement pieces. Art has always run through the veins of Lynda’s family. Her grandfather, father, and sisters Anna and Donna brought creativity and craft into their lives and homes. Anna was an artist whose works still adorn the family’s walls, forming part of the visual narrative of Compôte. Her influence is a poignant reminder of the role art plays in shaping our sense of place, memory, and identity. “Art brings something to your life—a moment, a feeling, a memory, even if you can’t create it yourself,” says Lynda. “And with Compôte, we want to make those moments accessible to more people.”
That sentiment flows through every detail of the Compôte brand. With six fruit styles, ten collections, twelve sizes ranging from a delicate 5.5cm to a towering two metres, and over thirty colours, there is something to suit every space and sensibility. It is this sense of endless possibility and personalisation that gives the range its distinctive charm.
That’s the mantra Compôte lives by. Their sculptures aren’t just ornamental. They’re emotional, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and connect. Whether it’s a lime green pear on a kitchen bench or a two-metre cherry in a hotel foyer, each piece becomes a moment, a spark of curiosity and conversation.
The sculptures themselves come from a powerful creative lineage. Founded in 2000 through a Brazilian-German partnership between Cynthia Stein and Marcus Bull, Bull & Stein has grown into a global phenomenon. Their fruit sculptures, manufactured in Porto, Portugal, are celebrated worldwide for their craftsmanship, playfulness, and stunning visual impact.
Shortly after its launch, Bull & Stein welcomed celebrated Brazilian artist Lisa Pappon to the team. Her signature fruit designs, from glossy red apples to surreal blue bananas blend natural form with extravagant style. Lisa’s background as a painter and sculptor, paired with her passion for crosscultural influence, makes her the soul of the Bull & Stein range.
Her process is intensely hands-on. She insists on a direct link to each step of production, ensuring that every sculpture is truly one of a kind. Her materials span from glass and ceramics to porcelain and bronze, allowing for creative versatility while maintaining her unmistakable style.
Adding another layer of excitement to the collection is the collaboration with Portuguese graffiti artist Bruno Jorge Monteiro e Silva. His urban-inspired works have brought a graffiti edition to Bull & Stein, offering vibrant, streetsmart interpretations of the classic fruit forms.
With his background in graffiti, tattoo, and Arabic script, Bruno has infused the sculptures with a new energy. Each one bursts with bold hues and messages that reflect modern life, culture, and optimism. The collaboration has been a hit globally and is now available in New Zealand thanks to Compôte.
For the Compôte family, this is just the beginning. In the past six months alone, they’ve added four new members to the family and their own Compôte story. They dream of expanding their reach across New Zealand and eventually introducing curated exhibitions and bespoke installations. The goal? To spark more conversations, share more colour, and celebrate the everyday through art.
“We are proud to be part of this journey,” says Amelie. “This isn’t just about importing art, it’s about starting something here that feels vibrant, relevant, and enduring.”
Compôte invites everyone to experience their world: where fruit is more than fruit, where art is family, and where every sculpture starts a story.
We are Compôte.

Ten things to avoid to ensure you always look polished and sophisticated in your fashion choices: 4 7 10 2 5 8 3 6 9
Clothes that are too tight or too loose can make even the most expensive items look cheap. Tailoring can make a huge difference in your overall appearance.
Overly Trendy Items.
While it’s fun to incorporate trends, relying too heavily on them can date your look. Opt for timeless pieces that you can wear for years.
Materials like polyester and low-quality cotton can give off a cheap vibe. Invest in higher-quality fabrics like silk, wool, or cotton blends for a more refined look.
Excessive Logo Display
Wearing items that are heavily branded can come across as trying too hard. Subtlety often speaks louder than bold logos.
Inappropriate Footwear
Shoes can make or break an outfit. Avoid overly casual footwear, like flip-flops or worn-out sneakers, in settings that call for sophistication.
Over-
Accessorising
While accessories are a great way to express your style, too many can overwhelm your look. Choose a few key pieces that complement your outfit.
A polished appearance includes wellgroomed hair and makeup.
Mixing too many different styles can create a chaotic look. Strive for a cohesive outfit that tells a story.
Clothes that are faded, torn, or have pilling can detract from your overall look. Regularly assess your wardrobe and let go of anything that’s seen better days.
Ignoring the Occasion
Dressing inappropriately for an occasion can make you stand out for the wrong reasons. Always consider the context and dress accordingly.
By being mindful of these elements, you can feel confident in your style and project an image of confidence and sophistication.

Raised watching her mother’s impeccable work in the field of cosmetic medicine, it was only natural that Leigh Cattin would join Dr. Teresa Cattin’s highly regarded FaceWorks clinic in Mairangi Bay, quickly accruing an impressive client list of her own.
Highly trained in the use of neuromodulators and cosmetic fillers and a leader in her field, Teresa has over 25 years’ experience in cosmetic medicine and is famed for her less-is-more approach to graceful ageing. A past President of the New Zealand College of Appearance Medicine who is regularly invited to speak at international conferences, she pioneered the use of the ‘French Touch’ approach to injectables in New Zealand, effectively using carefully placed, very small amounts of cosmetic injectables to rejuvenate and enhance the face subtly and discreetly.
Leigh, a newly graduated doctor who recently travelled with Teresa to an aesthetics conference in Monaco, is planning to follow in her mother’s footsteps with a career in family medicine and appearance medicine, and the pair thrive on the working environment that a mother-daughter relationship brings. Working from Teresa’s clinic on Auckland’s Apollo Drive, Leigh, who has a particular interest in neuromodulators and lip enhancements for younger patients, has bought an impressive new dynamic to the space and a raft of new clients who appreciate the considerable difference that taking a subtle but considered approach to injectables makes.
‘With younger patients, it’s not about softening age-related changes on the face, but rather about carefully enhancing each client’s natural beauty,’ says Leigh. ‘Sometimes a lip may be just slightly too thin or asymmetrical, and a very small amount of product can make all the difference in a way that is not at all obvious or ‘done’ looking.’
Both women are passionate about the gentle but effective French approach to appearance medicine, with Teresa saying: ‘There is increasing evidence that tiny amounts of neuromodulators given regularly and started at the right time can actually prevent very deep lines from forming. Deep lines aren’t necessarily a result of age at all. They can be a family trait, which can start at a much younger age. Neuromodulators control the development of these family traits beautifully, for natural results that never look frozen.’
Incredibly serene but with just the right amount of comfort thrown in for good measure, the FaceWorks clinic is a true reflection of the professionalism and warmth you experience when you meet Teresa and Leigh, making it a true ‘beauty destination’ worth visiting.

For years, dermal fillers have been marketed as a quick fix for lost volume, smoothing wrinkles, and enhancing facial contours. But new research is shedding light on a lesser-known truth, fillers don’t just dissolve and disappear over time as once believed. Instead, they can accumulate and remain in the face for years, subtly altering facial structure in ways many patients never anticipated.
Initially, fillers were thought to break down naturally within six to eighteen months, prompting regular topups. However, advanced imaging now reveals that filler material can remain in the tissue, creating a long-term “landing pad” for additional product. Over time, this build-up can lead to an overly full or puffy appearance, particularly in women who start fillers later in life.
Rather than restoring a youthful, lifted look, excessive filler can create an artificial softness that blurs natural contours. The result? A face that appears swollen rather than refreshed. Some women have even opted for dissolving treatments to counteract years of overfilling, restoring a more natural appearance.
The key takeaway? Less is often more. A strategic, light-handed approach, or exploring alternative skin treatments, may be the best way to maintain a youthful look without the risk of long-term volume distortion. Before committing to fillers, understanding how they interact with your facial structure over time is crucial. Because when it comes to appearance medicine, it’s not just about what you add, but what stays.

In the world of modern medicine and wellness, two groundbreaking treatments: stem cell therapy and the Emsculpt Neo machine are transforming lives for people living with chronic conditions. Right here in Auckland, Clinic 42 is leading the charge, offering these cutting-edge therapies to help patients regain strength, mobility, and quality of life.
Stem cell therapy harnesses the body’s natural healing power. These remarkable cells can regenerate damaged tissue, reduce inflammation, and repair injury making them a powerful tool for treating chronic pain, arthritis, joint injuries, and autoimmune conditions.
At Clinic 42, stem cell treatments are expertly administered using the patient’s own cells, usually drawn from fat tissue. Once processed and re-injected into the affected area, the cells begin repairing and regenerating tissue, helping reduce pain and improve function with minimal downtime.
Then there’s Emsculpt Neo, a high-tech, non-invasive treatment that combines radiofrequency and high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM+) energy to build muscle and burn fat simultaneously. Originally celebrated for body sculpting, this machine has proven to be a game-changer for people suffering from chronic muscle weakness, lower back pain, poor posture, and rehabilitation needs. By strengthening core muscle groups and improving circulation, Emsculpt Neo offers measurable improvements in strength, endurance, and mobility, often within just a few sessions.
What’s truly exciting is how these two therapies complement each other. While stem cells work from the inside to heal and regenerate, Emsculpt Neo provides muscular activation and improved blood flow to support that healing process. Together, they offer a powerful, non-surgical solution for those who’ve spent years battling pain, fatigue, or immobility.
At Clinic 42, the team is passionate about making these revolutionary treatments accessible, not just to elite athletes or cosmetic clients, but to everyday people in the community who want to reclaim their health and live more fully. Whether you’re recovering from injury, managing a chronic condition, or simply looking to feel stronger and more mobile, these therapies offer real, lasting change.
Dr Joanna Romanowska clinical director says “Having been in this rapidly expanding and evolving field for over 25 years, I feel privileged to still be offering cutting edge, therapeutic as well as cosmetic options for a variety of conditions. The changes we see in our patients and the impact on their wellbeing are both humbling and inspiring”
The future of healing is here and it’s happening now at Clinic 42 in Auckland.

As a beauty editor, I’ve had the privilege (and let’s be honest, the fun!) of trying countless skincare brands over the years. But few have delivered the kind of visible, confidenceboosting results that AlumierMD has. Introduced to me by a trusted skin specialist, this professionally-dispensed skincare line has completely changed the way I think about skin health and my own skin.
Like many, I’d been battling uneven skin tone and stubborn pigmentation that just wouldn’t shift. Despite using high-end serums and “miracle” creams, nothing made a lasting difference. That was until AlumierMD. After just a few weeks, I began noticing a change: my pigmentation faded, my skin tone evened out, and best of all, my skin had that elusive healthy glow, something I hadn’t seen in years.
AlumierMD isn’t your average skincare brand. Launched in 2016, it was created by a team of physicians, scientists, and skincare experts with over a century of combined experience. Their goal?
To fuse cutting-edge science with clean formulations, creating medical-grade skincare that delivers real results.
Every product is designed to be used under professional guidance, ensuring it’s right for your skin and used effectively.
AlumierMD is commitmented to both innovation and integrity. Their patented technology ensures product authenticity (no counterfeits here), and they’re dedicated to sustainability and clean science. It’s a brand that walks the talk, and you can feel that with every use.
My skincare routine is now simple, effective, and thoughtfully curated and my skin has never looked or felt better. If you’re ready to invest in your skin with a brand backed by science and trusted by professionals, I highly recommend AlumierMD. It’s transformative care, personalised just for you.

As someone who spends their days immersed in all things beauty, fashion, health and lifestyle, I thought I had a decent handle on my well-being until a friend recommended Well for Life and I decided to go through the process and experienced the Well for Life Premiere Medical. Let me tell you, it was a game-changer.
Like many of us, I’ve struggled to get more than 15 minutes with my GP. Between back-to-back work commitments, travel, and life in general, it’s easy to push health checks down the list. But after an afternoon at Well for Life’s boutique clinic in Central Auckland, I realised what a true health reset feels like and it’s something I’ll be doing every year from now on.
From the moment I walked in, I felt I was in expert hands. This wasn’t a rushed or tick-box experience; it was comprehensive, insightful, and surprisingly enjoyable. The team’s professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail made me feel genuinely cared for. They paid attention to my family history, took blood tests and asked lots of relevant questions. And better still, I left with more knowledge about my body than I’ve had in years.
What makes Well for Life different?
Tailored care. Real expertise. Genuine time. Well for Life has been New Zealand’s leading provider of preventive medical and health screening services for over 20 years. Whether you’re an individual or part of a corporate group, the team works with you to create a health plan that suits your unique needs.
Their Premiere Medical which I experienced is their most popular and in-depth check-up. In just two hours, you get a head-to-toe assessment, lifestyle evaluation, blood tests, skin check, vision and hearing tests, lung function testing, ECG, and more. No stone is left unturned.
I particularly appreciated the full mole and skin check done by Dr Martin Denby himself, along with hearing and vision testing. As someone who’s constantly in front of screens and under lights, those two alone made the visit worthwhile. And to top it off, I received a detailed report with recommendations for improving everything from sleep to stress, hormone health to iron levels.
Dr Martin Denby is not only the clinic’s medical director, he’s one of New Zealand’s most qualified skin cancer doctors. With a Masters in Skin Cancer and years of preventive health experience, Martin brings incredible depth to every consultation.
Esther Quinn, the co-director and clinical exercise physiologist, brings a passion for holistic health, cardiovascular wellness, and lifestyle-based prevention. Her practical insights into exercise, sleep and stress were some of the most valuable takeaways I had. You can tell she loves what she does and she’s incredibly good at it.
best you - from the inside out
At Well for Life, their philosophy is simple: the best you, starts with knowing you. Whether you’re a woman navigating menopause, a man over 50 wanting a reset, or just someone ready to take health into your own hands, this is the place.
No rushed appointments, no guesswork - just time, knowledge, and real medical support. They even offer optional extras like full body MRIs, DEXA scans for bone health, and colonoscopy referrals if needed. For women, there’s a dedicated lens on hormones, menopause, and ageing, something so many health providers still overlook.
There’s something powerful about walking out of a clinic feeling reassured, equipped and genuinely supported. Well for Life gave me that and I can’t recommend it enough. If you can’t get into your GP, or you’re after more than a 15-minute check-up, this is your solution.
Think of it as your annual health WOF, one that’s enjoyable. And trust me, after you’ve done it once, you will always go back!

That’s where NZGS & Medical and Remuera Surgical Care step in. Led by Dr Rick Cirolli, his clinic specialises in Laser Haemorrhoidoplasty (LHP), Laser Treatment of Fistula in Ano and Laser Pilonidal Sinus. Common conditions such as haemorrhoids can affect anyone; often triggered by factors like obesity, chronic constipation, pregnancy, genetics, or lifestyle. When ‘sitting pretty’ is no longer an option, and you find yourself avoiding hard chairs and long meetings, it may be time to explore treatment options. Dr Cirolli performs LHP laser treatments for the treatment of Fistula Ano and Pilonidal Sinus. These treatments at his Auckland clinic are gamechanging minimally invasive procedures.
LHP is performed under intravenous sedation and local anesthesia using a precision laser fibre to shrink haemorrhoidal tissue. Additional benefits include shorter operating time, faster recovery, bactericidal effects, preservation of adjacent structures, reduced incidence of scarring or incontinence, almost no bleeding, less post operative discomfort and zero stitches, making it a day-stay procedure with shorter recovery time. There’s no general anaesthesia, just relief. For Fistula in Ano, laser treatment spares the sphincter muscle, helping preserve continence and avoid scarring. These are progressive conditions if they are left untreated, fistulas can become increasingly complex and harder to manage. Laser treatment offers a gentle, tissue-preserving option that may reduce the risk of long-term complications.
Also on offer? Laser treatment for Pilonidal Sinus - a condition caused by ingrown hairs in areas such as the upper buttocks, back of the neck or armpit. It may cause infection and pain when sitting.
Using Intravenous sedation and local anaesthetic only, NZGS treats it with no stitches, no big wounds, minimising disruption to patients’ lives.
The bottom line? (Excuse the pun) You don’t have to suffer in silence. If you’re experiencing symptoms from these, or similar conditions, the team at NZGS is here to get you back to feeling good, from the bottom up.

Travelling can be inspiring, exciting, and rejuvenating, but it can also take a toll on your health if you’re not careful. Whether you’re heading off on an international adventure or planning a luxury weekend escape, here are five smart and simple ways to stay healthy while you explore.
• 1. Hydrate Like a Pro
Travel can be dehydrating, especially when flying. Always keep a refillable water bottle with you and aim to drink at least two litres of water a day. Staying hydrated supports energy, digestion, and your immune system.
• 2. Pack a Mini Wellness Kit
Don’t leave your health to chance. Bring along essentials like hand sanitiser, paracetamol, motion sickness tablets, probiotics, lip balm, and any regular medication. Add some healthy snacks like nuts or protein bars to avoid processed food traps.
• 3. Prioritise Sleep and Reset Naturally
Sleep is your body’s best defence against travel stress. Pack an eye mask, noise-cancelling earbudsor earplugs, and consider a natural sleep aid such as magnesium or melatonin. Try adjusting your bedtime to the destination time zone before you arrive to ease jet lag.
• 4. Move Your Body Daily
Long hours in transit can lead to stiff joints and sluggish energy. Get moving with a morning stretch, a walk in fresh air, or a quick hotel-room workout. Keeping your body active helps you stay refreshed and mentally clear.
• 5. Eat Well but Still Indulge
Enjoy the local cuisine, but find your balance. Aim to include at least one healthy meal a day packed with fibre, lean protein, and fresh vegetables or fruit. Try to limit excess alcohol, sugar, and salty foods that can leave you feeling bloated and tired.
Travel well, feel amazing, and arrive glowing. Your next destination deserves the best version of you.

As New Zealand moves toward a future of net zero emissions by 2050, one company is helping families futureproof their homes against rising energy demands and increasing instability in power supply. Meet PowerHub, a high-tech energy service provider transforming how Kiwis access, manage, and benefit from electricity.
PowerHub, an approved electricity retailer registered with the Electricity Authority, isn’t just selling power. It’s redefining energy delivery for New Zealand households through innovation, customer-centric solutions, and a bold vision: to be the market leader in optimised energy services. By leveraging technology like batteries, solar PV, and wind power, PowerHub is helping to stabilise electricity supply, reduce waste, lower carbon emissions, and support the transition to a more sustainable future.
New Zealand’s national electricity grid, owned and operated by Transpower, is generally considered reliable. However, it’s not without its vulnerabilities. Over the years, events like the 1998 Auckland power crisis, the 2006 blackout, and a 2009 outage caused by a forklift accident have raised concerns about the fragility of our infrastructure. While Transpower continues to upgrade and expand the aging grid, the pace of development is
PowerHub’s services are particularly suited for households that rely heavily on consistent power. If any of the following scenarios sound familiar, PowerHub may be the right fit:
• Are you worried about air-conditioning not working during heat waves?
• Are you concerned about not having hot water or heating during cold snaps?
• Do you get annoyed when being kicked out of your gaming during power cuts?
• Do you have a server at home that needs an uninterruptible power supply (UPS)?
• Are you renovating your kitchen to include more premium appliances?
• Are you installing a heated swimming pool?
• Do you have a wine cellar that needs temperature control for your collection?
struggling to keep up with soaring household electricity demands. As more Kiwi homes adopt electric vehicles, smart appliances, and digital infrastructure, uninterrupted power is no longer a luxury, it’s a necessity. From working remotely to managing temperaturesensitive appliances, modern lifestyles demand a level of energy stability that traditional systems can no longer guarantee.
Recognising these challenges, PowerHub has stepped in with a future-focused model that reimagines how families interact with their energy provider. Rather than simply supplying power, PowerHub offers complete energy solutions aimed at improving the reliability and efficiency of electricity use at home.
Currently, their core service leverages advanced battery systems to maintain a secure power supply, even during grid interruptions. In the near future, PowerHub plans to roll out solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, smart appliances, and other innovations to provide even greater control and energy independence to Kiwi households.
“Our mission is to provide a service that ensures stability and security of power usage for all New Zealand homes,” says a spokesperson from PowerHub. “We’re not just an electricity company, we’re a technologydriven service provider committed to delivering exceptional customer care and meaningful solutions that work.”
If you answered yes to any one of the questions above, enjoy pioneering new services with proven technology, and currently consume 20,000 kWh or more per year (or spend at least $450 a month on electricity), then PowerHub may be the solution your household needs.
PowerHub operates on a simple and flexible subscription model designed for highusage households. If your home’s electricity consumption exceeds 20,000 kWh annually, the equivalent of around $450 per month, then you’re likely to benefit from PowerHub’s suite of services.
This premium offering is available exclusively to PowerHub Club Members, with no fixed contracts. For just $100 a month, less than the cost of a daily coffee, members gain access to a range of innovative energy solutions. The first major feature to launch is residential battery systems, designed to keep the lights on and appliances running even when the grid goes down.
And this is just the beginning. PowerHub is laying the groundwork for an increasingly digitised and efficient future, with upcoming releases to include solar PV systems, smart home appliances, and additional technology that enhances control, comfort, and sustainability.
In a world where energy use is becoming more complex and critical, PowerHub is delivering a simple promise: secure, sustainable, and smart power, tailored to the needs of today’s Kiwi families.

Whether you’re a first-time pup parent or a seasoned dog lover, balancing city life with canine care can be a challenge. Here’s a straightforward guide to keep your four-legged friend happy, healthy, and thriving, no matter how hectic your schedule.
Dogs need regular movement to stay fit and mentally stimulated. Aim for two 20- to 30-minute walks each day, mixing in snifffriendly routes and off-lead play at a local dog park. If you work long hours, consider a midday dog-walker or doggy daycare to break up their day.
Choose a high-quality dry or wet food formulated for your dog’s age, size, and activity level. Always provide fresh water, and avoid table scraps that can lead to weight gain or digestive issues. Treats are fine in moderation, opt for natural, low-calorie options like carrot sticks or apple slices.
Even short-haired breeds benefit from weekly brushing to remove loose fur and distribute natural oils. Long-haired dogs need more frequent grooming to prevent mats. Don’t forget nail trims, ear checks, and occasional baths with a gentle, dog-friendly shampoo.
Schedule annual check-ups and keep vaccinations, flea, tick, and worming treatments up to date. Early detection of health issues can save time, money, and stress down the road.
Offer puzzle toys, chews, and obedience training to engage your dog’s brain. Simple games like hide-and-seek with treats or rotating their toy collection can stave off boredom and unwanted behaviors. By incorporating these essentials into your routine, you’ll ensure your dog lives a balanced, joyful life, no matter how fast your city pace.

Queenstown is one of those rare places where you can sip a cocktail in a luxe lodge, ride a gondola into the clouds, or plunge into an adrenaline-fuelled jet boat ride all in one day. Packing for a Queenstown escape means balancing style with practicality, warmth with flexibility, and just a touch of glamour. Here’s what to take:
1. Layers Are Your Best Friend
Queenstown’s weather can change on a dime sunny one moment, crisp and cool the next. Think stylish base layers, merino wool tops, soft knits, and a warm puffer or down jacket. A lightweight waterproof jacket is a must for unexpected showers.
Whether you’re hiking up Ben Lomond, biking the lakeside trails, or heading to yoga, sleek activewear is essential. Pack moisture-wicking leggings, a long-sleeve layer, and sturdy trail shoes. Bonus points for neutrals that double as casual daywear.
3. Après-Adventure Chic
You’ll want something polished for dinner or drinks. Think smart-casual: jeans, ankle boots, a cashmere sweater or a sleek blazer. Queenstown style is relaxed but refined. A great scarf and statement earrings go a long way.
From vineyard strolls to alpine views, pack comfortable walking shoes, hiking boots if you’re planning to explore off the beaten track, and something stylish for evening, leather boots or smart sneakers work well.
Pro Tip: Take a lip balm, and if you forget something, Queenstown’s boutiques offer everything from luxury outerwear to New Zealand-made skincare and homegrown fashion labels.
Perched on a hilltop with sweeping views of Lake Wakatipu and the surrounding mountains, Azur offers a luxurious escape that balances seclusion with proximity. Just five minutes from downtown Queenstown, this contemporary lodge features nine identical, architecturally designed villas - each a sanctuary of privacy and panoramic beauty.
Spanning 79sqm, the open-plan one-bedroom villas include a lounge, dining area, private sundeck and a deep-sock bathtub set into a bay window so you can immerse yourself in the natural landscape. Floorto-ceiling windows invite the outside in, framing uninterrupted views in a sophisticated style.

Locally sourced breakfasts and handcrafted evening canapés are served daily from the lodge’s open kitchen, rounding out the full Azur experience: refined, restful and remarkably connected to its breathtaking surroundings.

Christchurch is back and better than ever. Once defined by its resilience, the Garden City has transformed into one of New Zealand’s most exciting urban destinations.
Years of determined regeneration following the earthquakes and the global pandemic have given rise to a city buzzing with energy, creativity, and purpose. Today, Christchurch boasts world-class dining, cutting-edge retail, and design-forward developments that speak to a confident, progressive future.
At the heart of the city’s revival is its flourishing food scene. Local restaurateur David Warring, the force behind King of Snake and Roca, has been instrumental in shaping Christchurch’s culinary identity. “There’s a new energy here,” he says. “People are rediscovering the city and dining like never before.”
Lexi of Nook NZ, one of Christchurch’s newer residents echoes that sentiment. “We’re seeing locals and visitors excited about what’s unfolding. We love this city”
From fashion to homeware, Christchurch caters to discerning shoppers with flair.
One of the city’s true retail institutions is Serigos menswear, a suiting staple where owner Paul Dean, also known for bringing Hugo Boss to Christchurch, has been looking after locals and visitors alike for decades. “Christchurch has always been a city of resilience,” he says. “The past years have tested us, but we’ve come through stronger. Now, there’s an energy in the air, people are embracing life, dining out, going to events, supporting new retail stores and investing in the city’s future.” The Crossing precinct and New Regent Street serve as style hotspots, offering everything from boutique labels to global icons.
Fresh additions include the international activewear favourite Sweaty Betty and LSKD, which has chosen
Christchurch for its first South Island Store after years of phenomenal online growth in New Zealand. “Being here means we get to meet our community,” says founder Daniel. “Christchurch has a strong pulse, and we want to be part of it.”
Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū anchors the city’s creative core, with thought-provoking exhibitions that reflect the city’s cultural evolution. But the momentum doesn’t stop in the central city.
Out by the sea, Sumner is entering a new chapter of its own. Beachside Sumner, a just-announced residential development, promises to redefine coastal luxury on the South Island. Poised along the iconic Esplanade with panoramic views stretching to the Kaikōura Ranges, this exclusive enclave brings elevated architecture and design to one of Christchurch’s most beloved suburbs. It’s a bold signal of confidence and coastal sophistication.
One industry that has always been at the heart of Canterbury is racing, and Riccarton Park continues to be a key part of Christchurch’s sporting identity. Chris Rowe of Riccarton Park believes the city’s resurgence is reflected in its events. “Racing has always been a part of our culture. Now, with the city thriving again, we’re seeing people coming back to enjoy the excitement of race day, it’s a real celebration of everything great about our city.”
With boutique hotels like The Mayfair, a buzzing events calendar, and visionary developments from the CBD to the coast, Christchurch has firmly reclaimed its place on the world stage. It’s a city of innovation, beauty, and heart ready for you to explore.
Whether you’re sipping wine at Roca, shopping at The Crossing, or walking the beach in Sumner Christchurch is not just rebuilt. It’s reborn.
Poised along Sumner’s iconic Esplanade, Beachside Sumner introduces a level of refinement rarely seen on the South Island coastline. With panoramic, uninterrupted ocean views stretching north to the Kaikōura Ranges, this exclusive collection of residences occupies a truly unrivalled position, both geographically and architecturally. Offering impeccably designed one, two, and three-bedroom homes, each residence features single-level living with an emphasis on space, light, and refined luxury.
The long and distinguished practice of Aotearoa New Zealand artist Fred Graham (Ngāti Koroki Kahukura, Tainui) (1928–2025) is celebrated in this selection of significant sculptures and relief works from 1965 to 2013. They demonstrate the development of Graham’s distinctive visual language, which combines Māori and European artmaking traditions. Using wood, stone and stainless steel, Graham weaves together close observations of the natural world, birds in flight and the flow of water, with evocative references to the imagery and narratives of te ao Māori. Graham became a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2024 for his services to Māori art. Developed and toured by Te Uru Waitākere Contemporary Gallery.

The finishes are of the highest calibre, with natural textures, European appliances, and bespoke detailing throughout.
Beyond the residences lies a suite of resort-style amenities with rooftop dining, heated pool, spa, sauna, and fully equipped gym, delivering a lifestyle as effortless as it is considered. With prices starting at $875,000, Beachside Sumner offers a rare opportunity to secure a place where design, location, and lifestyle exist in perfect balance.

From One Mum’s Idea to a Game-Changer for Kiwi Families: Welcome to nook NZ
When Lexi Davey landed in Christchurch with her then 6-month-old, she quickly fell in love with the city’s wide-open spaces, welcoming community, and endless playgrounds, but finding up-to-date info on what to do with tiny humans wasn’t as easy as she’d hoped. Spoiler: it didn’t exist… So she built it herself.
That’s how nook NZ came to life, a down-toearth platform packed with inspiration, ideas, and honest advice for families across New Zealand, with a soft spot for Christchurch’s brilliant local gems. We sat down with Lexi to hear how nook NZ got started, why she’s passionate about keeping things real, and how it’s making family life easier, and a lot more fun.
What inspired you to start nook NZ?
Before kids, I was a managing editor for lifestyle and parenting publications in Hong Kong, always hunting for content that spoke to real people. Then I had kids. And suddenly, I was Googling at 5 a.m. trying to figure out what to do with two under-5s and a dog in a new city. I realised there was a massive gap — something that gave me the local, real-life scoop on things to do with kids in Christchurch. Everything I found was outdated or didn’t hit the mark.
So, I decided to fix that. Enter nook NZ: a place for parents and caregivers to find things to do, without endless scrolling. No one’s got time for that, especially when you’re trying to figure out how to make a sandwich that isn’t just carbs. I wanted to create something that was easy to navigate, inspiring, and fun, while keeping it real. We’re talking local gems, rainy-day activities, tips on surviving school holidays, and so much more. It’s about making life a little easier, a lot more fun, and maybe even finding a new favourite spot.
What sets nook NZ apart from other parenting platforms?
nook NZ is built for real life, the cold coffee, the chaos, the everyday beauty of raising kids. We’re not about “Pinterest-perfect” parenting.
Parenting is messy, unpredictable, and way more fun when you embrace it. We’re here to offer support, ideas, and a reminder that you’re absolutely crushing it, even when covered in half-eaten toast and the kids are on their third round of the same movie.
We also launched The Canterbaby Club - community events that give parents a chance to connect and enjoy perks. Think of it as your backstage pass to the best of what Christchurch has to offer, with exclusive events, discounts, and meetups that make the parenting gig a little more enjoyable.
Who is nook NZ for?
nook NZ is for anyone raising, caring for, or just keeping a tiny human alive, mums, dads, grandparents, caregivers, aunts, uncles, and family friends. We’re all about supporting the village that helps raise kids, because it truly takes a village (and sometimes a large glass of red). Every family is unique. Whether you’re navigating life with a newborn, a teenager, or something in between, nook NZ has your back with practical advice, local tips, and a bit of humour to get you through the day.
What’s been the most rewarding part of running nook NZ?
Honestly, it’s hearing from parents who say, “I found the best park/café/day out thanks to nook.” That feedback never gets old. Parenting can feel overwhelming, and when you’re running on cold caffeine and no sleep, finding somewhere to take the kids can feel like a job. If nook helps take a little of that mental load off and makes life easier, then that’s a win.
Can businesses advertise with nook NZ?
Absolutely! If you’ve got a brand, business, product, or event that fits with our community, we’d love to chat. We offer advertising that connects your business with a passionate group of Kiwi parents and caregivers.
Whether you’re a family-owned café, a local event, or a product that makes parenting easier, we’re here for it.
Where can we find you?
We’re proud to call Christchurch home, and it’s honestly a city that just keeps on giving. From the vibrant community spirit to the endless family-friendly spots, there’s no place we’d rather be. Whether it’s the parks and playgrounds or the local cafés that welcome families, Christchurch strikes the perfect balance of laid-back charm and modern conveniences.
We love sharing these local treasures with you. So grab a coffee (or two), take a moment for yourself, and explore all the amazing things Christchurch has to offer.

Tucked away in the verdant hills above the crystalline waters of the Bay of Islands is a place that feels like a secret. Eagles Nest is not your typical luxury retreat. It’s a collection of five award-winning extraordinary villas just minutes from the historic township of Russell, and yet it feels like an entirely different world.
From the moment you pass through the private gates, a sense of calm takes over. There’s something almost otherworldly about the way the villas are nestled among native bush, with panoramic views that stretch across the ocean. Dolphins often glide through the waters below, and at sunset the sky glows with golds and oranges, casting a soft light over everything.
Each of the five villas, First Light Temple, Sacred Space, Eagle Spirit, Rahimoana, and The Eyrie has its own unique design and personality, yet all are united by a commitment to elegance, privacy and the kind of detail that only comes with true luxury. Floor-to-ceiling glass brings the outside in, while private infinity pools, spa baths and expansive decks invite you to completely unwind. Interiors are stylish and serene, filled with curated artwork, designer furnishings and every modern comfort you could hope for.
What makes Eagles Nest truly special, however, is the freedom it offers. There’s no rigid structure here, no check-in desk or hotel routine. Instead, guests are encouraged to create their own rhythm. A personal chef is available to prepare gourmet meals in the comfort of your villa, or you can choose to self-cater with premium provisions replenished daily. Whether it’s a massage on your deck, a private yoga session at sunrise or a bespoke wellness treatment under the stars, everything is tailored to you.
Guests can join guided Kiwi Walks at night, where spotting the elusive North Island Brown Kiwi in its natural habitat is a rare and magical experience. Each villa also enjoys the sweet touch of Eagles Nest’s own honey, harvested from on-site beehives nestled within the estate’s lush native landscape.
Beyond the retreat, the Bay of Islands awaits. This region is a playground of natural beauty and adventure. Charter a yacht and explore the coastline, take a scenic helicopter flight from the villa’s helipad, spend a day clay target shooting or dive into the marine reserve for a close-up encounter with sea life. Russell’s charming streets are rich in history and local flavour, while nearby wineries and artisan producers offer a taste of Northland’s best.
Eagles Nest is also a favourite for couples seeking romance and seclusion. First Light Temple feels designed for love, with open fireplaces, dreamy views and complete privacy. It’s a place where time seems to slow, and where special moments are made to last.
What lingers most about Eagles Nest is the way it makes you feel. Completely taken care of, effortlessly relaxed, and deeply connected to the natural beauty that surrounds you. It’s a holiday and a soul-restoring experience. Whether you’re marking a milestone, escaping the everyday or simply seeking stillness, this is where you come to breathe, dream and reset.
In the world of luxury escapes, Eagles Nest stands quietly and confidently as one of New Zealand’s and the world’s finest. A place where every sunrise feels like a gift and every moment is your own.
Eagles Nest has recently achieved Qualmark Gold status in 2024, acknowledging its commitment to sustainable tourism practices.

These guided nocturnal walks provide a chance to observe the elusive North Island Brown Kiwi in its natural habitat. Equipped with red-light torches to minimise disturbance, guests can listen for the distinctive calls of the kiwi as they forage. The estate’s commitment to conservation, including predator control and the installation of kiwi houses, has fostered a thriving environment for these iconic birds. Additionally, the property is home to other rare species like the North Island Weka and the Little Blue Penguin, enhancing the immersive wildlife experience. eaglesnest.co.nz
Did you know Eagles Nest in the Bay of Islands produces its own honey right on the estate? These hives are carefully maintained on the property and produce small batches of pure, local honey that are featured in each villa. Located in Kerikeri, Lodore Gardens is redefining sustainable floristry, owners Bayley and Chris bring their creative backgrounds and passion for conservation to every bloom, growing spray-free, locally nurtured flowers with a deep respect for the land. Lodore Gardens are guided by the maramataka (Māori lunar calendar) and unlike imported flowers with heavy carbon footprints, Lodore Gardens’ blooms are grown in sync with nature, free from harmful chemicals, and wrapped in ecoconscious, plastic-free packaging. For Bayley, flowers became a path to healing after a life-changing injury, now, she and Chris share the joy and grounding of nature through their thoughtfully cultivated blooms.
We urge you to support local, sustainable floristry and embrace flowers as they should be fresh, fragrant, and free from chemicals. Next time you buy flowers, ask for NZ-grown, non-sprayed blooms, after all, who wants to sniff the fragrance of spray? With thanks to Jess Burges for the beautiful photo.

In Parnell, you’ll find cuisine from all over the world, hidden in villas in cobblestoned alleys and in plain sight on the main road. But what makes this suburb even more interesting is that there are several culinary options you’d be hard-pressed to find in other parts of Auckland. From Fijian to Italian, Nepalese to Indonesian, Indian to Samoan, Japanese to Brazilian, you can take your pick from a truly international lineup, all in one place. If you’re looking for a dish or bowl of something warm and comforting this winter, take a trip around the world with some of these amazing options (only a handful of what’s available in this diverse eating precinct).
Everest Dine
The happy staff here love serving up their authentic Nepalese fare, and the chilli momos are a must-try. Made from scratch (including the dough for the wrappers), these plump traditional dumplings are fried, then tossed in a vibrant Manchurian sauce, before being flamed right at the table. They also do great thali meals, if you feel like a little bit of everything.
Baruhlo
Baruhlo’s cosy interior is perfect for any chilly night, and if you order their hearty seafood paella loaded with market fish, cockles, prawns and a Morton bay bug from their Spanish-inspired menu, there’s absolutely no chance of the winter blues surviving. Vibrant, colourful and utterly delicious, it’s perfect as a share with your bestie, your Mum or your hot new date.

Despite New Zealanders’ eternal love for Fiji, it’s not that easy to get Fijian food when you return after your sun-filled holiday. That was until WAR turned up in Parnell. If you want something warm but tropical this winter, try their Valolo Smoke - grilled fish with poached vegetables and a comforting lemongrass coconut broth, you’ll actually want to drink! Even better, it comes with a bit of theatre as the lid is lifted, and the fragrant steam and smoke fill the air. This is where to go if you’re looking for the true flavours of Fiji, with dishes like lamb neck rourou, chilli crab and fish curry, amongst other more international crowd-pleasers.

269 Parnell
269 Parnell has so many ways to warm your soul - from all over the globe. Order a big bowl of Italian nduja spaghetti from Artisan Culture, Lamb and beef topped hummus from Aula’s Kitchen, a Brazilian meat board from Tambo (make sure you get the cheese bread, too) or luscious drippy Mexican birria tacos from Taco Amaiz. Despite its open courtyard vibe, you can snuggle up by the heaters in colder months.

Bandung
Bandung is an unexpected slice of Indonesia on the main street of Parnell, inspired by the tiny warungs of Bali and Java. With its cute decor and courtyard out the back, it’s the perfect place to share some delicious Indonesian street food dishes. In winter, you can’t go past their Mie Bakso, a steaming bowl of traditional meatball soup with egg noodles and vermicelli. That beef broth will cure absolutely anything that ails you.

Blue Elephant
Hidden in a cobblestoned courtyard off Parnell Road, this little villa has been serving up vibrant Thai dishes to locals for 15 years. Their duck curry is a crowd favourite with its tender sliced roast duck, tomatoes, pineapple, grapes, capsicum, lychee, and longan fruit. It’s a dish that feels warm and wintery with its fragrant spices, but somehow also transports you to the beautiful beaches of Thailand at the same time.

3 Nutmegs
The 3 Nutmegs menu is all about contemporary twists on traditional Indian dishes; all served in a lovely, welcoming spot at the top of Parnell Road. This winter, definitely try their smoked paneer in curry sauce with truffle butter naan. Everything is made from scratch - including the paneer - and the smoke from the tandoor gives it a wonderful aroma and flavour. Be warned - you may not want to share.

TALA
There was a lot of interest when it was rumoured a talented Samoan chef was bringing his high-end takes on the traditional food of his homeland, to Parnell. And it’s been a runaway success since the doors opened. If you can’t afford a Pacific holiday this year, this might be the next best thing; the TALA experience is all about sitting down and enjoying a multicourse modern Samoan food journey where authentic flavours are presented in ways not seen before. The perfect winter food adventure.

Cornelia
Cornelia’s cosy, intimate vibe will make you feel like you’ve gone to dinner at your (very talented) Italian friend’s home. The owner hails from Rome but has worked all over the world before bringing his incredible fare to Parnell. He works closely with local producers so he can make simple dishes where the best of ingredients, cooked skilfully, are the hero. The Truffle Casarecce is the creamy handmade winter pasta dish of your dreams; grab a friend, grab a bottle (the Italian wine list is fantastic) and enjoy a warm winter evening while Auckland’s weather does its thing outside.

The Cheese Wheel That Captivated Auckland: Inside Bossi’s Signature Dish
There’s a certain magic at Bossi, a sense that something special is happening the moment you walk through the doors. And if you’ve ever sat near the pass and watched molten cheese envelope strands of pasta in a 50kg wheel of Parmigiano Reggiano, you know exactly what we’re talking about.
Fast becoming one of Auckland’s most beloved dining destinations, Bossi has carved out a reputation for its modern, heartfelt take on Italian tradition. At the centre of this acclaim is its now-iconic Cheese Wheel Pasta, a dish as theatrical as it is delicious.
While diners flock for photos and indulgence, few realise just how special the wheel itself is. Weighing in at a generous 50kg, the cheese is a 24-month aged Parmigiano Reggiano from the protected PDO region of Parma-Reggio, Italy, the only place in the world where authentic Parmigiano Reggiano can be made.
This is the birthplace of Pasta alla Ruota - pasta tossed hot and fast inside the cheese wheel, where the heat melts the surface to form a creamy, flavourful sauce. It’s simple, but when executed with the care and flair of Executive Chef Shaun Dowling, it becomes extraordinary.
“Who doesn’t love cheese and pasta? There’s nothing complicated here, no foams, no fusions, just traditional and the joy of cooking with quality ingredients,” says Dowling. “Our open kitchen brings guests right into the experience and watching your pasta spun through molten cheese is unforgettable.”
Originally a special, the dish has become a permanent feature and just in time for truffle season, where guests can opt to shave fresh truffle over the top for even more indulgence.
It is by far their most popular dish with one cheese wheel only lasting three weeks.
Whether it’s a date night, birthday or a midweek treat, Bossi’s cheese wheel experience is the perfect expression of Italian comfort, joy, and culinary theatre. Bossi is the first restaurant in New Zealand to make it a permanent menu staple and once you try it, you’ll understand why

When fashion and furniture collide, magic happens and the Stella McCartney x B&B Italia collaboration is pure enchantment. Matisse is proud to present this exclusive capsule collection, a bold and thoughtful fusion of couture creativity and iconic Italian design. At its heart is the reimagining of Mario Bellini’s beloved Le Bambole armchair, first introduced in the 1970s and now reinterpreted through McCartney’s signature sustainable vision.
Marking the chair’s 50th anniversary, this limited-edition piece brings a new chapter to a design classic. Upholstered in McCartney’s hand-drawn Fungi Forest print, first seen in her Spring/Summer 2022 collection, the armchair transforms into a whimsical, sculptural celebration of nature’s intelligence and beauty. Each piece is created with crueltyfree and recycled materials, marrying aesthetic innovation with eco-conscious integrity.
Le Bambole has long been lauded for its soft, voluminous form and inviting silhouette. Designed without rigid supports, it offers exceptional comfort and organic beauty. Now, with Stella McCartney’s creative touch, the armchair takes on a new identity, fashion-forward, bold, and collectable, offering not just a place to sit but a story to tell.
The full Le Bambole collection, which includes the Bambola, Bibambola, Granbambola, and Bamboletto, continues to evolve.

1. Plan for Function and Flow
Before choosing tiles or fixtures, map out your bathroom layout to optimise space and functionality. Consider how you use the room daily, do you need more storage? A larger shower? Good design starts with smart planning.
2. Invest in a Smart Toilet
Upgrade your bathroom experience with a smart toilet. Features like heated seats, built-in bidets, self-cleaning functions, and even ambient lighting bring comfort and hygiene to a whole new level. It’s a modern luxury that’s surprisingly practical.
3. Choose Timeless Finishes
Select tiles, tapware and cabinetry in neutral or classic tones that won’t date quickly. While trends come and go, a timeless base allows you to refresh the look with accessories rather than major renovations.
4. Prioritise Lighting
Natural light is ideal, but if windows are limited, layer your lighting. Use a combination of overhead lights, wall sconces and mirror lighting to create a bright, welcoming space that’s also functional for grooming.
5. Don’t Forget Ventilation
Proper airflow prevents mould and extends the life of your bathroom. Invest in a quality extractor fan, especially in high-humidity areas, to keep your space fresh, dry, and healthy.
6. Add Personality
Add your personality warmth and character through artwork, indoor plants, plush towels, or statement mirrors. Scented candles, trays, and textures like timber or stone can turn a functional space into a sanctuary that reflects your personality and makes every day feel a little more luxurious.
SMART TECHNOLOGY FOR COMPLETE CLEANLINESS A revolutionary advancement in bathroom hygiene, merging modern technology with user comfort. E-BIDET
The bidet’s design features temperature control for both water and seat, plus customizable rear and front cleansing options, with features like shower oscillation and pulsating massage –adjustable with a simple turn of the dial.

“I really didn’t think it was a heart attack. I guess that’s why they call it the ‘silent killer’.”
– Raewyn, heart attack survivor
Raewyn’s heart attack struck right in the middle of doing something she loved. On paper, she would be one of the last people you’d expect to have a horrifying heart event. She knew, even before her attack, just how important it was to look after her heart.
But the sad truth is: this happens to far too many women, all over New Zealand. One minute they’re enjoying their life, and the next it is upturned –or worse, lost altogether.
Heart disease is still the single leading cause of death of Kiwi women. And without the kind support of the New Zealand public, it could continue to take precious lives.
Raewyn had a horrifying experience out on the water when a routine swim became a battle for her life. After gratefully receiving the help of two paddleboarders, her heart event led to a hospital stay.
“I’m not allowed to go out into the deep ocean to swim anymore,” she says. “At least, not until they give me the all-clear. I don’t know if they ever will. I really love swimming and I love the ocean, so it’s taken a bit of adjusting to.”
Raewyn wants to stress that heart attacks can be a silent killer. As she personally encountered, the common warning signs are not always present, and everyone’s experience varies. Getting a heart check-up early can save your life.
“I was 58 when I had my heart attack out on the water,” she says. “And so much could have gone wrong that day but it didn’t. Now I’m keen to make the mos t of my second chance at life.”
The Heart Foundation invests around $4 million every year in life-saving heart research, in hopes of discovering the next big breakthrough. The more research funded, the better that heart disease can be diagnosed, treated, and prevented – stopping families from losing their loved ones too soon.
Dr Devlin says through the Heart Foundation’s membership of the Global Cardiovascular Research Funders Forum (GCRFF), we are currently exploring the most urgent research needs for women’s cardiovascular health which will inform an exciting international research opportunity.
You can help play a role in the fight against heart disease today with a kind gift or by purchasing a Heart Foundation Lottery ticket. Your kindness can go towards vital heart research, specialist training for cardiologists and community programmes that help keep Kiwi hearts healthy.

Hyundai Santa Fe Named Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year
The Hyundai Santa Fe has been crowned the Supreme Winner of the Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year 2025, chosen by 82 female motoring journalists from 55 countries. The competition included 81 contenders across categories such as Urban Car (MINI Cooper), Compact SUV (KIA EV3), Large Car (Audi A6 e-tron), Large SUV (Hyundai Santa Fe), 4x4 (Toyota Land Cruiser), and Performance Car (Porsche Panamera).
Praised for its bold design, hybrid efficiency, and premium comfort, the Santa Fe impressed judges worldwide. “It’s a dramatic evolution in the SUV segment,” noted Egypt’s Shahinaz Hussein. Canada’s Petrina Gentile highlighted its safety after surviving a transport truck collision.
Founded in 2009 Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year amplifies female voices in the automotive world while recognising the industry’s best.
There was a time when the roar of a petrol engine defined what it meant to drive something powerful. Fast forward to 2025, and while those mighty machines still have their place, the conversation has shifted. Today, it’s not just about power, it’s about purpose.
Electric vehicles (EVs) are no longer the quiet underdogs. With instant torque, sleek design, and zero tailpipe emissions, they’re proving that mindful motoring can be every bit as mighty. Take a spin in a top-tier EV and you’ll feel the surge of acceleration that rivals many petrol-powered performance cars without the fuel bill or the guilt.
But going electric isn’t just about performance. It’s about driving smarter. Think regenerative braking, intelligent navigation, and home charging. You’re not just behind the wheel you’re part of a smarter, cleaner future.
Still, there’s a place for the petrol car lover. The growl of a V8, the feel of the gearbox, some things are hard to replace.
But even the most loyal petrolheads are starting to notice: electric doesn’t mean compromise. It means choice.
In 2025, motoring is evolving. Whether you’re in it for the thrill, the tech, or the planet there’s a mighty way to drive mindfully!
At Kia EV Day 2025 in Spain, Kia unveiled the EV4 sedan/hatchback and Concept EV2 B-segment SUV, expanding its core electric range. The EV4 features bold design, cuttingedge tech, and a 630km range (WLTP) from an 81.4kWh battery. With a 150kW motor, it sprints 0–100km/h in 7.4 seconds and charges 10–80% in 31 minutes. Versatile and aerodynamic (0.23 Cd), it supports V2L and V2G tech. The Concept EV2 previews a future urban SUV. Kia’s latest EVs promise innovation, practicality, and accessibility, accelerating the shift t o electric mobility.
