ombining Maori roots and European edge to create a modern Aotearoan sound for the world, Riqi Harawira has a sound like no other. Through a unique combination of acoustic guitar, vocals,Tibetan throat singing and a number of traditional instruments (including the koaue aue (Maori flute), pu moana (Maori conch shell), and the didgeridoo), Riqi creates a tribal pop sound, blending Maori waiata with pop, funk and reggae form. Previously the lead guitarist for New Zealand rock band Dead Flowers, Riqi first went solo with the release of his 2012 version
 of `Gutter Black’ featuring Dave McArtney and Sir T. Following closely on the heels of this release Riqi released his first original single ‘Greenstone and Gold’; a magical song that truly captures the essence of being a Kiwi. In addition to creating sweet and soulful music for your listening pleasure, Riqi is also a passionate campaigner for Kiwi youth.
Along with Amanda Billing,Ben Mitchell,Tiki Taane and Jay Bulletproof, Riqi is an ambassador for Y for Youth, a charity aiming to create sustainable funding to help, support, inspire and mentor the youth of today. Furthermore, Riqi has been a keen advocate against sexual violence, seen most prevalently in his involvement with Men Against Sexual Violence (MASSIVE) Hikoi. A 440 km walk from The Auckland harbour bridge to Cape Reinga,for which he provided entertainment over 17 days led by Labour MP Kelvin Davis. Now, Riqi has released another single, sure to be a Kiwi summer favourite. ‘Goddess’, a tribute to women as divine feminine spirit and is a gift to the ‘Its not ok’ campaign raising awareness around domestic violence in NZ. ’Goddess’ will be played during Riqi’s new concert series,‘Melody in Merlot’. This live matinee will showcase

‘Goddess’ and Riqi’s back catalogue of originals at wineries and boutique venues across the country. Be sure to attend one of Riqi’s performances at ‘Melody in Merlot’ for a relaxing enjoyable afternoon listening to a selection of Riqi’s finest melodies, with stories, tales and humour in an inviting inclusive environment, suitable for all ages. On the back of this series, Riqi will be releasing his new album, Sound of the Long White Cloud, in late January 2016.
