Business description: Founded in 1958 in downtown Madison, UW Provision began as a Ma & Pop’s meat market established by the late Jim Kalscheur. The business thrived on exceptional customer service, catering to local families and neighbors.

Over the years, under the leadership of Steve Kalscheur, Jim’s son, UW Provision Co. was relocated to Middleton. The company has strategically grown into one of the largest and most comprehensive providers of fresh and frozen products in the Midwest. What makes you stand out from the

competition? Community connections, We will never be the place that will utilize a selfcheckout system. We pride ourselves on the relationships that we have established generation after generation and the new ones that appear daily. Through these connections is how UWP has grown into what we are today. From a one man butcher shop into a state-ofthe-art, 100,000-square-foot USDA-inspected facility and runs two retail stores, serving both

as a wholesale supplier and a retail producer. What brings customers back to your business? Customer Service- The “Hi” “Hello’s” how can we assist you today”- We want to help any way we can, welcome our customers in with a smile, and help put your goods in your car if needed. UWP will never say no to a customer request and will go the extra mile to get our customers the products they need. With over 2,200 di erent items, including a complete line of fresh and frozen beef, pork, lamb, veal, poultry, seafood, sausage, wild game, and precooked products, UW Provision is known for competitive prices, reliability,

and outstanding customer service—key attributes that have driven its enduring success. What makes your business a good place to work? Team building, positive work environment. We have found building a team that enjoys working together can make all the difference. Our management teams works hard to improve job satisfaction. We have found that this increases productivity and motivates others in the workplace. Laughter and supporting other co-workers truly are the standards of the “UWP-Way”.

What do you love most about having your business in this community? UW Provision looks at everyone who shops with us as a Neighbor. We are so thankful that so many inside and outside of the community choose UWP as their Meat Market.

What does it mean to be voted Madison. com’s People’s Choice? It truly is a proud moment. The foundation of what this company was built on in 1958 is still going strong. Folks often stop in and say, you probably won’t have this...but we do. We care for all who stop here.

What makes you stand out from the competition? That is easy: we have a family feeling here. We try to go above and

beyond to help every person who takes a chance on us. We support many local organizations, we help lots of local widows with a variety of tasks. We are committed to supporting youth by giving them their first job experience. We hire folks with special needs to be a part of our team. What brings customers back to your business? I think customers come back because we have the knowledge to help with many things. We stop and listen to what folks need and search until we can find a solution to their problems. Sometimes that means sending them down the road to a place that o ers what they need. We have done many special orders for customers. Because we are a small store in a small community we carry things that only one or two people buy so they don’t have to drive out of town to get what they need. We try to have customers leave feeling heard and maybe even with a smile on their face. We do have a great selection of stock that helps in many situations.

What makes your business a good place to work? I think we are a good place to work for a few reasons: There is a fun, caring, family feeling. We work as a team. It is okay to make a mistake. I try to train sta to learn more and get better and the many tasks we ask them to do. Our goal is to empower all of our employees to do what they do best.

What do you love most about having your business in this community? We are actually in Mazomanie, not Madison. Folks trust us. We care about our neighbors. We form connections with the people who choose to shop with us. Once a gentleman came into the store feeling lost. His wife had died the night before and he felt comfortable with us.

age an environment full of camaraderie and laughter. We strive to inspire our patients and our team members to live a healthy life. What do you love most about having your business in this community? I grew up in the Madison area my whole life and after all my education I knew I wanted to come back to this community. With its diversity in sports, professions, activities and more, there is endless support chiropractic can give to this community. We work with other healthcare providers to co-manage, educate and assist our patients in this community to love a healthy, pain-free life.

What does it mean to be voted Madison. com’s People’s Choice? It is truly an honor to be nominated and win the People’s Choice Best Chiropractor award. This community continues to grow every year and to know I’m able to help many individuals live a healthier life with less pain everyday, makes me enjoy and appreciate what I do for this community. I always tell my patients that I love being a chiropractor and it never feels like work when I’m treating patients.

We talked with him and cried with him and hugged him for over 2 hours. We have dogs that are in the store that belong to employees. We are the place to stop for help in our small town. We give back in more ways than I can name. I always think back to the TV show Cheers where people know you by name. What does it mean to be voted Madison. com’s People’s Choice? I was not sure I could do anything after winning the Beacon Award. This tops the charts for me. I feel the support of my community that I have been working with for 15 years. It reminds me that what I do really does touch others’ lives. My hope is that they feel supported by us as well. In a world of filled with hate, we try to be a place filled with laughter and caring.
