Marina es uno de esos diamantes del deporte que han dado estas islas Canarias al mundo. Criada en la Playa de Las Canteras (Playa Chica), desde los 7 añitos ya jugueteaba entre las espumas con sus hermanos y su pandilla de la infancia (Fátima, Hati…), preparando lo que sería el futuro de la cantera canaria de bodyboard. M: ¿Cuándo te diste cuenta de que estabas hecha para el bodyboard? Marina: De pequeña surfeaba enfrente de casa, en Los Lisos, y era muy divertido. Con 9 años, ya mis amigos y la gente del barrio me animaban a que compitiera en La Cícer, porque me veían con talento, a pesar de mi corta edad y de ser chica, que por aquel entonces era algo muy raro. M: ¿Qué modalidad practicas? Marina: Me apasiona el dropknee (DK). He sido elegida la mejor chica de todos los tiempos en la práctica de esta modalidad, lo que me llena de orgullo, a la vez que me divierte. M: ¿Cómo es este mundo para una chica? Marina: La cosa ha cambiado mucho. Ahora está de moda y ya todas las chicas se atreven con estos deportes de riesgo. Cuando yo comencé, la cosa era bien distinta, pero siempre me sentí muy apoyada. M: ¿Qué es lo que más te apasiona de este deporte? Marina: De este deporte me apasiona todo, desde la libertad y la independencia que adquieres, ya que estás siempre en contacto con la naturaleza, hasta todos los viajes y lugares del mundo que he tenido la oportunidad de conocer, el estilo de vida... M: La ola más potente que has cogido… Marina: El Frontón y Pipeline, ¡sin duda!
M: Cuéntanos los títulos más importantes que has cosechado. Marina: Fui campeona mundial en 2006; he participado en dos subcampeonatos del mundo; he sido campeona de Europa 6 veces, y elegida medalla de oro de las Palmas de Gran Canaria, en reconocimiento a toda mi trayectoria. M: ¿Qué competiciones futuras tienes a la vista? Marina: En Septiembre tengo pensado asistir al Mundial de Sintra Pro, en Portugal. ¡Con muchas ganas! M: ¿Qué opinas del mundo de la competición? Marina: Creo que, cuando te quieres dedicar profesionalmente a un deporte, la competición siempre forma parte de él. Es una manera de demostrarle al mundo tu potencial como rider. M: ¿A qué te dedicas en la actualidad? Marina: En la actualidad, aparte de seguir surfeando y entrenando, estoy volcada de pleno con mi escuela Marina Taylor Surf School, en el Hotel Arena Beach. Con mucha ilusión y ganas, estoy aquí, en Fuerteventura, encantada con este proyecto, ya que es lo que me gusta, poder trasladar a los que se inician mis conocimientos en este maravilloso mundo del surf y del bodyboard. Brought up in the beach of «Las Canteras» («Playa Chica») she has played with small waves since she was 7, together with her brothers and her childhood gang (Fátima, Hati…), preparing wthat would become the bodyboard team of The Canary Islands. M: When did you realise that you were meant for bodyboard? Marina: When I was a child I used to surf opposite my home, in «Los Lisos», and it was very funny. At the age of 9 my friends and people in my neighbourhood encouraged me to take part in «La Cícer» because they thought I had a talent for it. In spite of my early age and of being a girl, which was strange by then. M: Which modality do you practise? Marina: I love dropknee (DK). I’ve been chosen the best of all times in the practise of that modality, which makes me feel proud apart from amused. M: What is this world like for a girl? Marina: Things have changed a lot. Now it is fashionable and lots of girls dare to practise high risk sports. When I started things were different, but I always felt really supported. M: What is it that you love the most of this sport? Marina: I love everything related to it, from the freedom and independence you acquire, as you are always in touch with nature, to all the trips and places in the world I’ve had
the opportunity to meet, the life style... M: The most powerful wave you have caught… Marina: El Frontón and The Pipeline, no doubt! M: Tell us what the most important titles you have got are. Marina: I was World champion in 2006; I’ve taken part in two world subchampionships; I have been a European champion for six times, and I’ve also got a golden medal in Palmas de Gran Canaria, as acknowledgement for all my career. M: Which future competitions do you have in sight? Marina: In September I want to take part in The Sintra Pro world championship, in Portugal. I am already looking forward to it! M: What do you think about the world of competition? Marina: I think that when you want to devote professionally to a sport, competition always takes part of it. It’s a way of showing the world your potential as a rider. M: What do you do nowadays? Marina: Now, apart from going on surfing and training I am totally devoted to my School, Marina Taylor Surf School, at Arena Beach Hotel. I am here in Fuerteventura very excited and eager, delighted about this project, as this is what I love the most, being able to pass down my knowledge to all those who start in this wonderful world of surf and bodyboard. refugiadAs DE Katsikas en Grecia
Hace tan solo un mes, una parte del equipo de Macaronesia viajó a Grecia, para hacer voluntariado en un campo de refugiados de la guerra de Siria. Aquí os dejamos las impresiones de una experiencia cargada de emociones y de realidad. Probablemente estamos ante la mayor crisis humanitaria de nuestro tiempo, a la que el Estado Europa no está respondiendo con la humanidad que suponen los derechos que establece. El 19 de marzo, 20 autobuses cargados de refugiados llegaron a las afueras de Katsikas. La mayoría de estas personas acababan de llegar a Grecia vía Lesbos o Chios, a través de un duro viaje por el que todos tuvieron que pagar en varias ocasiones a la mafia, entre 800€, los más afortunados, y unos 4000€, los menos. Un viaje por el que se jugaban la vida para atravesar la frontera de Siria con Turquía, por el temor al Daesh, a la policía turca y a la falta de comida y protección en el camino. Una vez en Turquía viajaron a la costa para jugarse de nuevo la vida en el mar, subiendo a botes abarrotados de gente y en malísimas condiciones, oyendo los disparos de la policía turca cuando zarpaban, con los chalecos salvavidas rotos y, sobre todo, cargados de niños y mujeres que no esperaban este viaje, y que menos esperaban quedarse varados en un campo de refugiados, donde las condiciones de vida distan mucho de aquello a lo que están acostumbrados. La policía griega intentaba que todos los refugiados se bajaran de los autobuses, para instalarlos en este solar que daría origen al campo de Refugiados de Katsikas; al ver la rudeza de la policía, no querían bajar, así estuvieron horas, temerosos de lo que les esperaba.
Finalmente los refugiados cedieron. 1200 personas, entre ellas 500 niños, formaron este campo militarizado, que no es más que un solar que los militares cubrieron de piedras, para evitar el fango que se forma con la habitual lluvia de la zona. Piedras que hacen muy incomoda la vida, sobre todo a los niños. Tres ONGs operan en este campo para dar un poco de luz e intentar ofrecer los servicios mínimos a todas estas personas que huyen del terror de una guerra, o de zonas económicamente devastadas, precisamente por la guerra. La ONG Olvidados, AIRE y Lighthouse Relief, además de voluntarios independientes de larga y corta temporada. En tiendas de campaña dispuestas sobre ese pedregal, viven unas 300 familias que emprendieron el viaje para huir de la muerte o la miseria, y en Katsikas se calentaron del frío de
Lo peor de Katsikas es la falta de información. Las autoridades griegas aún no han habilitado un servicio para explicar a estas personas cómo deben solicitar el asilo, los países a los que podrán solicitarlo y si realmente podrán pedirlo. Todos, o la inmensa mayoría, tienen ya familia en Europa, sobre todo en Alemania y Suecia, pero no saben si podrán encontrarse con ellos. Muchos piensan que quizá hubiera sido mejor quedarse en casa, a pesar de la guerra, e incluso se plantean hacer el viaje de vuelta, a pesar de los peligros que ello conlleva. Otros, los más impacientes, los que viajan sin hijos, se tiran a las montañas para intentar cruzar fronteras a pie, hasta llegar a Alemania, o pagan a la mafia más dinero para que les abran un camino hasta reencontrarse con los suyos, en algún país de Europa en el que algún día puedan trabajar.
LAS FRONTERAS, dejarles reencontrarse con los suyos y ofrecerles opciones de asilo, dignas para que aprendan el idioma del país de destino y, en pocos meses, estarán integrados en el mercado laboral, pues todos, como tú y como yo, tienen su profesión, sus estudios, sus sueños y su necesidad de seguir adelante, de tener una opción de vida digna. Es un placer entrar en sus jaimas a tomar un té o un café, te cuentan de sus hijos en Europa, de sus nietos, de los que dejaron en Siria... Te enseñan las casas que tenían, te hablan de sus jardines, de lo bonito que era Damasco, te hablan de lo duro de los últimos años, de los familiares que han perdido, de las ganas que tienen de ver a los suyos y dejar todo atrás... Y tú no puedes prometerles nada, no puedes asegurarles nada, solo puedes decirles que vendrán más voluntarios, sobre todo
la zona a su llegada, quemando cualquier cosa en fogatas improvisadas delante de las tiendas. Ahora es el calor el que aprieta, temperaturas altas que malamente se soportan en una tienda de campaña. Las grandes ONGs cuentan con jaima en el campo, con su logotipo bien grande, pero no se les ve demasiado. Sólo Médicos sin Fronteras abre a diario su tienda, para atender a los enfermos en la medida de lo posible. En el día a día del campo ves cómo las mujeres intentan llevar una vida normal: limpiar sus jaimas con escobas improvisadas, lavar sus ropas en baldes en el suelo, cocinar en fogatas improvisadas, si tienen la posibilidad de comprar algo de comida. No todos cuentan ya con algo de dinero, son muchos años de conflicto y se han visto económicamente muy mermados. La comida que reciben de los militares no cubre las necesidades nutricionales básicas... Se aferran a las tareas de la vida cotidiana, unas más tapadas, otras menos tapadas, todas te sonríen y te invitan a pasar a sus jaimas.
Los niños y las mujeres que viajan solos, sin hombre adulto que los acompañe, constituyen otro gran riesgo. Son muy vulnerables, nadie los protege, ¿que será de ellos? Cuando emprendieron el viaje no esperaban esto, no sabían que se iban a quedar sin opción, que se quedarían en un campo de refugiados, en un país donde ni siquiera hay trabajo para los griegos. Aman su tierra y les entristece pensar que no hay fin para la guerra y que sus vidas allí están acabadas, que sus casas han desaparecido, que la muerte es el día a día de casi toda Siria. No entienden que Europa les frene, que cierre sus fronteras, pues por cultura son muy generosos, te abren las puertas de sus jaimas y te ofrecen, sin opción a decir que no, lo poco que tienen. La ayuda que ofrecemos a través de ONGs y voluntarios es imprescindible a día de hoy para ellos, pero no es suficiente, pues no es una solución, es un mal remiendo: niños mal alimentados, mucho calor, malas condiciones higiénicas... La solución rápida, y seguramente menos costosa a la larga, la más ética, es ABRIR
españoles, y que estarán allí para ellos. No puedo, no tengo la capacidad, para ponerme en su lugar, a pesar de haber pasado tiempo en sus jaimas, a pesar de sentirme acogida y a gusto entre ellos. No puedo imaginar a mi madre lavando la ropa en el suelo, cocinando en un bote de pintura, quemadísimo por el uso, en una fogata delante de la jaima; no imagino a mi padre haciendo colas para conseguir un plato de comida de muy mala calidad, y viviendo en una tienda de campaña. ¿Tú puedes? De esta experiencia me llevo grandes amigos, refugiados a los que un día espero ver libremente en Europa, disfrutando de los mismos derechos que yo, ¡todos somos humanos! Una mención especial para Abubrahim, Yamilla, Hasan, Nehad, Jashmine, Rahim… Actualmente hay más de 50.000 migrantes y refugiados repartidos por todo el territorio griego, la mayoría a día de hoy en campos militarizados. Se calcula que el 60% son niños. El 70% de los voluntarios con los que me encontré son españoles.
Refugee Camp in Katsikas, Greece Just one month ago, part of Macaronesia Team travelled to Greece, volunteering in a refugee camp from Siria War. Here we leave the impressions of an experience loaded with emotions and reality. We are probably facing the biggest humanitarian crisis of our time, to which Europe isn’t answering with the humanity that rights are supposed to set forth. On March 19th, 20 buses carrying refugees got to Katsikas outskirts. Most of these people arrived in Greece through Lebos or Chios, after a hard journey for which all of them had to pay the Mafia between 800€ (the luckiest) and 4000€ (the less fortunate) on several occasions. One journey where they were risking their lives to cross the border of Siria and Turquia out of fear of the Daesh, the Turkish police, and of lack of food and protection in the journey. Once in Turkey they travelled to the coast to risk their lives again in the sea, getting on boats crowded with people and in very poor conditions, hearing the shots of the Turkish police as they were sailing away, wearing torn life vests and, most of all, carrying children and women who weren’t expecting that trip, let alone getting stuck in a refugee camp, where life conditions are far from being the ones they were used to. The Greek police were making all the refugees get off the bus to keep them in this plot that would give origin to the refugee camp of Katsikas; In seeing the rudeness of the police they refused to get off and that way the spent hours, fearful of what was awaiting them. Finally, the refugees gave in. 1200 people, 500 children among them, made up this militarised camp which isn’t but a plot that the military covered with stones, to avoid the mud formed by the usual rain of the area. These stones make life very uncomfortable mainly for children. Three NGOs operate in this camp to help a bit and offer minimum services to all these people fleeing the fear of a war or economically devastated areas because of the war: The NGO «Olvidados», «Aire» and «Lighthouse Relief», apart from short and long term independent volunteers. 300 families, who embarked on this journey fleeing death and misery, live in tents set on this stony ground, and in Katsikas they warmed when they arrived, burning anything in high bonfires in front of their tents. Now the temperatures climb, making it so hot that it is hardly bearable inside a tent. Well-known NGOs have big tops with their nice and wide logos on them, but very often they aren’t open. Just Doctors without Borders open their big top daily, to assist patients as far as possible. In the day-to-day of the camp you can see how the women try to lead a normal life: cleaning their tents with improvised brushes, washing their clothes in buckets on the ground, cooking on improvised fires, if they have the chance to buy some food…. Not all of them have money. They have been in conflict for a long time and they have seen their funding very reduced. The food they receive form the military doesn’t meet the basic food needs… they stick to their daily life tasks, more or less hidden, all of them smile and invite you to their tents. The worst thing in Katsikas is the lack of information. The Greek authorities haven’t enabled any service yet to explain these people how they must apply for asylum, the countries to where
they can apply and if they will really be able to apply for it. All of them, or at least most of them, have already a family in Europe, mainly in Germany and Sweden, but they don’t know if they’ll be able to meet them. Many of them think that maybe it would have been better to stay home, in spite of the war, and they even think of making the trip back home, in spite of the danger this entails. Some others, the most impatient ones, those who travel without children, hike the mountains trying to cross the borders on foot, until they reach Germany, or they pay more to the Mafia for an open way to meet their families in some country in Europe where they’ll be able to work one day. The children and women travelling on their own, without an adult male going with them, entail another danger. They are very vulnerable, nobody protects them, what will it become of them? When they first embarked on this journey they weren’t expecting this, they didn’t know they would have no choice, that they would have to stay in a refugee camp in a country where they don’t even have jobs for Greek people. They love their land and it makes them sad to think that there is no end for the war, that their lives there are over, that their homes have disappeared, that death is the day-to-day life of almost the whole of Siria. They don’t understand Europe stopping them, their closing boundaries, as by culture they are very generous: they open the door of their tents and offer you, without giving you option to refuse, the few things they have. The help we offer through NGOs and volunteers is essential for them nowadays, but it isn’t enough, as this isn’t a solution, it’s just a badly patched solution: malnourished children, high temperatures, poor hygiene conditions. The quick solution and, probably, the cheapest one in the long run. The most ethic one is to open borders, to let them meet their families and offer them a decent asylum so they can learn the language of the destination country and in few months they can be integrated in the labour market, as all of them, like you and me, have their profession, their studies, their dreams and their need to go on, of having a decent quality of life. It’s a real pleasure to enter their tents to have a tea or coffee, to hear about their children in Europe, their grandchildren, the ones who remained in Siria…. They show you the houses they had, they talk about their gardens, of how beautiful Damasco was, of how hard the last years have been, of the relatives they have lost.. of how looking forward they are to meeting their families and leave everything behind… and you can’t promise them anything, you can’t assure anything, you can’t tell them that more volunteers will come, mainly Spanish ones, who will be there for them. I can’t, I don’t have the ability to put myself in their shoes, in spite of having spent time in their tents, in spite of having been welcomed and feeling at ease among them. I can’t imagine my mother washing clothes on the ground, cooking on a paint pot, really burnt after so much use, on a fire in front of their tents; I can’t imagine my father queueing to get a really bad quality dish of food and living in a tent, can you? I have made great friends with this experience, refugees I hope to see free in Europe one day, accepted and integrated, enjoying the same rights as me. We are all human!!! A special mention for Abubrahim Yamilla, Hasan, Nehad, Jashmine, Rahim... Nowadays there are 50.000 migrants and refugees scattered throughout the Greek territory, most of them in militarized camps. 60% out of them are estimated to be children. The 70% of the volunteers I met are Spanish.

El faro ha sido siempre un elemento fundamental para la vida de los hombres, les ha permitido evolucionar y avanzar hacia nuevos descubrimientos, e incluso hoy en día sigue siendo un gran referente para los navegantes. Si para muchos son conocidos el Faro de Alejandría, el Coloso o la Torre de Hércules, aquí en Canarias hay uno que destaca especialmente, el Faro de Martiño, o también conocido como el Faro del islote de Lobos. Destaca por muchas cosas. Por la lentitud con la que fue construido, se tardaron cinco años, debido a las numerosas dificultades que fueron surgiendo, como, por ejemplo, el transporte de los materiales de construcción, que vino efectuado primero a lomos de camellos, más tarde en barquitos y, por último, en burros majoreros que fueron encontrados en la propia isla de Lobos. O, por la total naturaleza de la isla, que se encontraba completamente deshabitada y, por tanto, tuvieron que ir construyendo casas, aljibes subterráneos, caminos y corrales, para que los ingenieros, los obreros y demás trabajadores tuvieran un sitio donde vivir en el islote de Lobos, mientras perdurara el período de la construcción del faro. El Faro de Martiño se empezó a construir en 1860, tras ser aprobado el Plan General para el alumbrado de las Islas Canarias. Tiene un gran parecido con los faros de Pechiguera y de la Isla Alegranza, de Lanzarote, debido a que los tres fueron proyectados por el mismo ingeniero, el afamado Juan León y Castillo, nacido en Gran Canaria. El resultado final de tanto trabajo fue el de un faro de estilo neoclásico, de colores blancos y amarillos, que se alza 29 metros sobre el nivel del mar. A la torre cilindro-cónica del faro, que mide 6 metros de altura, se adosa un edificio de una planta, el cual fue primeramente la residencia ocasional de Juan León y Castillo, para cuando iba al .12
islote de Lobos a supervisar el proyecto, y más tarde la casa del farero y su familia. También se construyó un aljibe para el propio faro, que estaba situado debajo de la construcción y recogía el agua de la lluvia proveniente de la azotea, para asegurar el suministro de agua. El faro se iluminó por vez primera en 1865, siendo de 6º orden y estando registrado en las cartas marítimas con el número internacional D-2786. Cumple la importante función de balizar el paso de los navíos que navegan por el estrecho de
la Bocaina, que es el que separa Fuerteventura y Lanzarote, formando un triangulo junto con el faro de Tostón, situado en el Cotillo, Fuerteventura, y el faro de Pechiguera, en Lanzarote. Con el islote de Lobos, y con el Faro de Martiño, más concretamente, están relacionadas diversas personalidades, entre las que destacan escritores como Josefina Plá, que siendo hija del torrero, Leopoldo Plá, nació en 1903 y se crió ahí, en el mismo faro —aunque más tarde desarrollaría su carrera en Paraguay—, o José Rial, que fue el farero de Lobos desde 1913 y que trece años después escribiría una

Otra persona reconocida fue Antonio Hernández Páez, más conocido como Antoñito «el farero», que fue de hecho el último en realizar esa labor, desde el año 1936 hasta el 68, y el último en habitar en el islote. Antoñito también abrió un restaurante típico, que ahora gestionan sus descendientes. Es muy recomendable ir a visitar el islote de Lobos y su faro, por toda la historia que tiene este y por el encanto natural de la isla. Además, el visitante que suba al Faro de Martiño disfrutará de unas impresionantes vistas.
The lighthouse has always been an essential element for men’s life, has allowed them to develop and make progress towards new discoveries, even nowadays it keeps being a great reference point for sailors. If many people know Alexandria Lighthouse, The Colossus or The Tower of Hercules, here in The Canary Islands there is one lighthouse which stands out particularly: Martiño’s Lighthouse, also known as Lobo’s lighthouse. It stands out for many reasons: how long it took to build it, five years, due to several difficulties that arose, such as the transport of building materials carried first by camels, then by ships and in the third place by indigenous donkeys found in the very islet of Lobos; or maybe because of the nature of the islet, totally uninhabited, reason why they also had to build houses, underground cisterns, paths and yards so that the engineers, builders and the rest of workers could live for as long
as the lighthouse works lasted. Martiño’s Lighthouse started to be built in 1860, after the General Lighting Plan for the Canary Island was passed. It very much looks like the lighthouses in Pechiguera and the island of Alegranza, in Lanzarote, because the three of them were planned by the same engineer, the renowned Juan León y Castillo, born in Gran Canaria. The final outcome was a white and yellow neoclassical lighthouse 29m above sea-level. Besides the cylindrical-conical tower of the lighthouse, which is 6m. high, there is a one-storey building attached, which at the beginning was Juan León y Castillo’s occasional residence, when he visited the islet to supervise the project and later on it would be the lighthouse-keeper and his family’s residence. A cistern for
the lighthouse itself was also built, located under the lighthouse, and it stored rainwater coming from the rooftop terrace to ensure water supply. The lighthouse was first lit in 1865, a sixth class lighthouse registered in nautical charts with the international number D-2786. The main function it fulfils is that of lighting with beacons the passage of vessels through the Bocaina Strait separating Fuerteventura from Lanzarote, and forming a triangle with Tostón Lighthouse in El Cotillo and Pechiguera lighthouse in Lanzarote. With Lobos and its Martiño’s Lighthouse more specifically several personalities are related, among them writers like Josefina Plá, daughter of the lighthouse keeper Leopoldo Plá, who was born in 1903 and was brought up
in the very lighthouse although later on she would develop her career in Paraguay. Or José Rial, who was a lighthouse keeper in Lobos since 1913 and thirteen years later he would write a novel about the island and his experiences there. Another renowned person was Antonio Hernández Páez, also known as Antoñito «the lighthouse keeper», who actually was the last one to develop this task from the year 1936 until 1968, and also the last one to inhabit this islet. Antoñito also set up a typical restaurant there, at present run by his descendants. It’s highly recommendable to visit Lobos and its lighthouse because of its history and the natural charm of the islet. Moreover, the visitor who climbs up Martiño’s lighthouse will enjoy breathtaking views.

Les entrevistamos para conocer más a fondo esta nueva filosofía de construcción. Macaronesia: ¿Qué es la bioconstrucción? Bioconstruye Canarias: Es una forma de construir que busca minimizar el impacto ambiental, utilizando materiales poco elaborados, que provienen directamente de la naturaleza, y generando un equilibrio entre la vivienda y sus moradores, que responda al principio de responsabilidad que tenemos hacia las generaciones futuras, de conservar el planeta sin explotarlo a toda costa. Es como un retorno a los sistemas y técnicas constructivas tradicionales, pero aplicados con los conocimientos técnicos constructivos actuales y respondiendo a las demandas de confort modernas. Al mismo tiempo, también se aprovecha el entorno, tanto para la ubicación y orientación correctas de las viviendas, como para aplicar sistemas energéticos y de gestión de residuos sostenibles. M: ¿Qué beneficios representa, frente a la construcción convencional? BC: Ante todo representa un ahorro energético considerable, al utilizar aislamientos mucho más eficientes, tanto para el frío como para el calor (el corcho y los revestimientos de cal). Requiere muy poco mantenimiento, debido a los materiales naturales que se utilizan (no hay más que ver las construcciones históricas hechas con piedra, cal y barro, que se conser-

BC: Pretendemos difundir esta nueva filosofía de construcción, mediante la realización de talleres prácticos, conferencias, publicaciones, construcción y rehabilitación de viviendas, además de la venta de materiales de bioconstrucción, proporcionando también asesoramiento técnico para las personas que quieran empezar a utilizar estos materiales.
We interviewed them to learn more about this new philosophy of building. Macaronesia: What is green building? Bioconstruye Canarias: It’s a way of building that seeks to minimize the environmental impact, using minimally processed materials, which come directly from nature, and creating a balance between dwelling and dweller that matches the principle of responsibility we have towards future generations, preserving the planet without exploiting it at all costs. It’s like a return to traditional systems and construction techniques, but applied to current technical knowledge and meeting the current demands of comfort. At the same time, the environment is also used for both the correct location and orientation of homes, and to implement sustainable energy systems and waste management. M: What benefits does it represent, as compared to conventional construction? BC: First of all it represents considerable energy saving, using much more efficient insulation, both for cold and heat (the cork and lime coatings). It requires very little maintenance due to natural materials used (you just need to look at the historical buildings made of stone, lime and mud that have remained over centuries). In addition, a green building is a construction «for life», which protects the health of its dwellers, since natural materials used do not produce VOC (volatile organic compounds, such as synthetic paints), and provide non-toxic heat and water balance to the indoor environment, turning the dwelling into a third layer that perspires. M: What are the main materials used? BC: materials with low environmental impact, recycled, recyclable and easily obtained and clean are used, such as: wood from sustainable forests, lime, stone, ceramics, vegetable ground covers, cork, straw, mud and lime paints. M: Is it much more expensive than conventional building? BC: No, not at all. We speak of a minimal cost increase over conventional building, due to the transport of materials. But as in every case, the more the demand increases the more production there will be and the easier and cheaper the acquisition. M: What do you commit to in Bioconstruye Canarias? BC: We intend to spread this new building philosophy, by conducting workshops, conferences, publications, construction and rehabilitation of dwellings, in addition to the sale of green building materials, also providing technical advice for people who want to start using these materials.

Un queso palmero, elegido Mejor Queso de Canarias 2016 En la pasada edición de Agorcanarias 2016, se otorgaron un total de 27 premios a los quesos Canarios, entre los que el queso Victorino semicurado ahumado, de la DOP (Denominación de Origen Protegida) Queso Palmero, ha conseguido la distinción de Mejor Queso de Canarias 2016. According to some vine-growers, the majorera island has even some century-old vines, but it lacks wine culture, already existing in other places in the Canary Islands. With this association they aim to unify interests of what, it’s estimated, could be more than thirty vine-growers who, year after year, take part in the wine tasting in Fray Andresito festivities, in La Ampuyenta, thus getting good recognition by the Regulating board of Lanzarote.

One «palmero» cheese has been chosen the best cheese in the Canary Islands 2016 In the last Agorcanarias 2016, a total of 27 prizes were given to cheeses from the Canary Islands, Among which the smoked semi-cured Victorino, from «la PDO» (Protected Denomination of Origin) «Queso Palmero»,a cheese from La Palma, has received the distinction of best cheese Canary Islands 2016. BENEFICIOS: Uno de los principales beneficios de esta postura es que expande el tórax, aumentando su volumen y la capacidad respiratoria. Con la práctica asidua, mejora la respiración normal. Asimismo, fortalece la espalda pues tonifica toda la musculatura posterior, incluidos los glúteos, y aumenta la elasticidad de la columna vertebral. Prueba a lograr la plena extensión de la cadera, elevándola hasta la altura de las rodillas. EJECUCIÓN: Comienza tumbado en el suelo, flexiona las piernas acercando los pies a los glúteos y sosteniendo los tobillos con las manos. Mantén las rodillas sin separarlas más allá del ancho de las caderas y las plantas de los pies bien apoyadas sobre el suelo. Inspira lentamente, y eleva la pelvis hasta descargar el peso del cuerpo sobre los hombros, vigilando que haya presión de los brazos sobre el suelo. Con cada inhalación, intensifica la curva de la espalda, elevando aún más la cadera y empujando el abdomen hacia arriba. Mantén la postura, en un principio, cinco respiraciones. BENEFITS: One of the main benefits of this pose is its stretching the thorax, increasing its volume and breathing capacity. Its assiduous practice improves breathing. Likewise, it strengthens the back as it tones all the posterior muscles, including buttock, and it increases the elasticity of the spinal column. Try to reach full extension of the hips, rising them up to your knees. EXECUTION: Start lying on the floor; bend your legs bringing your feet to your buttocks and
grab your ankles with your hands. Separate your knees up to hip width; the plants of your feet must step firmly on the floor. Breath in slowly and raise your pelvis until you let all the burden on your shoulders, watching that there is a pressure of your arms on the floor.
