THE BOYS’ NETWORK

“Having someone that works in business, I find highly relevant to my future, I really enjoyed working with my mentor, and found the sessions very valuable to future success.”
Welcome to The Boys’ Network. Whether you’re from a school or a business, we want to show you how, by working together, we can help improve the landscape of boys in secondary education.
M10 is a North East based charity working primarily in North Tyneside but with a UK reach. It exists to inspire young people, invest in their personal development and have an influential impact on their contribution to the world.
The Boys’ Network is a simple and effective mentoring programme that prepares boys for the world of work whilst raising their aspirations too. It uses an online platform connecting men in business from all over the country with students aged 14-16yrs.
“The Boys’ Network has been a fantastic addition to our enrichment work in our school! There is nothing better for increasing pupils’ understanding of skills required in the workplace than to develop a professional communication with a mentor who can pass on their insight and advice.”
Stephen Riley - M10 CEO
- Mrs J Holywell (Intervention Manager)
The Boys’ Network offers schools the opportunity to implement The Gatsby Benchmark in an exciting and innovative way. The Programme, lasting for 10 months, provides students with regular opportunities to build on their understanding of attitudes, skills and mind sets needed to be successful in employment.
The Boys’ Network embraces an holistic approach to achievement by supporting schools in their development of the whole child, building confidence and raising aspiration.
At the heart of the Boys’ Network is a valuable relationship between the student and his mentor. The collaboration between schools and people from local businesses provides a successful blueprint for this mentorship programme.
We believe that men in industry can offer a wide range of experience in issues relative to the world of work. There is a real enthusiasm amongst our network of mentors; they are excited to share knowledge and insight, advice and support.
We are looking for men who hold or have held a supervisory role, who can commit to one hour with one student, once a month for 10 months. The programme is really simple and it’s run online. This means that no matter where you are in the country, if you are able to get online, you would be able to mentor on our programme.
This voluntary opportunity is also an effective way for businesses to demonstrate corporate social responsibility. Your company may be interested in partnering with us as part of your ESG strategy. We would love the opportunity to talk with you more about that.
“There has been a visible difference in the boys participating in the programme. From a boy’s perspective, the experience of forging a relationship with a new person and knowing that you are worth his time is enough to keep him focused on his learning and raise his aspirations for the future.” - S. Wallace (Dpt Head, Marden High School)

88% of participating Senior Leadership Teams stated that this increase in confidence was seen in most or all of their students.
of mentors believe that, through The Boys’ Network, those involved are becoming more prepared for their future.
of mentors agreed they themselves would have benefited from being mentored when they were younger.
“Some of my colleagues wondered why, when I’m so busy, would I take on a role like this? I felt it was important to give something back and be there for the lads so they could have a go at a successful future too.” - Richard (GastroNorth)
