XAVIEREFFECT

Dear Parents, This is both an exciting and anxious time for you and your daughter. While it’s wonderful your daughter is moving up to high school, making the right choice of school can be daunting because there are so many options available. I hope this Viewbook provides you with information to help you make the best decision for your daughter. On behalf of the entire Xavier community, I thank you for your interest in our college preparatory school. In our 80th year, Xavier continues to provide an environment that supports the growth of women of faith and character, along with the highest standards of academic excellence. We believe every student is unique. Each has individual capabilities and gifts that contribute to the strength of our entire community. Xavier’s nationally recognized programs in academics, athletics, arts, activities, and technology continue to evolve and adapt to changing educational and college requirements -- and our students’ needs. Educating the whole person — intellectually, spiritually, artistically, and physically — is our goal. Students then go on and make their distinctive mark on the world. We call it The Xavier Effect. I hope you will take the opportunity to visit our campus and meet our students, faculty, and staff. I know there is much for you to consider when making the important decision of a high school. We appreciate your consideration of Xavier and are ready to help you with your decision. Many blessings,

Sister Joan Nuckols, BVM Principal | Xavier College Preparatory

THE

XAVIEREFFECT

Dear Prospective Student, You might be feeling anxious and nervous right now. Maybe even a bit scared. I understand. I’ve been right where you are today. You might be wondering, as I did: • Will I make friends? • Will classes be too hard? • Will I ever get used to wearing a uniform? • What’s it like without boys?!

Jennifer Shumacher James ’88 Director of Admissions

The thing is it didn’t take long for me to realize that choosing Xavier was the best decision of my life! Not only did I feel well-prepared for college when I graduated, but I met some of my best friends at Xavier — friends I’m close with today all these years later. I think it will be the same for you. Sure the classes are challenging, but you’ll end up learning so much. And the teachers are always ready to help. Plus, you’ll learn how to manage your time — something that really comes in handy when you go off to college. From orientation to the Frosh Mixer and the first day of school and on, I made close friends. It was a lot easier than I imagined. All it took was going to an event, joining a club, or talking with a classmate. I even liked wearing a uniform because I never had to think about what to wear to school! And the thing about a girl’s school is that we girls got to be the leaders of everything! Today there are more clubs (75+), activities, and sports to get involved in. Whether you’re a student-athlete, into the arts, or want to join a club, there is an activity for every girl who attends Xavier. I believe that if you decide to choose Xavier, you too will realize it’s one of the best decisions of your life! Go Gators! Jennifer Shumacher James ’88

P.S. I encourage you to reach out to me if you have any questions. Also, check out our website and social media.

THE

XAVIEREFFECT Gators Give Back

Giving back to the community is a way of life for students at Xavier College Preparatory. In fact, each year students give over 30,000 hours doing volunteer work and community service as part of Xavier’s Christian Service Program. Many activities are designed by students where they see a need to fulfill.

Here are a few examples

. ......................................................

National Honor Society Xavier’s National Honor Society (NHS) started its Canned Food Drive to benefit St. Vincent de Paul in the 1990’s. The initial goal was 10,000 cans. Each year Xavier breaks the record of food collected. This year the Xavier community broke another record and donated 603,499 cans for St. Vincent de Paul! Together, we raised more than $60,000 in cash donations alone.

Aanvi Goel ’25 and Riya Mehta ‘26 These students formed a nonprofit organization, My Tasty Table, to address food insecurity issues. They host cooking classes and teach children how to prepare simple and healthy meals. The inspiration to form the organization began after Riya and Aanvi had been volunteering at a homeless service and shelter. They noticed the kids were not eating healthy meals, mostly because their families could not afford it. Instead of simply providing families with a healthy meal, they chose to make a greater impact by having cooking classes and workshops, and providing sources of healthy ingredients.

Harper Hipps ‘24 Harper Hipps said her freshman biology class opened her eyes to new possibilities. She knew that children had opportunities to enjoy science at school, but while volunteering at Goldensun Peace Ministries, a group home for adults with developmental disabilities, she realized she could bring science to the residents, and they could take part in interactive experiments.

Harper set a fundraising goal to create the Immerse Science Pop-Up Club and purchased supplies and experimental materials. Each month she brings the Club to the residents at Goldensun, teaches a science lesson and gets the residents involved in the experiments.

Abby Pearson ‘24 During the early part of the COVID pandemic, Abby Pearson and her family started a garden. They ended up with so many extra vegetables and vegetable waste, that Abby wanted to find a place to divert all that food waste. Abby researched and learned that Arizona is one of the top states for food waste. She noticed a nearby community garden plot, Pearson Street Gardens, and learned they needed more vegetable waste for their composting. Abby canvassed her neighborhood to determine interest in composting and signed up 25 families. Each week Abby brings her neighbors a 4-gallon bucket where they deposit food waste and put it out on the curb for her to pick it up, and gives them a new bucket for the week. She takes the full buckets to the community garden and deposits the food waste for compost. Abby’s takeaway: “Simple changes you make in your lifestyle can have a positive impact on the environment. Lots of people think making a change for sustainability is too difficult, but I can tell you that it can be easy.”

7 Success Factors #2 — LEADERSHIP A female-only student body means each student leadership position at Xavier is held by a young woman. The student body president will always be a woman. The National Honor Society president will always be a woman. The Computer Science Honor Society president will always be a woman.

Xavier prepares young women to be future leaders in our global society.

Opportunities are abundant for all students to master their leadership skills before they graduate. normalized the leadership of women, so I’ve had no problem speaking “ Xavier up in class. In fact, in my ethics class, which was male-dominant, there were only two women who spoke up – I was one of them. Xavier really prepared me so that I could speak up.

Because of Xavier’s rigorous academics, it made everything else manageable and easier. Plus, an all girls’ school was healthy and helped me grow. Opportunity to Earn College Credits

Dual Enrollment with Rio Salado College Ahead of its time in 1987, Xavier College Preparatory was the first high school in Arizona to offer an extensive college credit program. Partnering with Rio Salado College, Xavier provides students the opportunity to earn an Associates Degree while still in high school. Our teachers are certified and follow Maricopa Community College standards. Called DUAL ENROLLMENT — the program provides able and ambitious high school students (primarily juniors and seniors) the opportunity to earn both high school and college credits. Through Dual Enrollment, students can take specified college-level courses at the Xavier campus during regular school hours. More than one-third of the members of Xavier’s Class of 2023 received their Associate’s degree from Rio Salado College. Parents appreciate Xavier’s Dual Enrollment because of the economic and academic benefits:

• Saves many thousands of dollars in college tuition — in some cases two years of college tuition, room and board. Most colleges and universities around the country accept the credits. • The charge for Dual Enrollment is more than offset by the savings of future college tuition, room, and board. • There is ample financial aid available for Xavier’s Dual Enrollment through Rio Salado College. Students Appreciate Dual Enrollment as they go on to college because:

• Instead of being classified as a freshman, students get the first choice of classes. • Students get first pick of dorms since they are not considered freshmen. • Student-athletes’ academic loads are reduced since they start out further ahead in classes. Even if students do not complete the program for the Associate’s Degree, they can still graduate Xavier with 20-40 college credits and be further ahead when they begin college.

XAVIEREFFECT A Sense of Community

Student life at Xavier is filled with invaluable experiences and unique experiences shared together. The Xavier community is where connections are made, leadership is learned through firsthand experiences, and lifelong friendships formed. Your daughter will invariably make some of her best and lasting friends while at Xavier. Her Xavier community will share in her successes and trials as she navigates her future after graduation and for many years to come. Few schools offer as many opportunities to develop a sense of community as Xavier does. As a graduate of Xavier, your daughter taps into an international network of Gator alumnae. Friendships, mentorships, and networking opportunities abound throughout her lifetime.

Friendships, mentorships, and networking opportunities abound throughout her lifetime.

25

I N V E S T M E N T Sending your daughter to Xavier is an investment

in her future. Not only do 100% of our graduates gain acceptance to a college or university, but we average $20 million in college scholarships awarded annually to Xavier graduates (does not include financial aid).

Tuition 2023-24 School Year: $22,995 Reduced tuition for Catholic families who are registered and actively participate in a Catholic parish in the Diocese of Phoenix: $16,434

Other Fees and Costs: Families are responsible for students’ uniforms and books, which can vary depending upon uniform choices and whether new or used books are purchased. All Xavier students are required to have their own personal computing device -- a laptop with either MAC OS or Windows OS (no Chromebooks).

Xavier was a gift that my parents gave their six girls and in turn, I gave my three daughters. It fostered in me discipline, academic curiosity, and a deep appreciation of quality education wrapped in a faith-filled community. A quality education is the cornerstone of a rewarding and successful life both personally and professionally. This certainly has held true both for myself and my daughters in their early but undoubtedly amazing futures. — Joan F. Baily, M.D. ‘80

There is no separate fee for sports, but students who choose to participate in certain team sports may be responsible for some uniform, travel, and miscellaneous costs. Parents and students will be asked and are expected to contribute to annual fundraising efforts. Any level of support is greatly appreciated. Funds from these efforts are used for the financial assistance program and to support any ongoing capital project. 26

Financial Aid at Xavier

How much financial aid will I receive?

All financial aid from Xavier funds and the tuition tax credit organization Catholic Education Arizona (CEA) will be based on financial need. No scholarships are awarded for athletic achievement. (This is prohibited by the Arizona Interscholastic Association for all its member schools. ) Our goal is to use the available financial aid funds to ensure that all qualified students will be able to attend Xavier regardless of their financial circumstances.

The amount of aid from CEA and Xavier is determined after review of the results of the FAIR application and in consideration of funds available. Due to limited funds, it may not be possible to meet all needs in full, regardless of a family’s financial situation. Additionally, the majority of financial aid funding comes from yearly tax credit funds and funds raised through the Xavier Fund, the Mothers’ Guild, and the Dads’ Club. It is not possible to know from year to year how much funding will be available. Currently 45% of Xavier students receive some financial aid.

FAQ’s about Financial Aid at Xavier: How can I apply for financial aid? Families who wish to receive financial aid from Xavier must submit a completed online application to Catholic Education Arizona (CEA) through FAIR for evaluation of a family’s financial strength and need. The application must be submitted by April 15, 2024 to be considered in the first round of funding. Online applications will be available in January 2024 and families will be notified in mid-June 2024 of any awards. (Link to the FAIR application can be found on the Xavier website under Tuition & Aid.) xcp.org.

Are there other sources of financial aid?

Yes! Families may also independently apply to other Arizona tuition tax credit organizations (STO’s). Visit the Xavier website under the Tuition & Aid link for a list of more private school tuition tax credit organizations.
