From the California Association of REALTORS® (C.A.R.) 6/11-6/18/20 Business is UP: C.A.R.’s weekly survey of California REALTORS® showed a 3rd consecutive weekly gain in the percentage that had a listing appointment (34%) and more of those appointments resulted in homes being listed on the MLS (29%) In addition, we’ve seen a consistent uptrend over the past month in the percentage of REALTORS® entering escrow during the week (29%) and the percent that closed a transaction during the week (25%). Homes selling quickly with minimal discounting: The homes that are available for sale (particularly as demand has increased over the past month) have been selling quickly—a median of 17 days in May—and sellers got close to asking price in May (99.7%). Showings rise above 2019 levels for first time: After making tremendous progress over the past 6 weeks, the index of home showings finally rose above 2019 levels for the first time and continued the uptrend. Together with increasing jobs, all-time low interest rates, and consistently improving mortgage applications, the demand for housing has been steadily clawing its way back from its nadir in mid-April and that continued last week.
