Welcome to our 2024 Spirit of LVS Ascot prize-giving ceremonies. We celebrate all that is amazing about our school in our Senior School President’s Day ceremony and our Infant and Junior School Celebration Day.
Throughout generations, there have always been educational challenges; that’s what ensures we as a nation make progression and make the right choices for our children. The world is changing at an extraordinary pace and despite the political challenges we have ahead, it looks as if educational reform in the next 2-4 years will be rapid and responsive to this changing global environment. As a school, I am so proud to lead our wonderful community where we embrace change and continue to deliver a curriculum and school experience that is forward thinking, predictive and innovative to ensure our children are global citizens for the future.
At the core – happiness is the resounding, essential component to embrace change and challenge and this is at the centre of all we do.
Today we celebrate the achievement of all our pupils and stand #ProudToBeLVSAscot
Christine Cunniffe BA (Hons) MMus MBA School Principal
I am so proud to have the honour to be the new Chair of Governors for LVS Ascot. Taking over from the formidable and passionate Mrs Anita Adams is quite a task but, having been a governor of the school for many years, I am so pleased to be able to take on this role.
The school continues to thrive and together we have navigated some tricky waters over the past couple of years. No doubt there will be other challenges along the way, but since 1803 the school has looked adversity in the face and found opportunity where others have floundered.
This resilience is core to what we do today and I am proud to be here to recognise the achievements of all our pupils. My thanks go to you as their parents, grandparents and family, as well as to our teachers, for all the hard work, support and commitment to LVS Ascot.
Let the celebrations begin!
Toby Brett Chair of Governors,
LVS Ascot
Our PTFA works openly, inclusively and sustainably to enrich the experience of children attending LVS Ascot. Brought together by this common goal, we have fun doing it and we make new friends along the way.
Our PTFA members are volunteers who commit their skills and time to fundraising and school social events. This year these include a crazy hair day, disco, Easter hunt, summer ball and a visit from Santa.
PTFA funds contribute to school projects which are not already covered in the budget, such as the new dance floor; new playground markings in the IJS; and specialist equipment in the sports, art, and design and technology departments.
Our charitable objective to enrich the experience of LVS pupils is underpinned by our principles of sustainability, inclusivity and local community.
Doing our bit towards a sustainable future means we make conscious choices in the use and re-use of materials, and we promote fundraising through donating second-hand clothes in our Bag2School drives. This year, we also launched our second-hand uniform shop - a well-stocked shop providing cheaper, more sustainable options for buying uniforms; the proceeds of which fund PTFA events and school projects.
Our coffee mornings encourage LVS parents to make friends and join in our initiatives, and we introduced Classlist this year to be more inclusive through accessible communications and information-sharing. Extending the PTFA reach is central to our aspirations to forge friendships and expand our membership.
In the spirit of community, we collaborate with local businesses to maximise our efforts. We use local suppliers and support independent businesses wherever possible. And local businesses support us: this year we received £1,700 in summer ball sponsorship, with some very generous raffle donations from companies in the Ascot area.
As a registered charity, our proper governance and constitution are critical to our success. The core PTFA committee meets fortnightly, and we hold official termly committee meetings and an AGM where all members are welcome. For further information, you’ll find us on Classlist or online at www.lvs.ascot.sch.uk.
We would be thrilled to welcome new members, so please join us if you would like to be part of the community!

Guide Me O Thou Great Redeemer Guide me, O thou great Redeemer, Pilgrim through this barren land; I am weak, but thou art mighty, Hold me with thy powerful hand: Bread of Heaven, Bread of Heaven, Feed me till I want no more Feed me till I want no more.
Open now the crystal fountain
Whence the healing stream doth flow; Let the fire and cloudy pillar
Lead me all my journey through:
Strong deliverer, Strong deliverer, Be thou still my strength and shield
Be thou still my strength and shield.
When I tread the verge of Jordan, Bid my anxious fears subside; Death of death, and hell’s destruction
Land me safe on Canaan’s side:

Jerusalem
And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England’s mountains green? And was the holy Lamb of God On England’s pleasant pastures seen? And did the countenance divine Shine forth upon our clouded hills? And was Jerusalem builded here Among those dark satanic mills?
Bring me my bow of burning gold!
Bring me my arrows of desire!
Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold!
Bring me my chariot of fire!
I will not cease from mental fight, Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand, Till we have built Jerusalem In England’s green and pleasant land.

I Vow to Thee My Country
I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above, Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love: The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test, That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best; The love that never falters, the love that pays the price, The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.
And there’s another country, I’ve heard of long ago, Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know; We may not count her armies; we may not see her King; Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering; And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase, And her ways are ways of gentleness and all her paths are peace.
Music by G. Holst / Text by C. S. Rice

Throughout this year, sports at LVS Ascot have continued to thrive across all school levels. Pupils have consistently showcased teamwork, collaboration, communication, and camaraderie, coupled with determination and skill.
In the Infant and Junior School, alongside regular interschool fixtures and house competitions in various sports, students participated in numerous ISA tournaments. Notable achievements included being runners-up in the Maidenhead Magpies Years 3 and 4 boys’ Football Festival. Pupils also attended a sports tour to St. George’s Park for football and hockey, featuring training sessions with England coaches and matches with renowned clubs like Beeston Hockey Club.
In the Senior School, a myriad of fixtures and co-curricular clubs provided an abundance of sporting opportunities for pupils to take part in. Highlights included the annual ISA U11, U13, and U15 boys and girls and boys national football tournaments. LVS Ascot secured notable victories in the U11 girls and U15 boys plates and second in the U13 boys cup.
Pupils across all age groups have taken part in ISA national and county tournaments in sports such as football, basketball, cricket, netball, hockey and rugby. They all represented the school fantastically. Additionally, a football, basketball and volleyball tour to Barcelona in October for Years 10-13, offered training sessions with Barcelona’s academies and cultural experiences, including visiting the Sagrada Familia. This year also saw us host the inaugural Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity Fun Run, which raised over £600.
Other achievements have included hosting the U12 boys Berkshire hockey tournament, securing silver medals, and the U14 girls hockey team’s success in coming third in the South-Central Regional competition.
At the ISA regional swimming competition, three pupils qualified for the national event, where they earned two bronze medals and a gold medal. Cross country saw five pupils qualify for the national competition, achieving impressive results, including two bronze medals.
In June we had our Years 7-9 football and hockey tour to Eindhoven where our students enjoyed high-quality coaching and fixtures against Dutch teams. These sports tours are cherished experiences, creating lasting memories for pupils, so keep your eyes peeled for dates of future tours.
As the year concludes, LVS Ascot extends its thanks to everyone involved in fostering a thriving sports culture, including pupils, parents, staff, catering and grounds teams. Sports here would not be what they are without you all. Enjoy a restful summer and we will see you back out on the sports pitches when we return.
This academic year has been busy and exciting in the Performing Arts Department with success in all year groups who have had the opportunity to perform, compete and take examinations.
The Autumn term started with our Young Performer of the Year events as well as Senior House Performing Arts. Student-led House Performing Arts improves each year, and the camaraderie shown in each House, along with creative performances, was a joy to see. We concluded the term with a hugely successful production of ‘Footloose’ performed by students in Years 7-13. The National Schools Theatre Awards attended our performance and gave us a rave review:
“As the audience left, there was a collective sense of having witnessed something extraordinary. Footloose the Musical at LVS Ascot was not just a show; it was a celebration of talent, teamwork, and the infectious joy of performance.”
This production showcased the talent at LVS Ascot and also the supportive nature of our older students who acted as excellent role models to the younger students.
In the Spring we held auditions for our Year 5-9 production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory the Musical, and a record number of students auditioned. The performance took place in May with an 80 strong cast and 20 backstage crew. This was a challenging production technically and the cast and crew took it all in their stride, performing brilliantly to full houses each night. We also had two students in the orchestra, Thomas in Year 13 and Edward in Year 7. We look forward to working with all of these students again in future productions and they are already showing phenomenal talent at a young age.
We have also seen talent from our youngest students in the IJS. Students from Reception to Year 13 took part in our Performing Arts Marathon at the end of term which lasted 12 hours. Students performed work from their dance and music lessons and work from their performing arts clubs.
Year 3 and 4 students performed their own mini musicals first performed in March for their Grade 1 Musical Theatre LAMDA exam, achieving very high marks. Congratulations to everyone who has worked hard for music and LAMDA exams. A particular congratulations goes to Cait Jones for gaining 100% in her Grade 6 Acting LAMDA exam.
We are lucky to be part of the Independent Schools Association and, as a result, we have the opportunity to take part in the competitions they host throughout each year. We’ve had a lot of success, and our Year 8 girls made it through to the final of the ISA Dance competition in October. Our brand-new A Cappella choir competed for the first time in the Spring term and gained third place in the competition. Also, in the Spring we entered two groups in the ISA Drama Competition. Year 10 were awarded an Honourable mention for their performance of ‘Find Me’ as well as an award for Most Convincing Characterisation for Sonya Apert. Sonya also achieved first place in the ISA Shakespeare Monologue competition for her original monologue which she wrote and performed as Lady Macbeth. We hosted the final of the Musical Theatre competition and had more success with three performers through to the finals. Emelie Zeitlin was awarded the Adjudicators Choice Award for her solo performance.
We are constantly amazed by the dedication and commitment of our students, in lessons, rehearsals, clubs, performances, competitions and productions and we would like to thank everyone who has supported the Performing Arts department this year.

The funds raised will go to support Seven Clean Seas, a charity set up by one of our Alumni that removes plastics from the sea.
Arjan Dhother, one of our Year 13 students has played a huge part in helping his local community. Since 2017, he has been a member of Slough Outreach, a communityled initiative that provides essential services to the homeless and vulnerable in Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead. We are extremely proud of the time and effort he has put into such a fantastic cause.
The WoW Group provides an opportunity for LVS Ascot parents, teachers, career advisors, and other staff to network and discuss the changing professional environment and how we can better prepare our students for the world of work. We tap into the breadth of business experience of our parent body to not only support our children, but to support each other as business peers. The WoW Group is open to any LVS Ascot Junior or Senior school parents and guardians with business experience who want to contribute and network with others in the LVS Ascot community, bridging the gap between education and careers. LVS Ascot is very proud to help give students the best start to life and better prospects for future careers, and we encourage them to stay in touch with us and let us know what they are doing. By registering for our alumni network, former students can advertise their skills and professional services to other alumni members, providing excellent networking opportunities. LVS Ascot also hosts an annual alumni event or school reunion allowing past students to come back and see the school, meet old school friends and teachers and enjoy relaxed social occasions at the school with the opportunity to network. To find out more information and details of our Alumni LinkedIn group visit www.lvs.ascot.sch.uk/lvs-alumni
The LVSingers (Parent and Staff Choir) began in late 2012 with the plan to sing just one song – and it just grew from there! Over the last few years, we have held numerous services and concerts raising many thousands of pounds for charity. You do not have to be able to read music to join – just a willingness to get stuck in and have a go. All the songs are chosen with great care – most very well-known –and cover a range of genres to suit all tastes.
The practice evenings are highly enjoyable – all led by the Principal, Christine Cunniffe – and you never leave without a true sense of satisfaction and inner contentment at the achievement made. The investment of just a little time into this is really worth the enjoyment and true sense of community that it brings. Email claire.gedge@ lvs.ascot.sch.uk if you want to know more!
Have you ever listened to our live ‘LVS Perspectives’ discussions on Facebook and YouTube. A series of topical opinion pieces and discussions from people with a stake in education - be they parents, educational professionals or experts interested in the future of education and the wellbeing of this generation of students. Join Christine Cunniffe and her guests and hear relevant and up-tothe-minute talks – please visit www.lvs.ascot.sch.uk/ information/perspectives to catch up on past LVS Perspectives.
Our residential trips are very popular amongst students. These trips provide the opportunity for learning in a more practical setting and enable the students to be adventurous whilst embracing different cultures. Recent trips have included skiing in Passo Tonale, Italy, studying WWI in Ypres and an activity-filled tour around South Africa.
