My name is Kevin McCann, and I am your new City Administrator. I have been working for the city since 2016 as Finance Director so for a while, I will be wearing two hats. Transitioning from the North Mankato Finance Director to the North Mankato City Administrator, meant no need for a formal transition period. I was able to start the day after the formal approval at the June 20 council meeting and I hit the ground running. Read on as I answered questions from North Kato Magazine to help all of you get to know me better! What do you see as high priorities as you take over the position? The biggest priority is getting the 2023 budget developed. Summer is budget season in local government and as City Administrator and former Finance Director, I will be fulfilling both roles as I put the budget together. My other biggest priorities are to get to know people and learn how to best serve the citizens, business leaders, mayor and council members, and staff. The city has many capital projects that need to be completed ranging from the Lor Ray Dr. and McKinley Avenue street projects to the Caswell Softball upgrades.. At the same time, we will continue to work to secure state funding for the Caswell Indoor Rec Facility. Ultimately, we will work to maintain fiscal stability and continue to engage in large capital projects, while promoting residential and commercial development

opportunities. Another big priority is to work on a plan for the former Norwood Inn facility. I will also work to continue to attract great new businesses and a variety of housing stock to the city by making North Mankato inviting and accommodating for those looking to locate here. What are some of your goals for the position? Regarding my goals for the position, I will work to build relationships, trust, and respect for the position. Although I have worked for the city since 2016, I am in a new role that will require lots of listening, learning, and building connections. Luckily, there is a great team of staff, elected officials, committee members, business leaders, and citizens willing to help. Why do you think North Mankato is such a wonderful place to live, work and play? North Mankato continues to be the city of choice by having great parks, businesses, citizens, and staff. There are tremendous opportunities here. My family loves the Spring Lake Pool, Fallenstein Park, the restaurants, and all the events in town, along with various other outstanding recreational opportunities. It is so wonderful to live, work, and play in such a terrific area. I would also like to thank everyone for this opportunity and for all who were involved with the city administrator selection process. It is an honor to be your next City Administrator and I look forward to achieving great things together.
