Located in Juhu, Mumbai, Mrignain is a 3200 sq ft duplex residence that brings together ethnic charm and modern design. A collaboration between Studio Jane and Royal Home Spaces, this home reflects the client’s vision of luxury with contemporary living, while respecting Vastu principles. The design optimises space and functionality without sacrificing aesthetics, blending the traditional with the modern for an elevated living experience.
Studio Jane’s approach centres on creating a home that resonates with the family’s personality, ensuring every design detail is both functional and emotionally resonant. The space is carefully designed to maximise vertical space, integrate bespoke elements, and create an atmosphere of warmth and individuality.
The entrance foyer leads to two sections: the private bedrooms and guest suite on one side, and the communal areas on
the other. The marble staircase, located opposite the main entrance, connects both floors and enhances the home’s elegance. Custom-designed furniture and personalised illustrations add to the distinctive character of each room.
Harmonious blend of bespoke escapades and modern aesthetics
The gold-panelled PU entrance door makes a bold statement with its 3D effects and wood scoops. This custom design, divided into three sections, features a matte gold lacquer finish with perforated detailing that allows glimpses into the home. The door sets the tone for the residence, which balances contemporary sophistication with traditional influences.
The living area is divided into four distinct sections: the lounge, bar, dining area, and entertainment space. A blend of vibrant colours and classic accents infuses the space with energy while maintaining a refined atmosphere. Two long sofas and a
custom-designed adjustable-height table with fluted glass and leather details add to the cohesive look. A Manchaha rug from Jaipur Rugs brings a traditional touch, while thoughtful lighting highlights key design features, creating a warm, welcoming environment.
Moving into the dining area, the design embraces a compact layout due to space limitations. Custom chairs with armrests and a minimalist glass-top table enhance the feeling of openness. Natural light streaming through nearby windows adds an airy, expansive vibe to the space.
In the primary bedroom, lime plaster and wooden flooring introduce natural elements, while beige tones on the walls create a warm atmosphere. Custom vertical lights add a personal touch to the design. The closet doors are adorned with fluted panels and chevron grooves, giving the room texture and visual interest.
The parents’ bedroom features a blend of colonial vintage with Indian roots. A collage of monochromatic family photographs decorates the wall, while the bed posts, designed to resemble minarets, maintain a light, airy feel. In the ensuite bathroom, glass partitions divide the wet and dry areas, keeping the space functional and visually cohesive. Marine-grade
plywood is used for the bathroom furniture, ensuring durability and aligning with the design theme.
The daughter’s bedroom is a masterclass in space-saving design, featuring a Murphy bed that integrates seamlessly into the wall. This thoughtful approach ensures the room can accommodate both play and rest, keeping the space functional without sacrificing style. The son’s bedroom reflects his passion for athletics, with a vibrant tangerine palette and tropical wallpaper. Adventure-inspired elements, such as a horizontal ladder and hanging bars, infuse energy and personality into the space.
In the guest bedroom, a daybed saves space while showcasing traditional Indian design elements. The use of fresh fuchsia and subtle green panels in the wardrobe background creates a bright, welcoming atmosphere. Cane detailing in the furniture adds a touch of stability and traditional charm.

The LIT Lighting Design Awards are officially open for submissions, inviting lighting designers from around the world to be part of the 2025 celebration of design excellence. Known for spotlighting groundbreaking achievements in lighting design, this prestigious event recognizes the best in Architectural Lighting Design, Entertainment Lighting Design, and Lighting Product Design.
With 31 categories in Architectural Lighting Design, 15 in Entertainment Lighting Design, and 44 in Lighting Product Design, the LIT Lighting Design Awards sets the stage for the next generation of lighting innovators. In 2024, the program received over 800 submissions from 58 countries, showcasing a breathtaking array of designs. Past winners included Studio
ZNA, Takahiro Matsuo of Lucent, and Evgenii Vetlugin and Eduard Bochanov of Pipe Lighting GmbH, among others.

They will be featured in the annual Book of Design, awarded the coveted LIT Lighting Design Awards certificate and badge of achievement, and enjoy a year-round profile in the LIT Awards Online Directory.
