Lutheran Services
Carolinas (LSC) is the affiliation of two Lutheran social ministries whose roots extend over more than a century. Both are sponsored by the North and South Carolina Synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).
Lutheran Services for the Aging (LSA) was founded in 1960 and opened its first nursing home in 1962. Lutheran Family Services in the Carolinas (LFS) was founded in 1976 and incorporated in 1980. Each organization has its own bylaws and board of trustees, but the membership of those boards is identical. Each affiliate corporation has 501(c)(3) non-profit status.
LSC’s corporate culture is informed and enriched by Christian faith and values. At the same time, the organization embraces all people who share its commitment to service,
regardless of faith. LSC expresses its ethics through a set of six core values and a customer service program called The LSC Way. (See page 13.)
LSC has grown into a $240 million ministry serving both North and South Carolina. The organization directly serves more than 10 thousand people per year, employs over 2,500 teammates, and touches the lives of thousands more. LSC’s programs, services, and communities welcome everyone regardless of age, race, sex, religion, or national origin.
LSC’s senior services in North Carolina include eleven senior living communities, an adult day services program, home care services, affordable housing, and several PACE programs (Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly).

LSC teammates have identified seven core values or principles that define LSC’s culture and character. All are fundamental in fulfilling the organization’s mission.
Collaboration: We believe bringing together the skills and knowledge of many individuals broadens our perspective and improves decision making. Collaboration fosters an atmosphere of trust and cooperation while enriching the workplace and our organization.
Compassion: We believe compassion is the foundation of LSC’s ministry. To be compassionate is to recognize the hurt or unhappiness of another and act to change it. LSC teammates work in a compassionate manner to improve the lives of all they serve.
Excellence: We believe any job worth doing is worth doing well. LSC teammates strive for excellence and encourage it in others. We seek out opportunities for personal growth and development and encourage others to do so as well.
Faith: Many LSC teammates choose to work here because their faith calls them to love and to serve. All LSC teammates strive to be content and joyful in their work and to create an atmosphere of support and forgiveness.
Integrity: LSC teammates work responsibly, honestly, and in a transparent manner. We expect honesty at all levels of the organization. LSC teammates are encouraged to voice concerns, seek help, and admit failures.
Justice: God calls us to “Do Justice,” to be in a right relationship with God and with each other. Every person should live free of bias, favoritism, and discrimination. At LSC, we work to create a just culture throughout the organization and in all the communities we serve.
Respect: LSC strives to create a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone is treated with dignity, and differences are accepted and enjoyed. LSC teammates embrace the gifts of all and recognize the intrinsic worth of each person.
