A Albânia (1912) localiza-se na península dos Balcãs, banhada pelo Mar Adriático com 360 km de litoral. A região, dominada na antiguidade pelos gregos e romanos, foi conquistada no século XV pelos turcos otomanos. Tirana, a sua capital, foi fundada em 1614 por um general do império Otomano que nessa época construiu uma mesquita, banhos públicos e uma padaria. Tudo o que era necessário para uma cidade: rezar, estar limpo e comer.
Albania (1912) is located on the Balkan Peninsula; bathed by the Adriatic Sea it has 360 km of coast. The region, dominated in ancient times by Greeks and Romans, was conquered by Ottoman Turks in the 15th century. Tirana, the capital, was founded in 1614 by a general of the Ottoman Empire who commissioned the construction of a mosque, public baths and a baker’s shop. Everything a city needed: praying, getting clean and eating.
O país emergiu como um estado comunista após a Segunda Guerra Mundial. No início dos anos 90 os albaneses adoptaram uma democracia multipartidária. Actualmente faz uma transição difícil para uma economia mais liberal. Possui reservas importantes de gás natural e petróleo. Nos últimos dois anos a economia do país tem tido um forte crescimento. É uma das poucas nações na Europa onde a religião muçulmana é dominante.

It is currently going through the difficult transition to a more liberal economy. The country has important natural gas and oil reserves. It has experienced strong growth over the last two years.
