OUR HISTORY
Wensum Valley Hotel, Golf & Country Club was established in 1990 by Basil Todd with a vision to create a warm, welcoming destination set in the heart of the Norfolk countryside. From the beginning, the goal was simple: offer great value, excellent service, and a relaxed atmosphere for all.
Over the years, the business has grown from a single golf course into a thriving country club with two 18hole courses, a 90-bedroom hotel, a modern leisure club, and a popular wedding and events venue. Despite this growth, the heart of Wensum Valley has remained the same— family-run, friendly, and focused on genuine hospitality.
Now led by Basil’s daughter, Bridgette Hall, the club continues to evolve while staying true to its roots. With sweeping views across the River Wensum, a loyal local community, and a reputation for relaxed charm, Wensum Valley is proud of its past— and excited for the future.

Following an extensive refurbishment, Black Swan Care Group has reopened the former Eastlands Care Home on Beech Avenue in Taverham. The home provides short-term respite care or longer-term support, specialising in supporting people living with dementia.
Residents’ rooms are large with ensuite wetrooms. We provide home - cooked meals with fresh ingredients, an extensive activities programme and a commitment to developing and maintaining a close relationship with the local Taverham and Drayton community.
Black Swan Care Group has an excellent reputation for high quality. All our care homes in East Anglia are rated as good or outstanding by the Care Quality Commission.
THE WENSUM COURSE
The Wensum Course is Wensum Valley’s championship 18 hole layout, stretching approximately 6,100 yards from the competition tees and playing to a Par 72. Designed to challenge both distance and shot precision, it features generous fairways framed by woodlands, lakes, and winding water hazards — including a signature island green that offers both visual drama and a strategic test.
Five holes exceed 450 yards, making strong tee shots and thoughtful course management essential. The layout rewards confident play while punishing wayward approaches, particularly where water comes into play.
Highlights include the elevated 13th Hole, a bold par 3 onto an island green, and the sweeping 11th, which runs alongside the River Wensum
and demands accuracy from start to finish.
Set on free-draining soil in Norfolk’s generally dry terrain, the course offers excellent playing conditions nearly year round. With panoramic valley views and a peaceful countryside setting, the Wensum Course delivers a rewarding and memorable round for the experienced golfer.
