WARLINGHAM RFC
WORDS FROM OUR NEW PRESIDENT
It is with immense pride and excitement that I address you as your President for the 2025/26 season.
Warlingham Rugby Club has been a constant in my life for many years - from pulling on the jersey as firstteam captain, to coaching, serving as Director of Rugby, and now as President. This club has shaped so much of who I am, and it remains at the very heart of my life.
Warlingham is more than just a rugby club; it’s a community built on shared passion and unwavering dedication. I’ve seen that spirit from our youngest players taking their first steps in rugby, through to our seasoned veterans who have many stories to share.
My focus this season will be to support our Chairman, Dave Toye, and the entire committee in building on our many strengths. Together, we will uphold the values that make Warlingham a special and welcoming environment for everyone.
Finally, my heartfelt thanks to all our volunteers, coaches, players, and supporters. Your commitment is what makes this club truly exceptional. I look forward to sharing another memorable season with you all, both on and off the pitch.

CHAIRMAN’S WELCOME
Welcome to the 2025/26 season at Warlingham Rugby Club!
It’s a pleasure to greet all our players, members, supporters, and visitors as we look forward to another exciting year. After a summer to recharge, everyone is eager to get back on the pitch.
Last season brought real progress across the club, from the energy of our Minis and Youth, to the passion shown by our Senior teams. Participation continues to grow, especially among our youngest players, thanks to the dedication of our coaches, volunteers, and parents.
We’re very proud of our close association with Harlequins. Several of our Academy players have pulled on the famous quarters, while our grounds regularly host their youth camps - inspiring the next generation of rugby talent.
This season, our focus remains clear: to build on that momentum, nurture talent at every level, and create a welcoming, inclusive environment where rugby can be enjoyed by all. Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline, and Sportsmanship will continue to guide everything we do.
None of this is possible without our incredible volunteers, whether they’re a coach, first-aider, team manager, or club organiser, their commitment is the lifeblood of Warlingham RFC, and I thank you sincerely.
To our players: good luck for the season ahead. Train hard, play fair, and enjoy every moment. To our supporters: your cheers from the sidelines mean the world, and we look forward to sharing another memorable season with you.
Here’s to a successful and enjoyable 2025/26 season!
Dave Toye Chairman, Warlingham Rugby Club
HISTORY
FROM ITS HUMBLE BEGINNINGS IN 1922 TO ITS VIBRANT COMMUNITY STANDING TODAY, WARLINGHAM RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB HAS A RICH AND ENDURING HISTORY. THIS IS THE STORY OF A CLUB BUILT ON THE DEDICATION OF ITS MEMBERS AND A PASSION FOR THE GAME OF RUGBY.
THE FOUNDING YEARS: 1922 - 1940
The club was born on September 4th, 1922, initially named Upper Warlingham RFC by a group of former Leytonstone RFC players. After a victorious first trial game, the club quickly established itself, changing its name to Warlingham RFC upon discovering there was no “Upper Warlingham,” only a railway station. Early days saw the team playing on a rented pitch and using the local pub and village hall for meetings and changing. By 1927, the club was determined to own its own home. Through a monumental effort, a company was formed, shares were sold, and with the help of a generous deposit from Arthur Adam, the club secured the very land it occupies today.
THE POST-WAR REVIVAL
The Second World War brought a halt to regular club activities, with the clubhouse being occupied by the Royal Tank Corps and the pitches ploughed up for agricultural use. It took years of hard work to restore the ground to a playable condition. The club officially restarted in the 1948-49 season, a period of rebuilding and renewal. A new club crest was designed in the 1950s, a symbol still proudly worn by players today. Tragedy struck in 1953 when the clubhouse was destroyed by fire, but the indomitable spirit of the members shone through, and a new one was built within ten months through their collective efforts.

HISTORY
GROWTH AND EXPANSION
The club’s modern era began to take shape in the 1960s. In 1965, WRFC purchased additional land, creating the expansive grounds we enjoy today. The club’s on-field success grew, and by the mid-60s, they were fielding multiple teams every Saturday. A pivotal moment came in the 1970s with the introduction of Mini and Junior rugby. This new section became the lifeblood of the club, fostering a new generation of players, coaches, and volunteers who would go on to shape its future.
THE MODERN CLUB
Warlingham RFC has always been a hub of activity and community spirit, with its modern clubhouse, which opened in 2005 by Rugby World Cup winner Martin Johnson, standing as a testament to the club’s progress and continued vision. The club has a proud touring tradition, a practice that has built lifelong friendships and memories. Over the years, many players have earned County caps, and two have even gone on to represent England, both of whom later returned to their roots at Warlingham to coach and help inspire the next generation of players.
Today, Warlingham Rugby Club remains committed to its founding principles: a community club that welcomes all, from seasoned players to new families, united by a love for the game and the values of rugby. The story of Warlingham RFC is still being written, and we look forward to the next chapter with all of you.
MINIS
THE FUTURE OF WARLINGHAM: THE MINIS SECTION
The heart of any successful club lies in its youth, and at Warlingham RFC, our Minis section is where the journey begins. We are dedicated to providing a fun, active, and inclusive environment for children aged 4 to 11, from Reception to Year 6.
THE MINI RUGBY PHILOSOPHY
Our approach to Mini rugby is all about building a foundation of skills, confidence, and sportsmanship. We focus initially on non-contact and tag rugby, introducing youngsters to the fundamentals of the game in a safe and supportive setting. Our dedicated coaches emphasise key skills such as passing, evasion, and teamwork, all while ensuring that the children are enjoying themselves, and developing a lifelong love for the sport.
PROGRESSION AND PARTICIPATION
As our players grow, so does their rugby journey. From Under 9s, they transition into contact rugby beginning with the tackle, with
additions such as rucking and scrums gradually being introduced in subsequent years. This staged progression helps them to build on their foundations with new skills, without being overwhelmed by some of the technicalities of the game, and ensures they are wellprepared for the next stage of their rugby careers. Beyond the regular training sessions, our Minis are actively involved in festivals, tours, and social events, representing Warlingham in county-wide competitions across Surrey and the UK, often playing at Twickenham and the Stoop in half-time exhibition matches due to our close relationship with Harlequins.
GET INVOLVED!
The Minis section trains every Sunday from 10am, September to May at our home grounds. And it is a sight to behold; hundreds of children running, tagging, tackling, and scoring tries everywhere you look! We welcome children of all abilities and are committed to making sure every child has a positive and rewarding experience. If you are a parent interested in getting your child involved, come along on a Sunday and try out a free taster session!
The future of Warlingham Rugby Club is bright, and it starts with our incredible Minis section.
JUNIORS
RISING STARS: THE JUNIORS SECTION
The Warlingham RFC Juniors section is where young players truly expand their skillset and passion for rugby, with training on Sunday mornings from 10am, plus one midweek evening. Our teams cover every age group from Under 12 to Under 16, providing a continuous pathway for players to grow within the club. Competing across leagues, cups, and tournaments throughout the season, our Juniors experience the highs and lows of team sport, and have earned real success, including back-to-back Surrey Quins Cup titles. It’s a testament to their hard work, talent, and the camaraderie that defines this section.
OUR COACHING AND DEVELOPMENT
Our success is built on a strong foundation of dedicated coaches and volunteers. We are proud of the high level coaching we offer, with all coaches undergoing regular RFU training to ensure they are providing the best and most up-to-date guidance,
and all head coaches holding an England Rugby Coaching Award qualification, in line with RFU guidelines.
Beyond the core rugby skills, our coaches are committed to developing personal qualities in every player, including selfconfidence, respect for others, team spirit, and good sportsmanship.
COMMUNITY AND PARTICIPATION
The Juniors section is more than just a training ground; it’s a community. In addition to our Sunday morning sessions, our players are involved in a variety of festivals, tours, and social events. This fosters a strong “family club” spirit and builds lasting friendships, supported by an army of dedicated volunteers.
We believe that enjoying the game is paramount, and our focus is always on creating a positive and rewarding experience for every child. We are excited to see our junior players thrive and become the future of Warlingham Rugby Club.
ACADEMY
THE WARLINGHAM ACADEMY: THE PATH TO SENIOR RUGBY
The Warlingham Academy is the crucial stepping stone for our young athletes, bridging the gap between youth rugby and the senior game. We cater to players in the Under 17 and Under 18 age groups, providing a structured and supportive environment for their final years of junior rugby.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
Our goal is to provide high-quality coaching in a safe, fun, and enjoyable environment. We focus on developing players’ skills, game awareness, and physical conditioning, ensuring they are wellprepared for the demands of adult rugby. The Academy actively participates in the Quins Cup and Surrey Waterfall Cup, giving players the chance to compete at a high level and showcase their talents.
TRAINING AND EXPECTATIONS
Dedication is key to success. Our coaching sessions are held on Sunday mornings from 10.30am - 12pm, and Thursday evenings from 7 - 8pm. We expect players to arrive 15 minutes early, bringing a drink, a gum shield, trainers, and rugby boots with kite-certified studs (blades are not permitted). For their own safety and development, players without a gum shield or proper boots will not be allowed to train or play.
We believe in a family club spirit, and our Academy is no exception. We welcome all players and work hard to create a fun, inclusive, and rewarding experience for everyone involved.
WOMEN & GIRLS
THE WARLINGHAM WILDCATS: WOMEN & GIRLS’ RUGBY
The Warlingham Wildcats are the vibrant and growing Women and Girls section of the club, embodying a fun, social, and committed approach to rugby. We are a forward-thinking family club, dedicated to providing a welcoming environment for female players of all ages and abilities.
OUR COMMUNITY
The Wildcats are more than just a team; we are a close-knit community of players and supporters. We are committed to building a positive and inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels they belong. Currently, we are an emerging team within the club, but our dedicated members have huge ambitions to make Warlingham a new home for Women and Girls to enjoy the game, from their first steps in rugby to competitive senior play.
TEAMS & TRAINING
Players join The Wildcats at U12 after their foundation years in Minis come to an end, and progress their skills and development through their teenage years, all the way up to Senior level. The section is led by former Premier 15s (now Premier Women’s Rugby) player Hayley Sasserath, whose experience and passion for the game help drive the Wildcats forward. Our dedicated coaching team delivers a high standard of training, with sessions held every Sunday morning from 10am.
JOIN THE WILDCATS!
Whether you’re a seasoned player or have never touched a rugby ball before, there’s a place for you at Warlingham RFC. The Warlingham Wildcats are constantly looking for new players to join their ranks and be part of this burgeoning, exciting, and rewarding section of the club.

SENIOR RUGBY
SENIOR RUGBY: THE HEART OF WARLINGHAM RFC
Our Senior section is the cornerstone of Warlingham Rugby Club, representing the culmination of our player pathway and the embodiment of our club’s competitive spirit. We field multiple teams, providing a place for players of all levels and ages to enjoy the game they love. Over 80% of our senior players are home-grown, having progressed through Warlingham’s Junior and Academy programmes - a true reflection of our commitment to developing talent from within.
THE 1ST XV
The 1st XV is the club’s flagship side, representing Warlingham with pride and ambition. Competing in Counties 4 Surrey, they face tough local rivals and consistently showcase the best of our rugby. Recent seasons have brought challenges, but the squad’s resilience has shone through, and they now enter 2025/26 with renewed determination. With a strong core of committed players, the 1st XV is ready to build on its proud legacy and push for success.
THE 2ND XV
The 2nd XV plays a vital role within the club, providing a competitive environment and a stepping stone for our most promising young players. It offers a platform for talent to flourish and an opportunity for players to push for a spot in the 1st XV. With its blend of ages and abilities, the 2nd XV is characterised by strong team spirit and is essential for maintaining the depth and quality of our senior squad.
THE VETS XV
The Vets XV is where the timeless spirit of rugby truly shines. This team is for players who may have taken a step back from regular rugby but still possess a deep love for the game and a desire for camaraderie. The Vets provide the chance to keep playing with friends, often under the floodlights on a Friday night, and are an integral part of the club’s social fabric and heritage.
The Senior section as a whole is a testament to the club’s “family” ethos, where passion for rugby is matched by a strong community spirit. We welcome new players of all abilities and look forward to another successful and enjoyable season.

Wildcard players have competed at national level, and each season features a popular tour to sunnier destinations such as Spain or Portugal. Training every Wednesday at 7.30pm.
THE PEACOCKS: WALKING RUGBY
Walking rugby offers a slower, highly social version of the game - perfect for older players, those returning from injury, or anyone seeking a gentler introduction. The Peacocks, a joint team with neighbouring clubs, play at festivals and tournaments across the county. Training every Saturday at 10.30am (venues rotate, please enquire).
GET INVOLVED!
Both Touch and Walking rugby are played in a welcoming, social atmosphere, and are a fantastic way to meet new people, stay active, and be part of the rugby family. They truly capture the welcoming, community spirit of Warlingham RFC - a place where there really is a form of rugby for everyone!
