Product Development and Brief History Chris Gabrelcik, Certified Lubrication Specialist, Oil Management Analyst, and president of Lubrication Specialties (LSI), was contacted by International Truck and Engine in 2004 to resolve a warranty issue that involved “stiction” within the Ford 6.0 L Powerstroke engine. Through Gabrelcik’s expertise and LSI’s research and testing, it was discovered that “stiction build-up” was the cause of the failing hydraulic injectors. The LSI team then worked to develop a formula that was specifically designed to clean out the stiction deposits that build up overtime within the oil side of the engine. Because Stiction Eliminator is made up of detergents and dispersants, once treated, the oil side of the engine is clean and capable to function properly again, as opposed to a lubricant that will mask the problem temporarily. After extended research, “stiction” was discovered to be problematic in all diesels. After extended testing, Stiction Eliminator was proven to be an effective solution within ALL diesel engines from the Ford 6 L Powerstroke to the Kenworth 550 CAT and everything in between.


A Deeper Understanding with Scientific Insight INJECTOR DESIGNS To increase efficiency, diesel engine manufacturers have increased the pressure at the tip of the injector. Older engines are in the 2000-4000 psi range, whereas the new diesel engines are as high as 35,000 psi. This increase in pressure atomizes the diesel fuel and provides for a better and more efficient burn (more power, less particulates).

WHY INJECTORS FAIL Unfortunately, there are some problems that come with this injector design improvement. Higher pressures and higher temperatures have a burning effect on the engine’s oil. The engine oil is used as hydraulic fluid to push the injector plunger which in turn pushes out the diesel fuel and atomizes it. Over time, a thin layer of oxidized oil shows up as sluggish acceleration. As times goes on, it actually stops the injector from working completely. This is the point at which the injector needs replaced.

HOW TO REPAIR FAILING INJECTORS A treatment of Hot Shot’s Secret Stiction Eliminator is the best solution for a failing injector. Stiction Eliminator has been tested since 2004 and has been found to be effective in restoring injectors and turbos. During its testing, trucks having performance problems were hooked up to a diagnostic computer and tested. The computer showed anywhere from 1 to 6 injectors needing to be replaced. Stiction Accumulation Stiction can accumulate within all engine models. It is a result of hot oil that burns over a long period of time and remains as a residue type of varnish that causes problems if it is not removed. Think of stiction like oil in a frying pan. If it is left on the stove long enough, the oil will start to burn creating a caramelized stickiness that accumulates on the sides on the pan because of the constant heat and pressure it is withstanding. It is the same way inside an engine; however, the engine is dealing with very small clearances, which leaves very little room for anything other than fresh smooth oil. Another helpful way to think of it would be clogged arteries. When build-up accumulates inside of arteries, the blood flow will suffer because of the blockage that is accumulating. It is the same way with stiction and the oil flow within an engine. With hydraulic injectors, stiction will occur within the injector itself. With injectors that aren’t oil fired, stiction will not build up within the injector, but it will accumulate within the oil side of the engine. Because Stiction Eliminator is a detergent in the form of an oil additive, it will clean everything the oil comes in contact with, including the turbo, o-rings, and oil pump. That’s why Stiction Eliminator is so effective - because it will clean the ENTIRE oil side of the engine including stiction and any other diesel deposits that prevent the oil side from running like it should.
