here was some early morning excitement on the quiet roads of Morrow Meadows Drive near Chesterville, Ohio. Friday June 16th was the unveiling of the Hot Shot’s Secret Pontiac Firebird drag car, piloted by Tom Perini of Marion, Ohio. Employees of Lubrication Specialties, Inc. looked on as the carbon fiber car rolled off the trailer and into the June sunlight. Everyone “oohed and aahed” at the contrasting green color scheme of the purpose-built race car. Even more shocked, though, as Perini hit the ignition and the nitrous-fed engine roared to life.

Tom Perini is an official dealer of Hot Shot’s Secret High Performance Additives, but also an avid drag racer. He is an example of the hard working local “weekend racers” of the great state of Ohio and this country. Perini is quoted as starting his love for racing as a teenager on the streets. “That led me to the track with my buddies, and I’ve been there ever since.” He is now racing the highly competitive, high-speed class of Top Sportsman at tracks all over Ohio and surrounding states.

Always striving to reach new levels of speed, power, and consistency, Tom acquired the 1997 Pontiac Firebird at the end of the 2016 season. It was a bittersweet moment, moving on from his fan-favorite Split-window Corvette, yet the Firebird was lighter, more purpose built (not to mention Perini’s long time love of Pontiac). Perini is also a huge fan of Hot Shot’s Secret FR3 FRICTION REDUCER. “We were testing at Larry Morgan Racing in Newark, Ohio, and used 10 ounces of FR3 in the dry-sump oil system and picked up 10-15 horsepower!” But, less than a year later an opportunity presented itself, and the aforementioned ‘63 ‘Vette returned! ig things are happening in the world of high performance diesel drag racing, and Hot Shot’s Secret is excited to announce its continued partnership with the National Hot Rod Diesel Association (NHRDA) as Title Sponsor for the upcoming 2018 and 2019 seasons. Many new lessons and opportunities have risen during the 2017 season, and will lead to exciting advancements for the diesel community.

problems for some of the world’s largest corporations. continues… The NHRDA is a diesel drag racing and pulling series held primarily across the Western half of the United States with intentions of expanding into parts of Ohio and Kentucky. The 2017 season consisted of 11 events beginning in March and running through the end of September. The Hot Shot’s Secret team was in attendance for every event in 2017 and intends to continue its presence for the upcoming seasons. “There is no better way to truly understand the needs of these drivers than to communicate directly with them at the races. They know more about their engines than anyone and we appreciate all the knowledge they have shared with us throughout the year”, said Hot Shot’s Secret President Chris Gabrelcik.

With the knowledge gained from the 2017 season, Hot Shot’s Secret is preparing to roll out brand new product lines in 2018. The products are currently undergoing extensive third-party testing to ensure the formulas are more stable than the current industry leaders. “Don’t expect these new products to perform at the same level as others like it” said Hot Shot’s Secret Chemist Kevin Adams. “We won’t put the Hot Shot’s Secret logo on them until they are better than everything else on the shelf. That’s just the way we do things around here.”

Phil Rauch and Sancrest LLC began their partnership with Hot Shot’s Secret in July 2017. After being in business for over 13 years, Phil has learned what it takes to operate a fleet of more than 20 heavy duty trucks and sell product out of his shop. ot Shot’s Secret’s Director of Marketing, Kyle Fischer, sits down for a Q&A at the Outlaw Diesel Super Series – Rudy’s Fall Truck Jam with two-time diesel drag racing champion, Trey Sikes, to find out a little more about this popular driver and his unique European sport sedan that catches everybody’s attention at the diesel drag races running with the big trucks. KF: Hey there, Trey. Tell us a little about yourself... TS: My name is Trey Sikes. I’m from Hamlet, North Carolina and I’ve been drag racing for sixteen years. KF: Tell us a little bit about your car. TS: The car is a 2009 BMW 335D. KF: What kind of modifications have you done to it?

TS: It’s got custom hybrid twin turbos. It’s got a methanol injection kit. Mainly just tuning – JR Performance out of Canada did the tuning. KF: How’s it feel to be often the only sedan out at these diesel truck races? TS: Yeah, you know, some people might get intimidated by it. But I like it. I get a little extra attention. And it’s not so bad whenever you are putting them out. KF: And you have put them out with a couple of championships, correct? TS: I’m the 2014 NHRDA National Points Series Champion for Sportsman, and the 2015 World Champion for Sportsman. KF: That’s impressive. And who are some of these sponsors we see on your car? TS: My sponsors are JR Performance – chiptuning.ca out of Canada, Buzzken Exhaust, AA Rodriguez Corp, J&J Performance and Hot Shot’s Secret. KF: Tell us about which Hot Shot’s Secret products you use and what you think about them. TS: I use the FR3 oil treatment and I use the EDT Everyday Diesel Treatment. I’m a big fan of the EDT. I noticed a 2 mpg highway increase. It does feel like it has a little more performance to it. Pretty happy with the results of the FR3 as well. It’s all I’ve ever run in the car since we’ve done the modifications, so I plan on keeping that tradition alive. KF: That’s great to hear that you are enjoying the gains from the Hot Shot’s Secret products. So where can we find you in 2018? TS: In 2018, my plan is to run the entire ODSS series, in the ET and 7.70 classes. I will also be making some appearances at some NHRDA events throughout the country. KF: Thanks for your time, Trey. Fuel Gelling in the Common Rail Engine

he efficiency of fuel filters has come a long way over the past decade. In fact, most common rail engines being produced today include a factory fuel filter rated at a 2-5 micron efficiency, while just a few years ago were being produced with a 10-20 micron rating. Although the tighter tolerances of the fuel filter offer better wear protection to the engine, it provides a much greater risk of becoming plugged with gelled diesel fuel even sooner (at warmer temperatures) than before.

The quality of today’s diesel fuel varies from one station to the next. Diesel fuel is a very complicated mixture of many different compounds. Some of these compounds are referred to as paraffins, which solidify once they reach their “freeze” point. The solid form of these hydrocarbons is a thick, waxy substance that is referred to as the “gelling” of diesel fuel. Every hydrocarbon has its own freeze point, making it difficult to know the exact quality of the fuel when it leaves the pump. Due to the variances of wax content from one batch of fuel to the next, there is not one exact temperature that the fuel begins to gel. However, the threat of fuel gelling typically presents itself around 20 degrees Fahrenheit. When it comes to fighting fuel gelling, there are a few inexpensive options that will save you from headaches and even maintenance expenses. If you are lucky enough to have a heated garage, storing your vehicle in a temperature controlled environment is the easiest way to keep the fuel from reaching its freeze point. If heated storage isn’t an option, another way to consistently increase the quality of fuel and decrease the freeze point is to use a diesel fuel winterization additive like Hot Shot’s Secret DIESEL WINTER ANTIGEL. The DIESEL WINTER ANTI-GEL will lower the freeze point to approximately -40° and reduce fuel line freezing. A quality anti-gel will not only decrease the gel point, but it also contains a wax anti-settling agent to keep the wax dispersed, which keeps your engine running longer. With the common-rail engine beginning to become the normal for most diesel engine manufacturers, it is important for drivers to thoroughly understand the threats of fuel gelling, and how it can affect the performance of these engines during the winter months. It is worth making an extra effort to prevent this issue and protect the machines you rely on.

Hot Shot’s Secret FR3 FRICTION REDUCER is a lubricity enhancing oil additive that increases the lubricating & wear reduction properties of the host oil. The product contains three patented synthetic lubricants that have unique lubricating properties even compared to PAO or mPAO synthetics of the same viscosity. The anti-wear component of the formula is a patented carbon nano particle that fills in microscopic irregularities on the machined surface. The synergy of these components extend the base oil performance in shear stability, oxidation stability, film strength & especially friction reduction.

TOTAL BASE NUMBER or TBN decreases over time as the engine oil neutralizes acidic contaminates. Once these additives are reduced, the engine oil cannot fight corrosion. DIESEL EXTREME is a fully formulated concentrated cleaner that removes all internal diesel injector deposits (IDIDs) including waxy and polymeric deposits. In addition, DIESEL EXTREME contains a top tier level of cetane booster, lubricity additive and fuel stabilizer to provide maximum performance while cleaning the fuel system. To maintain the system cleanliness and performance use EDT additive daily on the fuel side and STICTION ELIMINATOR on the oil side of your engine.

EVERYDAY DIESEL TREATMENT contains a concentrated level of cetane booster which tremendously upgrades power and performance in all diesel equipment. EDT also has a powerful level of injector cleaner, lubricity additives, corrosion inhibitors, water dispersants and fuel stabilizers. FRANTZ FILTER SYSTEMS & MEDIA MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY Oil filtered through the Frantz Filter system will be free of contamination to such a degree that it is considered analytically cleaner than brand new oil and 100% effective for further use.

BYPASS FILTER PROCESS With the Frantz Filter Bypass System, the oil clean-up is achieved by filtering the engine oil from the bottom of the unit through a 4.25 inch dense filter media that is recirculated back to the engine. The combination of specially designed filter media and the correct degree of tautness around the filter’s core creates a filter that is unsurpassed. This filtering process removes the foreign particles and water out of the oil that can damage the engine. The Frantz Filter System removes carbon soot, gum residues, water, abrasives, and tiny metal pieces without degrading the detergents and additives in the oil.

FILTER MEDIA LSI has created a melt-blown filter that has a graduated stage process that filters down to 2 microns, yielding true depth filtration. The filter media has been created from 100% polypropylene and lasts two to three times longer* than cellulose media. Synthetic media has two other advantages – it has more consistent flow rate and holds its form better than cellulosebased filter media.
