FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

Great schools do not exist in a vacuum. At their core is a clear, articulate, and living mission. To fulfill this mission, a professional, dedicated, and passionate faculty works daily to educate the children in their care and set them on the exciting path of learning and growing together.

While no one can doubt the centrality of Lake Tahoe School’s mission and the importance of an excellent faculty, truly great schools have one other essential quality - the partnership between home and school. Acting in concert, parents and school provide a consistent and positive framework for each child’s growth and success. Throughout our twenty-five years, this relationship has been the cornerstone of Lake Tahoe School’s tradition and values and remains invaluable to this day.

Never was the partnership more evident than in the various ways our school community rose to the fundraising opportunity presented to us this past year by Dave and Cheryl Duffield. The Duffields offered us the challenge of raising $3 million for our Annual Fund. In return, they would match our efforts with an additional $9 million if we accomplished this goal. Thanks to you and other involved parents, alums, and like-minded community members, we more than met our goal and raised $12 million. With these monies, we have already paid off our mortgage and are well on our way to completing numerous projects that will benefit our students – now and for many years to come.

As is evident from the pages of this Annual Report, many gifts, both large and small, enabled us to meet our goal and thus provided us with the means and ability to offer an even more challenging and inspiring learning experience for our students and teachers. Each contribution is valued for the difference it is making and the strong support it represents for our school and its programs.

For many reasons, the future is bright for Lake Tahoe School. Time, talent, and treasure – LTS parents are exceedingly generous with each. Coupled with the faculty and staff’s talent and dedication, these attributes create a solid and lasting partnership with each student at the center. Thank you for joining and continuing to support all that we do at Lake Tahoe School.

DAVE & CHERYL DUFFIELD DONATION MATCH

Last school year, longtime LTS parents and supporters Dave and Cheryl Duffield graciously offered a triple challenge match for donations to our school. If, as a school community, we were able to raise a total of $3M by the last day of schoolJune 16, 2022 - the Duffields offered to match each dollar raised, three to one, for an additional $9M. This triple match challenge included all donations made to both our Annual Fund and our Gala. Such gifts are rare in the life of most independent schools, and we are greatly appreciative of the Duffield’s continued generosity and support of LTS.

Through this act of generosity, Lake Tahoe School can now address many Strategic Plan and Capital Campaign goals. In addition, the total $12M provides necessary monies for various campus-wide expenditures and maintenance projects. The list below includes a few of the projects we have been able to prioritize as a result of the Dave and Cheryl Duffield donation.

• Paid off the school’s mortage, allowing us to be debt-free and significantly lessening the pressure on our yearly operating budget.

• Modernize our classrooms with new technology.

• Renovation and remodeling of student spaces.

• Addressed long-deferred maintenance matters.

• Set aside funds for future endowments in tuition assistance, faculty professional development, and general operations.

• Construction of a new music room.

• Construction of a new library.

• Construction of a new middle school classroom.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, our faculty and staff, and most importantly, our students, we thank each of you for your generous gifts to Lake Tahoe School. Your participation in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity will help Lake Tahoe School continue to be the best school in our region and beyond. We could not have made this happen without you.

ANNUAL FUND

2021-2022

$12M+ RAISED

The Annual Fund at Lake Tahoe School provides critical support to enrich learning and to prepare our students for a complex world. A gift to the LTS Annual Fund is the first and most important gift we ask of our current parents, alumni, alumni parents, grandparents, faculty, and friends.

Our Annual Fund provides immediate budgetary support on an annual basis to the areas of greatest need. Your participation helps to ensure Lake Tahoe School’s financial future and helps to inspire contributions from foundations and corporations to support the School as well.

Each year, we use the Annual Fund to further strengthen and to support the people and programs at Lake Tahoe School above and beyond what tuition provides. The Annual Fund is an opportunity we hope you will embrace. Please know that as much as we appreciate leadership gifts, a gift in any amount truly helps.

FROM THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

The Lake Tahoe School Board of Trustees is grateful to our students, families, and faculty and staff for the support you have provided during the 2021-2022 school year.

With the extraordinary support of Dave and Cheryl Duffield and your incredible financial engagement, the School raised nearly $12 million during the 2021-2022 school year, securing the financial stability of the School for many years to come. Your generosity is truly remarkable and allowed the Board to continue its work on the goals outlined in the 20182023 strategic plan. This work included:

• Secured the School’s financial stability, including paying off the mortgage on our beautiful campus.

• Analyzed our current strategic plan, facilitation of community discussions, and initial development of our next 2023-2028 strategic plan.

• Increased focus on marketing and communications by hiring Allie Sacci as Director of Marketing and Communications, updating website and social media, creating alumni newsletter, and planning 25th anniversary marketing and celebrations.

• Planned and implemented several updates on campus including air quality sensors, robust air filters, and a new gate and fencing.

• Formalized School policies and protocols on risk management, safety and security, and volunteers on campus in the employee handbook and family handbook for the 2022-2023 school year.

• Increased financial and risk management oversight, including the hiring of new a new accounting firm and implementation of new payroll systems.

• Continued efforts in creating a sustainable approach to equity and inclusion and social and emotional learning.
