CAVPA Fall 2024 Newsletter

President’s Report

Dear Members,

I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing summer, caught up on those inventory and maintenance projects, and is now in the full swing of the busy fall season. Despite most of our board and members taking a much needed break over the summer, we did manage to make some solid progress on several initiatives.

Following up on our very productive engagement with the competition bureau in June, we provided the them with a national conference venue listing, which includes who the inhouse AV supplier is, to help demonstrate the magnitude of Encore’s monopoly position, as well as a CAVPA member contact list. I have heard back now a few companies who have had calls, or have calls scheduled. Please let us know if you have had a call and ideally a brief summary of how it went so we can try to keep track of how many members that have spoken to so far. We also understand the bureau is also actively speaking to venues and event producers, so certainly very encouraging to see some progress.

Platinum Sponsors:

Along that same theme, CAVPA had a booth at the Canadian Meeting & Events Expo (CMEE) in Toronto Aug 13 & 14, where we spoke to many event planners about our mission, competition specifically, and how they could protect their freedom to choose the AV supplier of their choice at the venue contracting phase by having any costs related to using an external supplier included in the upfront price negotiation. The support and encouragement from event planners was not only universal, but also very encouraging as we work through the slow wheels of bureaucracy. We also spoke to several AV suppliers who are not currently members to encourage them to join CAVPA and help support our mission.

Following CMEE on Aug 14, we conducted our 2nd annual summer town hall from the BB Blanc studio, followed by a CAVPA group dinner. A big thanks to Rennie and BB Blanc for all the support both at CMEE and the Town Hall, as well as TKNL who took care of all our graphics and presentations for both.

Our next event will be the AGM (via Zoom) in January and I hope to see you all online then.

Have a great fall!

PANASONIC PT RQ22KU PROJECTOR TRUSS PLATE

Bespoke worked with a partner firm to design, engineer, and manufacture custom interfacing plates with the end goal of connecting the existing rigging cage points provided on the Panasonic frame, with 12” bolted and 16” spigotted truss.

These plates now ship with all our Panasonic RQ22’s and make projector truss towers easier, safer, and more visually appealing than our previous solution of an inverted truss base and ratchet strap. When using 16” spigotted truss, the projector is connected to the truss while it is still lowered and can then be “walked up / hinged” into a vertical position.
