The end of the school year is full of special traditions and celebrations. The last couple of weeks have been filled with banquets, arts shows, performances, award ceremonies, field days, field trips, and signing days… just to name a few. Each of these events is a precious moment to celebrate the learning and growth of our students this school year. Last night, the Lovejoy Child Development Center Pre-K Graduation took place In addition to being absolutely adorable, the Class of 2036 brings great hope to Lovejoy ISD and our community. Some of the aspirations of the
Class of 2036 include pilot, dancer, mermaid, police officer, and treasure hunter. You can rest assured that we will remind these students of their big dreams when they are seniors in high school. Big dreams, limitless possibilities, and precious hope.
The Senior Class of 2023 has a tough act to follow after our Pre-K students, but I have every confidence that they will rise to the challenge. This afternoon, we had Senior Signing Day followed by Senior Tailgate this evening at 5:15 p.m. Senior Signing Day is a day of celebration where our seniors have the opportunity to share their future plans. The Senior Tailgate this evening at the high school is sponsored by the Senior Booster Club. Families, teachers, students of all grades and the Lovejoy community are all invited to this event You can enjoy food trucks, corn hole, a DJ, and the spirited decorations of the Senior Tailgate vehicles as you say farewell to the Class of 2023.
It is hard to believe that next week is our final week of the school year. Graduation is next Saturday, May 27th, and will take place at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center at 10:00 a.m. Friends and relatives wanting to watch from home can view the ceremony at: https://cutxeventcenter.com/228/Livestream.
We plan to finish the school year strong and give the Senior Class of 2023 a meaningful sendoff.

The Lovejoy Special Education Department was honored to host our annual Special Olympics end-of-the-year banquet on May 17th. At the banquet we celebrated 38 student-athletes that participated in bowling, basketball, and track and field. On hand were the PALS, PAWS, and Best Buddies which have attended practices & competitions with the student-athletes. We look forward to the upcoming year to see even more great competitions from our athletes.
Lovejoy has many traditions and activities that make our students senior year truly memorable... one of them is the Elementary School Senior Breakfast. Graduating Seniors, who went to elementary school in Lovejoy, are invited to their elementary campus with their peers to visit former teachers and reminisce about their Lovejoy educational career one last time. This event is a favorite for students, parents AND teachers who love seeing students they had in class 8-12 years ago!
We would like to thank the Lovejoy Council of PTO's for volunteering to sponsor a monthly birthday celebration for our central administration employees during the 2022-2023 school year. Central administration is the "home" to student nutrition, operations, technology, curriculum and instruction, student services, finance, human resources, and more! Thank you PTO for your impactful employee recognition activities districtwide!

It’s hard to believe that just a few days ago, the Lovejoy High School gym was filled from wall to wall with students taking Advanced Placement (AP) exams.
AP Coordinator, Julie Hirsh, noted “Lovejoy High School administered almost 1900 exams from May 1- May 12. The students were focused and ready for success, and we are proud of their accomplishments.” More than 900 students sat for these comprehensive end of course exams for their AP courses. Using a conservative estimate of 3 hours per exam, that’s a total of 5700 hours of testing, or 237 days!
This year, the College Board added digital exams for seven courses Lovejoy ISD administered digital exams for six of those courses- AP English Language and Culture, AP English Literature and Composition, AP European History, AP World History, AP United States History, and AP Seminar.
Exams are scored on a scale of 1-5, with scores of 3, 4, and 5 indicating a student is qualified for the corresponding college equivalent Many colleges and universities offer students credit for qualifying AP exam scores, equating to less time and money spent in a post-secondary setting.
AP student, Kugu Scott, shared “AP exams are very important to me to get into my dream college and to learn topics at an advanced level. My classes and teachers have provided me with the best support to score high on AP exams The supportive admins make the test-taking process so smooth. I feel prepared and confident to take many AP classes because of the helpful materials and resources provided to me by my teachers and school”.
Lovejoy High School Associate Principal over AP, Mike Montague, shared his appreciation for the time and efforts of all involved in making this year’s AP exam experience a success. Montague said, “It takes a village to raise a child… and to administer 1,883 AP exams! Thank you parents, staff, and community members for your continued support and commitment.”

Students in Mrs. Kelley Bernhard’s 8th grade G/T Geometry class have been working on a summative project to apply their learning this year. Students used theorems, rules of angles, and their own ingenuity to design a scale model and fly a kite.
Over the course of several days, students had the opportunity to work independently or in a group to perfect their designs. On Wednesday, students took to the fields in hopes that their kites would take to the skies. In addition to applying their mathematical knowledge, students were challenged to fly their kites the highest, go the farthest, and stay up the longest.
Mrs. Kelley Bernhard says, “I love having the students do their own research and work on problem-solving. They have worked so hard and learned so much from the process. Many of them are continually modifying and improving their kites. Tomorrow, they will complete a "reflection" on the project.”
Mrs. Caitlin Eldredge, Principal at Willow Spring Middle School, noted, “What a joy it’s been to see students apply their knowledge of geometry concepts to their kites. Students were excited to experience the innovative project and nostalgia felt while flying the kites.”
It has been a FUN and EXCITING week at LCDC. Pre-K graduation was May 18th and 36 Pre-K students will be moving on to Kindergarten next year. LCDC ended the week with a Wacky Water Field Day with games, water, pizza and popsicles!
Lollin College held their 2nd annual Dual Credit Students of Excellence Award Ceremony Monday night which recognized four of our Lovejoy High School students for their excellence in the Health Professionals program. Samatha Belatur, Claire Diaz (not pictured), Caroline Jacob, and Tamanna Verma all received Collin College Health Professions Academic Excellence Awards for the highest final averages in both the lecture/lab and clinical courses required of nursing assistant students. Among these four students, the grade average was greater than ninety-eight percent.
It has been a very busy and fun week at Sloan Creek! 6th grade leadership awards was a great way to kick off the week. Field day was so much fun, fine arts performances and shows have been amazing and our dress up days have been comical. We are definitely taking time to have fun before summer begins.
Lovejoy Fine Arts recognized 23 seniors pursuing fine arts beyond Lovejoy High School on Thursday, May 18th in their annual Fine Arts Celebration (signing) Day.
This cohort of fine arts students collectively completed 4 years of commitment to one or more fine arts programs, spent over 80,000 hours of rehearsal and practice in a LHS performing or visual arts classroom (or at home), and achieved many accolades over the past 4 years as individuals or part of an ensemble/troupe. While much of their high school experience in the fine arts was marked by challenges in managing COVID, these students continue to persevere and work diligently with our fine arts. With the skills, determination, and fortitude these graduates have acquired - we are so excited to see how they leave their mark in the creative sector.
Congratulations to all of our Lovejoy Fine Arts 2023 Graduates, and especially this co-hort with plans to continue their education and college experiences in the performing and/or visual arts.
Thank you for your dedication to our Lovejoy Arts programs and sharing your amazing talents with us for the last 4 years.
