Connect with Katie

On Tuesday, the High School Superintendent-Student Connection Council visited Hart and Puster Elementary kindergarteners to teach them what it means to be a Lovejoy Leopard. A big part of being a Leopard is our graduate profile. Our graduate profile was developed by stakeholders and is a foundational component of our discernibly different approach to education. (Link to full Lovejoy ISD Graduate Profile)
Students do not achieve the graduate profile solely in high school. It is a culmination of educational experiences from elementary through high school that give them the opportunities needed to grow and develop over time. A strategic target in our LOVEJOY 2030 Strategic Plan prioritizes emphasis of our graduate profile pre-K-12. Our High School SuperintendentStudent Connection Council identified that a challenge to this is the length and vocabulary used in the document. Using this challenge as motivation, we set a goal of sharing the graduate profile with kindergarteners.
Our high school students identified three behaviors in simple terms essential to achieving our graduate profile:
Leopards are: Kind
Curious and Do Their Best!
At the end of the presentation, the kindergarten students were given a Lovejoy Leopard keychain and coloring page. 100 kindergarteners yelling “Lovejoy Leopards” and “Rollpards” will put you in a great mood. There is nothing that makes me prouder than big Leopards teaching our little Leopards. We owe the kindergarten teachers for pulling a grandparent move on them. We showed up, got the kindergarteners excited, gave them a gift, and then left. We love you kindergarten teachers!
Lovejoy ISD will implement and emphasize the PK12 Lovejoy Graduate Profile with students, staff, parents, and community.
Strategy 2.2.1
PK-12 emphasis of the Lovejoy ISD Graduate Profile.

Katie Kordel SuperintendentCongratulations to our Lovejoy ISD music teachers! For the 4th year in a row, Lovejoy ISD has been recognized by the NAMM Foundation as a "Best Community for Music Education!!"
Now in its 24th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.
According to the NAMM Foundation, research into music education continues to demonstrate educational/cognitive and social skill benefits for children who make music, such as:
Students who are involved in music are not only more likely to graduate high school but also to attend college as well.
Listening skills in musically trained children are enhanced by the ability to: perceive speech in a noisy background, pay attention, and keep sounds in memory. Social benefits include conflict resolution, teamwork skills, and how to give and receive constructive criticism.
Thank you to our Lovejoy music teachers, administrators, parents, Board of Trustees and Lovejoy community for your continued investment and support in Lovejoy's music education programs!
Lovejoy ISD would like to give a BIG shout out to our 2022-2023 Community Partners! The Lovejoy Community Partner program is designed to connect local businesses with our Lovejoy Community, as well as support Lovejoy ISD through revenue generation! Thank you The Walker Group - CB Apex, Realtors, My Community Credit Union, Advanced Foot & Ankle Care Specialists, Meridian Wealth Management, LLC, and The Tutoring Center, Allen TX!!
This is an opportunity for parents and community members to connect with Lovejoy ISD Trustees and Superintendent Katie Kordel in an informal setting.

The Region 2-5A girls golf tournament is generally one of the most competitive in the state. On Monday and Tuesday, five teams (including Lovejoy) rose to the top of the leaderboard in the battle to finish within the top 3 teams and advance to the State Tournament.
After battling against the heavy winds coming off Lake Sam Ray Hubbard on Day 2, Lovejoy and Liberty were tied for third place at the end of regulation play. The teams entered a sudden death playoff - lasting just one hole. In thrilling fashion, Lovejoy was victorious, capturing the Third Place Title! They are also the first girls golf team in Lovejoy history to advance to the State Tournament.
The Regional Team was made up of seniors Emma Blair and Katie Haeussler, sophomores Katelyn Coleman, Sofia Denham and Emily York, and Freshman Jordan Wheelis.
The Class 5A state tournament is scheduled for May 15-16 at White Wing Golf Club in Georgetown.
The girls track and field team had a great showing at the District 13 5A Championship. The JV girls are the District Champions and the Varsity girls are the District Runner-Up.

The Leopard Fishing Team attended the Regional tournament at Lake Ray Roberts over the weekend competing with 277 boats. While two teams will be moving on to State, two teams' seasons came to an end. Despite the challenge of the wind, all 4 teams were able to weigh in fish. Congratulations to our anglers on a great season and to the two teams moving on to State at Lake Sam Rayburn next month.

The LHS World Languages Department is excited to announce the results of the National French Contest, le Grand Concours. This is a very challenging test that goes above and beyond what we cover in class. Students are ranked nationally, and we had a record number of students who earned medals, including a perfect score, and certificates of recognition. Félicitations!
The LHS chapter of the French Honor Society, la Société Honoraire de Français, is proud to announce its newest inductees. These students are enrolled in level III or higher, have maintained an A average in all their French classes and at least a B in all other courses. We'd also like to celebrate Neola Edwin for being our first ever multiple year member. Félicitations à tous!
Congratulations to LHS teachers, Michelle McClelland and Shawn Lewis, who have been honored with this month's Leopard Overwatch Award for going above and beyond to ensure the safety of all our students and staff members.
"Ms. McClelland and Coach Lewis help keep LHS safe by stopping people in halls if they are not wearing proper identification (examples include visitor stickers or substitute lanyards). They have identified people in the parking lots who look suspicious, and they are very observant of student behavior and student needs. Lastly, they communicate safety opportunities to our Safety and Administration teams regularly!"
Thank you and congratulations, Michelle and Shawn!
