Letter From The President

Dear Members and Stakeholders,

Sweet, sweet summertime! ☀

It’s been a wet one so far in 2025, but as we enter the dog days of summer, there's so much to look forward to — golf outings with friends and colleagues, happy hours, weddings, backyard parties, time in the great outdoors, family fun, ice cream runs, and more. As you enjoy everything summer has to offer, I want to encourage you to make a conscious effort to support local businesses. Every dollar spent with a Butler County-based organization circulates 2 to 4 times more within our local economy compared to dollars spent at companies based outside our region. That impact is tremendous — and here’s why:

Local businesses are more likely to hire local residents

They purchase goods and services locally, supporting even more area businesses

They strengthen our local tax base, helping fund vital services like schools, infrastructure, and public safety

They create a unique sense of place, giving our community its identity and charm

They foster stronger social connections that make Butler County feel like home

They help build a resilient local economy, better equipped to weather change

Our small, locally owned businesses need us now more than ever. Whether you ' re looking for goods, services, or unique experiences, you'll find it right here in Butler County. Our membership directory is easily accessible on our website, making it easier than ever to shop, hire, and support local. I hope you’ll join me in keeping your bucks local and making the most of the summer ahead. It is an absolute privilegeto serve as President of this Chamber. The people and organizations I interact with daily are a true inspiration. Together, we are making an impact and I can’t wait to see what we accomplish next.

With deepest appreciation,

President

Legislative CornerChamber Special

The Butler County Chamber of Commerce, led by President Jordan Grady, recently participated in a successful advocacy trip to Harrisburg, advancing key initiatives for the community. Jordan joined discussions with the Pennsylvania House Liquor Control Committee, working alongside Representative Marci Mustello, Nate Bacher of Recon Brewing, and Jeff Gonano of Lolev Beer to advocate for the Fairness in Brewing Act.

This legislation aims to bring fairness and growth opportunities to the brewing industry, an essential part of Pennsylvania’s economy. Meetings with the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development provided opportunities to explore funding for local projects and discuss initiatives to strengthen Butler County’s economic growth. Additionally, Jordan engaged with Eric Kratz, Executive Director for the PA Senate Labor Committee, and Representative Aaron Bernstine to address updates to youth labor laws and revisit the brewing act.

The visit also included a guided tour of the Pennsylvania House floor, led by Representative Abby Major, and a productive second day with Pete, Julie, and Logan Sebock of Clear Choice Enterprises.

Special thanks go to Carrie DelRosso, Government Affairs Chair, and Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC for their support in making this advocacy trip impactful. Through efforts like these, the Chamber continues to drive positive change for Butler County.

Volunteer Leads National Recognition Effort

Ahead of Washington’s Trail 1753 Anniversary

As America prepares to celebrate its 250th birthday, one Butler County resident is working tirelessly to ensure a pivotal piece of local and national history gets the recognition it deserves. Martin O’Brien, 94, founder and president of Washington’s Trail 1753, has spent over two decades championing the legacy of George Washington’s early journey through Western Pennsylvania—an expedition that passed directly through Butler County.

What began as a personal passion project sparked by visits to Harmony has grown into a nonprofit organization marking its 25th anniversary this year. The trail, highlighted by blue signs and a call-in audio tour, guides visitors through key local destinations such as Moraine State Park, Zelienople, and Harmony, blending history with tourism and community pride.

O’Brien now hopes to see Washington’s historic route designated as a National Historic Trail a process that requires congressional approval. With support from Congressman Mike Kelly and Senator John Fetterman, legislation has been introduced and will be reconsidered in the upcoming session. As O’Brien says, “That would be the highlight of our work on Washington’s Trail 1753.”

From preserving the past to shaping the future of regional tourism and education, Washington’s Trail 1753 continues to honor the legacy of one of America’s most defining journeys.

Children’s Advocacy Center

The Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) of Butler County plays a vital role in protecting and uplifting the most vulnerable members of our community—children and their families impacted by abuse. Located in a child-friendly, welcoming environment, the CAC brings together a team of multidisciplinary professionals to investigate allegations of child abuse in a way that is centered around the child’s wellbeing and emotional safety.

Rather than requiring children to repeat their story multiple times to various agencies, the CAC allows them to speak once to a trained forensic interviewer, while representatives from law enforcement, child protective services, and medical and mental health professionals observe and collaborate behind the scenes. This coordinated approach not only reduces additional trauma for the child but also strengthens the quality and effectiveness of investigations.

Beyond interviews, the CAC provides a range of supportive services including advocacy, trauma-focused therapy, and referrals to medical care. The team is dedicated to ensuring that both the child and their non-offending caregivers are supported through every step of the healing process. They also offer education and prevention programs to schools, community groups, and professionals, aiming to raise awareness and reduce the risk of future abuse.

Children’s Advocacy Center

To continue this critical work, the CAC relies on the generosity of individuals, businesses, and community partners. One opportunity to support their mission is by participating in or sponsoring their upcoming Golf Outing, scheduled for Monday, July 14, 2025, at the Butler Country Club. This 18-hole, scramble-style event will feature lunch, dinner, beverages, raffles, contests, and a silent auction. All proceeds will benefit the CAC and their continued efforts to provide safety, support, and hope to children across Butler County.

To learn more about the event, sponsorship opportunities, or the Center's year-round impact, visit www.butlercountycac.org. Every swing, every sponsorship, and every show of support helps the CAC continue to be a safe place where healing begins.

As President of Golf and Resort Operations for the St. Barnabas Health System and PGO Board President, Douglas has modernized the organization with themes like 2024’s “Traction to Momentum” and 2025’s “Let’s Get Better Together!” These strategies have energized members and positioned the PGO for long-term success.

Douglas’s leadership emphasizes collaboration, consistency, and followthrough. “He’s one of the most selfless leaders I’ve ever worked with,” says Josh DeNinno, PGO Vice President and General Manager at Conley Resort & Golf Club.
