The Ellen O’Brien Gaiser Center (Gaiser Center) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1971. We are Butler County’s longest-standing addiction treatment center and have earned a strong reputation as one of the region’s most trusted programs for substance use disorder. With experienced and compassionate staff, modern facilities, and an inpatient program recognized as a Pennsylvania Center of Excellence for opioid use disorder treatment, we are uniquely positioned to provide the highest quality care for the families we serve.

Over the years, we have grown from a men ’ s drop-in program to a comprehensive resource focused on long-term treatment options for both men and women. The Gaiser Center incorporates evidence-based, genderspecific, client-centered treatment modalities along with education and support in a welcoming and encouraging environment. Today, we operate three locations in Butler County, including our newest location, Ellen’s House, the county’s first sober living home exclusively serving women and their children.

The Gaiser Center is led by Executive Director Joe Mahoney, who joined the organization in 2021. Since coming on board, Joe has focused on strengthening our behavioral health services and medicationassisted treatment programs. Thanks to his leadership, we received the Community Champion Award in 2024 from the Butler County Chamber of Commerce. This award recognizes local organizations that go above and beyond to make Butler County a better place to live.
