Dear Collegiate Community,

As I reflect on this past year, I am filled with gratitude for the remarkable generosity and unwavering support of our Collegiate family. Every gift to Collegiate has had a direct and meaningful impact on the lives of our students, helping us fulfill our mission to inspire academic excellence, extraordinary character, and global citizenship.

Your contributions are more than numbers on a page—they are investments in our students’ futures. Every dollar raised strengthens our academic programming, providing innovative resources and opportunities that allow our students to thrive in the classroom. Your support has also enhanced our Arts and Athletics programs, ensuring that our students can explore their talents, pursue their passions, and achieve their personal best, both on stage and on the field.

Thanks to your generosity, we can offer an educational experience that nurtures the whole child and equips our students with the skills, knowledge, and character to make a positive impact in the world.

On behalf of our faculty, staff, and especially our students, thank you for believing in the power of a Collegiate education and for helping us continue to grow stronger together.

Our Community, Our Vision: Louisville Collegiate School’s 2025–2030 Strategic Plan

Since 1915, Louisville Collegiate School has been defined by its people — the students, teachers, families, and alumni whose relationships form the heart of our community. For more than a century, those connections have shaped not only what we teach, but how we live and learn together. With the launch of Our Community, Our Vision, the 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, we are building on that legacy. Born from two years of collaboration across our community, this plan blends the best of our past with a vision for the future that is bold, inclusive, and deeply Collegiate.

The journey toward this plan began with our most recent accreditation by the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS). The visiting team’s commendations confirmed Collegiate’s strengths in academics, faculty excellence, and character education. It also encouraged us to explore new possibilities. How might we better prepare students for an unpredictable future? How could we deepen belonging? What would it take to secure financial health for decades to come?

The Strategic Planning Steering Committee, composed of trustees, administrators, faculty, alumni, and parents, embraced these questions as an opportunity. Their charge was to create a mission-driven, forward-thinking plan shaped by as many voices as possible.

From the start, this was an inclusive process. Parents gathered in evening forums to share their hopes for their children’s growth. Students participated in focus groups where they spoke candidly about what inspires them and where they see room for change. Faculty and staff contributed through workshops and surveys, offering ideas grounded in both research and classroom experience. Alumni from across the country reflected on how Collegiate shaped their lives and provided ideas

for how the school might continue to do the same for future generations.

By the end of this process, we had collected hundreds of survey responses, detailed notes from dozens of conversations, and a wide range of perspectives. One clear theme emerged: Collegiate’s strength lies in its community.

85% Tuition

The themes from these conversations became the backbone of Our Community, Our Vision. The plan centers on six strategic priorities that reflect our mission and position us for continued success.

The first priority, Academic Excellence, will prepare students for future challenges with a curriculum that is research-based, competency-driven, and rich in experiential learning. Goals include promoting balance between academics, arts, and athletics; expanding service and experiential learning; fostering collaboration across divisions; and launching a mentorship program for faculty and staff.

Community & Belonging commits us to embedding inclusion into every part of school life. We will develop a visible, actionable belonging plan, deepen partnerships across Louisville, increase diversity among students and staff, and create spaces where underrepresented voices are heard and valued.

Health & Wellness will ensure that mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing remain at the heart of the Collegiate experience. This includes expanding counseling services, promoting healthy habits, integrating character development into daily life, and supporting sustainable balance for faculty, staff, and students.

Financial Sustainability will secure Collegiate’s future through goals such as doubling our endowment to $25 million, diversifying revenue streams, reducing reliance on tuition, and investing in faculty excellence. This priority also includes building toward a funded admissions model to expand access for students from all backgrounds.

Stakeholder Engagement will strengthen relationships with students, families, alumni, and community partners. Initiatives include enhancing opportunities for local and global citizenship, deepening alumni connections, improving communications, and acting on feedback from all stakeholders.

Finally, Campus Development will guide enhancements to our facilities so they continue to support learning, extracurricular engagement, and wellness. Plans include modernizing spaces, upgrading technology, improving safety, and increasing campus connectivity to foster collaboration.

While the plan provides a clear direction, it is the people behind it who make it meaningful. The Strategic Plan Co-Chairs, the Steering Committee, and numerous faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and students generously contributed their time and insight to ensure that this plan reflects both our aspirations and our realities. Head of School Rob Macrae emphasized that the process began with listening: “We knew this plan had to belong to everyone. That’s why we listened first, then wrote. It’s the only way to ensure our vision is truly a shared one.”

The launch of Our Community, Our Vision is not the end of the process — it is the beginning. Over the next five years, these priorities will guide decisions large and small. We will measure progress, share updates with the community, and adapt when needed to ensure we stay true to our mission. Transparency will be key, with regular updates appearing in electronic newsletters, future editions of the Bulletin, and on our website.

Already, the plan is taking shape. Faculty are exploring new experiential learning partnerships, wellness

program expansions are in discussion, and early steps toward campus improvements are underway.

Strategic plans can sometimes feel abstract, but at Collegiate, we see them in the everyday lives of our students. A belonging initiative might mean a ninth grader finds a mentor who shares her background and experiences. An academic program could give a fifth grader the chance to present research to an audience beyond the classroom. A campus upgrade might create a space where students collaborate after school on a shared project. Every goal in Our Community, Our Vision is about turning ideas into experiences that shape the lives of our students.

As we move forward, one thing remains constant: the heart of Collegiate is, and always will be, its community. For more than a century, that community has defined who we are. Today, it shapes where we are going. Our Community, Our Vision is our shared commitment to ensuring that the future is as bright as the possibilities ahead.

Dear Collegiate Supporters:

We are proud to celebrate all that our community accomplished together at Louisville Collegiate School this past year. Through generous giving and dedicated volunteerism, families, alumni, faculty, and friends united to enrich the student experience in numerous ways. This strong and spirited community not only fuels a transformative education—it is also poised to bring Collegiate’s bold strategic plan to life— advancing Collegiate’s place as a resource for learning, leadership, and global citizenship for generations to come

“The Gap” in 2024-25

Every student at Louisville Collegiate School benefits from a strong Annual Fund, because each year, the school’s cost to educate every student is higher than the tuition. The difference between cost and tuition is what independent schools refer to as “the Gap.” In the 2024-25 school year, “the Gap” at Collegiate was more than $2,300 per student.

In the 2024-25 school year, the Collegiate community came together to bridge the Gap through:

The Annual Fund = $668,061 Events and Community Partnerships = $136,211 Endowment Draw of 5% = $495,121

Alumni Engagement: A Year of Growth and Connection

The 2024-25 Alumni Association Board was composed of 31 dedicated members representing a wide range of class years. Every board member supported the Annual Fund, helping to lead the alumni community to a 17% participation rate—more than double the national average for independent schools and a true testament to their leadership and Collegiate pride.

Throughout the year, the Alumni Association expanded its offerings and deepened engagement through a mix of new and returning events. Two standout additions included the Women in History Oral History Drive and the inaugural Alumnae Artists & Authors Luncheon, both designed to honor and preserve the voices and talents of our alumnae. We also hosted a regional gathering in New York City in October, connecting alumni across generations.

We reimagined the Alumni Awards as the Alumni and Faculty Celebration, a vibrant evening that brought honorees and the broader community together in a fresh, engaging format. We also continued traditions like the Jingle & Mingle Holiday Reception, fall Alumni Games, the William M. Street ’09H Leadership Ceremony, the Senior Class Alumni Induction Luncheon, the Alumni Connection Photo, and the ever-popular Donuts and Dona Nobis before the Holiday Program. A highlight was the return of the Alumni Basketball Game, adding spirit and connection to the winter break.

As part of the Alumni Co-Edge program, the Association hosted four career panels where alumni shared realworld insights and advice with the Class of 2025. These conversations emphasized the value of Collegiate connections and provided meaningful guidance as students prepared for life after graduation.

The Alumni Association also continues to manage the Glenmary Shop, Collegiate’s spirit store, which gives back to the school through donations and event sponsorships. Proceeds supported graduation gifts, student memorabilia, and community-building efforts, further strengthening the bond between alumni and Collegiate.

Thanks to the creativity and generosity of our alumni community, 2024–25 was a banner year for engagement—and the momentum continues to grow.

Revenue: $69,578

Expenses/Donations: $57,998

Trivia Night: Our Biggest and Best Yet

We are beyond grateful for our incredible community. This year’s Trivia Night, held on February 22, 2025, was a resounding success, uniting hundreds of enthusiastic players and donors in support of Collegiate.

We’re thrilled to share that the event raised $136,211 net, which was $16,000 over the budgeted goal, thanks to the generosity and spirit of our entire community. Whether you played, donated, sponsored, or participated from afar, your support made this night unforgettable. Funds were generated from ticket sales, raffle items, sponsorships, and event extras, including mulligans, the Bourbon Pull, Spring Parties, and games. With a sell-out crowd of 370 players, it was truly a collective effort that made this event our most successful to date.

This evening would not have been possible without our phenomenal Trivia Night co-chairs, Kelly Will and Nicki Powers, and the dedicated planning committee whose creativity and energy brought it all

to life. We’re also grateful to our current families for curating thoughtful and generous grade raffle baskets, to our sponsors and partners for their steadfast support, and to Trivia Master

Justin Shuster and Emcee Paul Augustus for keeping the energy high throughout the night.

Proceeds from Trivia Night directly support faculty salaries, professional development, and essential programming in academics, arts, and athletics— enhancing the Collegiate experience for every student.

Thank

You to Our Trivia Night Sponsors

We extend our sincere appreciation to the 2025 Trivia Night sponsors whose generosity made this event possible. Their commitment plays a vital role in supporting Collegiate and enriching our community.

We also wish to recognize our Annual Community Partners (featured on page 29) for their ongoing dedication and support throughout the year. We are grateful to acknowledge their contributions here alongside our event sponsors.

Like most independent schools and universities, Louisville Collegiate School has an established permanent endowment that supports the school year after year, sustaining vital and unique elements of the Collegiate experience. Each donation to the endowment has been invested. And each year, as the endowment grows, Collegiate is able to factor a prudent portion of the earnings into the operating budget.

As of June 30, 2025, Collegiate’s endowed funds total $13,390,144. While this is small for a school that has been in existence for more than 100 years, we are extremely grateful to the individuals and families who helped grow the endowment by establishing named endowment funds. Each year, the endowment draw has a positive impact on our general budget. The draw for the 2024-25 school year is $495,121.

The Power of Endowment: Honoring Great Teaching, Fueling Lifelong Learning

At Louisville Collegiate School, our endowment plays a vital role in sustaining excellence across our programs. One of the most meaningful ways this support comes to life is through endowed teaching awards, which provide faculty with the resources and inspiration to grow, reflect, and bring fresh energy to the classroom.

Funded by the Helen Kent Longley Distinguished Chair for Teaching, this biennial award celebrates an exceptional educator who brings passion, curiosity, and a deep commitment to Collegiate and its students. The chair not only honors the legacy of beloved teacher Helen Kent Longley, but also ensures that outstanding faculty have opportunities for continued professional development, travel, and exploration. In doing so, it strengthens the school’s mission to inspire a lifelong love of learning—both for students and the teachers who guide them.

Below, Science Department Chair and Middle School Teacher Emily Conn shares how her recent experience as the Longley Chair shaped her perspective, renewed her energy, and enriched the work she brings back to her students.

"This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to travel to France and Switzerland thanks to the Helen Kent Longley Distinguished Chair award money that I received. After the intensity of the school year, it was such a gift to step back and experience places where life is lived a little differently. What stayed with me the most is how much the culture in these places values things we often rush past—fresh food, time with people, art, history, nature, and a sense of belonging to your community."

My two daughters and husband, joined me for the trip to Paris, where I was immediately struck by how thoughtfully the city is built for people to enjoy everyday life. There are public parks and green spaces everywhere, and cafés and restaurants that prioritize fresh, local ingredients, not for luxury, but because it’s just the norm. People sit outside, talk to each other, and take their time. Meals aren’t

It reminded me that when we teach about the past, we’re not just teaching dates and facts— we’re sharing stories about people who made difficult choices and lived complicated lives. That’s something I want to bring back more intentionally into my classroom.

rushed. The food is simple and high quality, and what stood out to me is that much of it is sourced locally. This doesn’t just support farmers and small businesses—it also reduces the carbon emissions that result from transporting food long distances. As someone who teaches a unit on climate change, it was powerful to see how these everyday choices can make a real difference. It gave me a more concrete example to bring back to my students: that sustainability isn’t always about big, dramatic actions that my students often don’t have control over, but can also be achieved through thoughtful habits and priorities.

From Paris, we headed to the Loire Valley, where we explored a quieter side of France. We visited beautiful castles like Château d’Ussé, which inspired the story of Sleeping Beauty, and Château de Chenonceau, which spans a river and played a quiet but important role in helping Jews escape from Nazi-occupied France during World War II. Being in those spaces made history feel alive, personal, emotional, and real. It reminded me that when we teach about the past, we’re not just teaching dates and facts—we’re sharing stories about people who made difficult choices and lived complicated lives. That’s something I want to bring back more intentionally into my classroom.

After France, we traveled to Switzerland, where we spent time in the Lauterbrunnen Valley and later in Crans-Montana and Zermatt. The landscapes were absolutely stunning—snow-capped peaks, huge waterfalls, wide green valleys, and clear views of the

Matterhorn. We hiked, rode cable cars up into the mountains, and just took in the scale of it all. There was something really grounding about being in such a vast, beautiful place. It reminded me how important it is for students to feel a sense of awe and connection with the natural world, especially as we think about teaching science and the environment in a way that builds both understanding and care.

Coming back from this trip, I feel more grounded and more inspired. It helped me remember the value of slowing down, paying attention, and making space for joy and curiosity—things I hope to model and encourage more of in my classroom. I’m so grateful for the opportunity this award gave me, not just to travel, but to see the world (and my teaching) through a fresh lens.

INCOME

Named for the school’s founders, Virginia Perrin Speed (18791968) and her husband, William Shallcross Speed (1873-1955), the Speed Society consists of individuals and families who make a legacy gift to Collegiate’s planned giving program.

JOINING THE SPEED SOCIETY

Planned gifts can provide a variety of benefits which may include life income, continued use of gift property, an avoidance of capital gains tax and immediate tax deduction.

Contrary to popular misconception, nearly everyone can make a planned gift to Louisville Collegiate School at some level and a multitude of simple options exist:

BEQUEST

Making a bequest to Louisville Collegiate School can be easily accomplished by including a few sentences in a will or Revocable Living Trust. Bequests are flexible and can be adjusted-perhaps for this reason, 75% of planned gifts come in this form! Legal and financial advisors will know how best to structure a will to meet a donor’s financial needs.

LIFE INSURANCE

Whole-life insurance policies represent a valuable opportunity to make a major gift that benefits both the donor and the school in many ways. It is incredibly simple to name the School as a beneficiary on your policy.

RETIREMENT PLANS

Naming Collegiate as the beneficiary of a retirement plan (IRA, 401K, or 403B) is an easy and tax efficient way to leave a legacy gift. Given current tax laws, beneficiaries other than spouses may be taxed on the income, but charities such as Louisville Collegiate School are able to receive the full amount of remaining retirement assets.

OTHER PLANNED GIFTS

A properly chosen planned gift vehicle may offer significant tax benefits and retirement income to the donor, while imparting a much larger gift than imagined.
