Hints and Tips from Francine From Francine’s Facebook Training Forum

WISDOM TIP NO1:

THE IMPORTANCE OF ATTRACTIVE MODELS Ladies, this is something that I have learnt over time and has a major impact on your photos and advertising your work. We all say that beauty is only skin deep and that everyone is beautiful and that’s great, but not everyone looks good in a photo. Have you ever noticed how all of the top lash techs such as Irina Levchuk or Nadia Afanaseva all have similar looking models on their gallery pages - they all are attractive (beautiful brows, lots of lashes, beautiful deep blue, rich green or brown eyes) - this is not coincidence. When posting photos of your lashes on your business page to advertise your work to clients, It is important that you only post good pictures (if you want to attract clients that is) - just think of the sort of women that model cosmetic products or clothes - they are all beautiful because the retailer wants you to buy the product. Only 5% of my clients ever get photographed and make it onto my facebook or webpage because the other 95% do not take nice pictures unfortunately. And this 5% of clients tend to be younger, have dark natural lashes, lots of them, beautiful coloured eyes and good lashes. This girl in the photo is a model that I use because she takes great photos and has great natural lashes (I have a little book of ladies that just come to me to be models only). I have found that the best clients that walk through your door and will give a good photo opportunity are those with darker skin, hair and eyes, and you can almost throw the lashes at them and they look amazing, clients with fair lashes and light pigmented eyes will always pose a challenge. 7

Quickly moving on from this - have you ever worked your butt off on a client only to be then disappointed with the outcome, yet other clients you feel you have done an awful job but when they open their eyes they look amazing? - this can a lot of time be due to their natural beauty - if a client has an unattractive eye (sagging lids etc) all lashes will do is accentuate that. Lashes accentuate natural beauty (hope that didn’t offend anyone - but in my own experience I have found it to be true). So remember this when advertising your work to potential clients - however on here we want to see everything so keep posting all of your pictures so we can continue to share and help.

WISDOM TIP NO2:

TAKE AWESOME PHOTOS Here are a few photos I’ve taken over the months using the same angles and techniques discussed in today’s tutorial. My favourite apps to use are: ‘Morebeaute2’ (this app is amazing for smoothing the skin) and ‘ps express’ on I phone has lots of filters to lighten skin, darken the eyes etc

When editing photos it’s fine to edit the skin etc but it’s important you retain the realistic illusion of the lashes so that your work can be seen clearly. It’s important to edit photos because cameras rarely capture the true beauty that we see in front of us - and photos will sell your work remember this You must constantly upload your photos and show case your work otherwise how will potential clients know what work you produce?

I’m not a fan of these fancy borders some people put round their photos / I personally think it looks cheap, but instead keep it simple and clean and if you can water mark your work. A fantastic photo editing program for pc is ‘pic monkey ‘/ that’s what I use for my close up colour shots etc - lots of fun to have on that. If you can water mark your work then do so / there are many apps available for this.

Lash Art Winner Kit Stephenson iLashWorks has officially been establishes as a business for almost 5 years. I currently have been doing lashes for 9 years.

What do I feel sets apart a successful lash artist from everyone else? Always look at the bigger picture and step outside you comfort zone. You must have a passion for adhering tiny little strands to an eyelash in order to help a woman feel and look her best. Never be afraid to take chances and always learn something new! Love what you do! What is my secret to producing amazing lashes?

Practice, Practice, Practice! What advice I would give beginning lash artists? Educate, Educate, Educate! You can never get enough education! Ask questions. Even if you think they are stupid...ask them anyways. What advice would I give to people wanting to up their skills? Yes! go for it! Please do! There are not enough skilled lash artists in the world, but there are a lot of halfway skilled artists that do not know

what they are doing. This is sad. Please strive to up your skills to the best you can be. This is not all about the money. If you do not have the passion for what you do, please stop. Do something else. How does it feel to win Lash Inc- lash artist of the year? I’m very excited for the opportunity to have my work displayed in an international publication, read and enjoyed by lash artists everywhere. It’s an honour to have been selected, and exciting to be featured with the professional standards of the platform Lash Inc provides to the lash community. Thank you.

@MelVicMakeup out and about .... Over the past few months I have been so very busy working on all kinds of projects the most prestigious one was working on the set of ‘Downton Abby’, what can I say but WOW! the set was amazing, the cast and crew was all just so upbeat and fun to work with, no one no matter how tired on set was grumpy and we were on set for 5am in the beautiful and stunning countryside of Oxfordshire in a secret location. The episodes I worked on will be on TV very soon, which is the best part of being makeup artists, is you get to see your work on the big screen! I have also done a number of photo shoots one being from the front cover image

on this edition of Lash Inc and another body art shoot for my upcoming book that should hopefully be finished by the end of the year. I have also been involved with working with the amazing ‘Alyn Waterman’, he asked me to work with him on a TV promo for ‘Life Time’ TV on Sky television with the production company BSKYB, soon to be aired to promote a new series ‘Dance Mums’ and after having my Hysterectomy operation in April I am finally going back to teach my lovely students at Wigan and Leigh college. Melissa Cubbage@LashesbyMelissa I mentored Melissa when she did her teacher training a number of years ago and we kept in touch, she has just set up a business specialising in LVL, the lash lift system that I can say really does work, I have tried and tested it for you and as you can see from the before and after shots of my eyes the after picture shows how lifted my lashes was and how much thicker and luscious they looked too! The LVL lash treatment really enhances the eyes, great for holidays, swimming or just everyday if you do not like to wear lashes or mascara and lasts for approximate 6 weeks. I would highly recommend this treatment as the benefits are great and I really did feel like I had just had surgery and had an actual eye lift with the difference that it made to my eyes, especially as my eyes are quite hooded. Go to http://pro.nouveaubeautygroup.com/lvl/ for more information on training and the treatment.

Invisible Radiance Foundation and Concealer by Daniel Sandler £28.00 I have chosen to review this product as it is a product I have used in my makeup kit for a while and it actually does work wonders on the skin and works great for photographic makeup or brides. The fluid gives a dewy fresh look to the skin and is not heavy in texture at all even though it has great coverage. The best part of this product though is there is a lid on the top and when opened it reveals a mirror with a concealer that is perfect for hiding dark shadows under the eyes and it really does help to open up the eyes without ageing the skin which I find some other products do. This product is a firm winner with me and I would highly recommend buying and investing in this quirky two in one product. Another great tip I learnt is that you can apply for a discount whether you are a student or a professional makeup artists, see his website for more details.
