The Secret Behind the

Most Successful Lash Artists

You’re looking at yourself in the mirror just after getting the most amazing set of lashes you’ve ever had. You look stunning, you feel amazing, and your confidence soars. What is different this time? Why are these so perfect? If you’ve ever had this experience with lashes, or a beauty service of any kind, it wasn’t by chance and it didn’t just happen. A very specific methodology and process was followed by the person who made you look and feel so wonderful. 3 - Lashes

With eyelash extensions, there’s so much more to it than simply applying extensions to lashes. Herein lies the secret to how the most amazing sets of lashes are created — this time, your beauty was defined by an artist, not just a technician.

Don’t Just Get Technical, Get Artistic The difference between a technician and an artist is simple, but important to understand. A lash technician has been trained in application and technique. All lash artists are expert technicians — application and technique are fundamental. But artistry is how you really define someone’s beauty, and it’s really what defines you as a lash artist. It’s the difference between randomly drawing a bunch of lines on a piece of paper versus purposely drawing lines on a piece of paper that connect, take shape, have meaning,

and look beautiful. “When lashing, utilize your palette — the different curls, colors, diameters, and lengths. These will assist you in looking at the eye in a different way.” says Borboleta Beauty Master Educator/Artist Megan Tandberg. “You literally have to see the eye in a new light. You have to factor in the shape of the brow, the shape of the eye, even the color of the eye can alter the choices you make when crafting a set of lashes.”

Never Plateau As with any artist, a true lash artist dedicates themselves to elevating their craft to higher levels of expertise only obtainable through continued education. As it is said, if you’re always a student, you’ll never plateau. The most successful lash artists all have this in common — an unquenchable thirst and desire to learn and become better. “I’ve been in this industry for ten years and I’ll never stop learning — I’ll never stop striving to be better.” says Borboleta Beauty Master Educator/Artist Kelly Clark. “Education is everything, because as artists, inspiration is crucial to our professional growth and key for ensuring client satisfaction and retention.” At Borboleta, we believe you define beauty through artistry — and we do not take that sentiment lightly. We honor great artists and artistry. It’s why we do what we do, and why our education curriculum was built on the art of lashing, and not just application and technique. From shaping the eye and mapping out the perfect blueprint to mixing curls and lengths for a more unique or dramatic look, Borboleta Certified means so much more than just knowing how “to do” lash extensions. It’s our job to help you to see a person’s natural lashes as a blank canvas that can be transformed into a beautiful piece of art.

You Never Stop Improving So We Never Stop Evolving Creating and maintaining a successful lash business really comes down to quality education, and this means quality educators. After all, these are the people you’ve trusted to guide you through this incredible journey. Erin Taylor, Head Educator at Borboleta Beauty, states, “Continued education is so important in this industry. You better yourself, keep up with the trends, hone in your skills and stay ahead of the curve.” At Borboleta, keeping our educators educated ensures that we can adjust and constantly enhance different methods and add new principals and insights so that our students leave feeling prepared to tackle the industry and compete in the marketplace with the utmost confidence. Since we never stop evolving, Borboleta also offers free “refresher courses”, which allow our certified artists to come back — free of charge — and stay up–to–date with the curriculum and get the support they need from our master educators.

Passion Makes Perfect There are a lot of “artists” out there, so how do you set yourself apart? Practicing the craft and passionately pursuing the perfection of the craft are very different things. When we think about your lash business in this regard, we understand the incredible benefits it affords you and your clients. First and foremost, the more meticulously crafted the piece of art, the more it’s worth. The same applies to you and your lash business. Think of it like any other form of higher education. The more you’ve received, the more knowledge and expertise you can provide, and in turn, the more you can charge for your services — and the more people will pay for it. When you have a passion for lashing, you will pursue perfection and become a more educated and refined artist, and you will be able to pass this on to your clients. All of this leads to your clients not just being satisfied, but delighted, and having that blissful moment in front of the mirror when they notice something is different this time around.

Define Beauty Check out our website, borboletabeauty.com, for upcoming courses in your region or give us a call at 801–735–2439 to talk to someone about defining beauty with Borboleta.

However, attending a Borboleta Beauty course is not just for access to our amazing educators. Our courses are an unparalleled environment where you can network, try new things out, make mistakes, brush shoulders with and learn from some of the industry’s best and brightest artists. Just remember, those who aspire to be the best want to learn from and be around those who define the standard. “Surround yourself with people in the industry who are better than you are at your skill. This will motivate you to raise the caliber of your artistry, and become the type of artist you really want to be.” says Borboleta Beauty Founder, Kim Jaynes. “But that’s not all, surround yourself with people who uplift and inspire others, teach and share the secrets of their craft and success, and who seek to truly raise you up to be better because that’s the catalyst for progress and growth across the entire industry.”

Hidden Treasure by Kelly Storer, Enchanted SPA Elly O’Brien is my Hidden Treasure for this issue. An Award winning Lash Artist who doubles as a nurse! Elly has been lashing for 3 years alongside her nursing studies, her glamourous styling and bed side manner have helped her build her business so much that her books are closed to new clients. How to create the

Perfectly Smooth Top Lash Line by Miranda Tarpey

Untidy Top Line

The lash industry has come such a long way in the last few years, we all strive to achieve the PERFECT set of lashes. Whether you work with classic lashes or volume lashes we can still create the perfect top lash line, by working with our natural lash layers and blending curls. We typically have around three lash layers, some fewer if they have more sparse lashes and some could have more layers if they have a very dense natural lash line, but on average we have around 3 layers. There are a few rules we need to keep to when we want to execute the perfect top line. 1.

We must Map, this means writing on our gel patches the lengths and curls to use on our lash styling, this will allow us to work effectively and precisely, minimising any errors especially when changing lengths for a faultless transition.

2.

Working with more than one curl on a lash set will help in creating great lashes

Smooth Top Line

How do we determine lash layers?

Top Layer

Middle Layer

Lower Layer

The top layer are the lashes that you can see clearly and are the most visible to us when we look down at the natural lashes, these sit the highest up to the lid.

The middle layer will be the lashes that are in– between the highest and the lowest layers.

The lowest layer are the lashes that are closest to the gel patches but furthest away from your vision when you are looking down at the lashes, these could sometimes be 2mm difference in distance from the top layer.

Lower layer should be your longest length and the curliest curl Example

Remember to also change 1mm across the lash line each time for a smooth transition in your styling, in addition to your changes within the layers.

If we are lashing in the same section

12mm D Curl

Middle Layer should be 1mm shorter than lowest layer and you can use a curlier curl Example

If we are lashing in the same section

11mm CC Curl

Extended Mapping If you look at all the layers together, you can clearly see that there is a difference in distance from the top layer, middle layer and the lower layer, so to create that smooth top line we need to adjust our lengths and curls for each layer. So once you have decided your lash style for your client, you then need to lash map to include the layers, we call this extended mapping.

Featured Salon

Fabulash

Hello, my name is Pam and my home based salon in Enfield, North London, is called Fabulash. I work from an annex in the garden which is extra beautiful to work from in the summer and I solely do Eyelash extensions and lash lift treatments. I never imagined my business to take off as much as it did, and so quickly. Prior to this, I was actually a fraud analyst working in central London. I loved the buzz of the job but always felt there was something missing and was always working with something so negative in the world. I had always dreamt of working for myself in something that made people happy. I knew the happiness I felt whenever I had eyelash extensions on myself so I thought this could be the direction for me. I did a one–day training course and completed my case studies on friends. Those friends fluttering their eyelashes then lead to lots of demand from local girls wanting their lashes done too. Within just three months of training, I had enough clientele to leave behind the world of fraud and go full–time Fabulash!

27 - Lashes

I am now utterly obsessed with lashes and love nothing more than scrolling through Instagram looking at all the lovely sets people have done. I absolutely love my job and the clients who come through my door have all become friends. I feel I go alongside them in their life events, from not just holidays and parties, but from clients whose lashes I do for their weddings and then continue to see them right up until they welcome their first child. I’d love to teach others to become eyelash technicians in the future and of course, the biggest dream would be to own a salon of my own too. I love how much the industry has grown already in the 5 years since I first started. It’s becoming bigger and bigger and I can’t wait to see what will be around in the years to come.

Profile

Hilaree Brand from My Brand Lashes

When did you first find out about eyelash extensions? When I was 16 and in my Cosmetology program. Here I am 16 years later, still obsessed. Where did you first train? My first “training” was in 2009. I had taught myself how to apply eyelash extensions in 2003 and when I took my course, I quickly realized that my teacher didn’t know much about eyelashes, adhesive or styling. Lashes were still very new in the Utah beauty world. No one was really teaching at that time. To make my way through, I knew I had to apply safety and sanitation along with rules of styling that I had been taught through my cosmetology program. I don’t recommend being self-taught. Especially in this day when there is SO much information available to the lash artists of the industry. What attracted you to the Industry? I have always loved making things pretty. Humans are the most lovely when they feel beautiful. When did you know, lashes were your passion? Lashes aren’t my passion. People are my passion. Teaching is my passion. Speaking is my passion. Making people feel beautiful is my passion. Thank God, Lashes have been the vessel that has allowed me to do all of these things. What did you do before being a Lash Artist? Oh boy! What didn’t I do? The small list includes Photographer, Florist, Hair Stylist, Aesthetician. Other things include Movie ticket taker, fast food worker, and telemarketer. Funny how looking back, all of these things have helped my business tremendously! Tell me about Your Business. My Brand Lashes was born out of a need to survive. Just after my first son was born, my husband was still in college and we were B-R-O-K-E! As in, you have 30$ left for the month. Would you like to buy food or gas in the car to go to work so that you can buy food?

29 - Lashes

I remember panicking because I was a new mother and when the economy tanked in 2008 people postponed and stopped buying the luxury things, like haircuts/color and flowers. My husband was a waiter and he was making sometimes as little as 7$ a night. While contemplating the problem we had, I revisited the idea of eyelash extensions as a means to make ends meet. Funny thing, I didn’t think for some reason that lashes were a luxury Item that people wouldn’t buy. I knew I needed a new lash kit as I had been primarily focusing on hair for the previous years. My plan was that if I could get 5 people at 50$ per person to help me purchase a kit that was 250$, I would be in business. They would get free lashes for life if they would simply show off their lashes, refer me to their friends and I would be booked. Honestly, looking back, it was a little naive to think it would work out so smoothly, but the crazy part is that it DID work out that smoothly. Within 4 months I went from a home based business to a private suit. Six months later I was so busy I hired my first employee opened an actual lash bar in American Fork, Utah. Shortly after, I moved to Las Vegas and opened another salon. I started the first Lash tips of the day called My Brand Lashes Tip Of The Day on Instagram. That is now a very popular thing that many companies are now also doing and I am SO happy about it. It was definitely time to stop holding secrets and start raising the industry standards from the inside out. Because of my Tips of The Day, I was being asked to fly to Sweden to teach a Volume Course and the traveling is now a big part of my life. When I first started traveling I didn’t really have a product line and I would cherry pick items from other companies that worked well for volume lashes. After a while, it was clear that I needed my own product line. Together, with my business partner Selena Villanueva we created a lash line that was both Fun and functional. Having been an artist in the chair I knew things that I wanted that would make my lash life easier. We were the first to color code our line and add the curl, length, and diameter to our strips. We hand test every tweezer so that we know it will perform. I wanted a lash line that made me a better lash artist. My Brand Lashes main mission is to uplift Lash Artists everywhere. We don’t take life too seriously, but we take Lashes VERY seriously.

Lash Profile

Carmen Palmiste Lash Inc: When did you first find out about eyelash extensions? Carmen: Eyelash extensions arrived in Estonia in 2004. My mother had her first set done in 2006. It was her idea, back then to send me to a course and learn how to apply them, so she could get a free treatment. LI: Where did you first train? What attracted you to the industry? C: I was living in Ireland at the time. Since I had been there for only 6 months, fitting in took time, so I wanted to study something. I browsed through all of Dublin’s training academies and what they were teaching because I wanted to take advanced make–up courses. I had been doing mini–courses in my close community of friends and acquaintances so already knew quite a lot. But after seeing the prices, I felt it was too big of an investment at that point in time. So I kept on looking for other courses available. That was when I came across a lash extensions course, and that was when I remembered my mother’s idea from a while ago. I decided to take the course just out of curiosity but had no intention of ever actually working in the field. I simply felt the need to learn something new. On the day of the course, I changed my mind about going, as I was 5 months pregnant and kept making up excuses, not to go – I’m pregnant, I’m fat, I feel nauseated, I’m tired, and I don’t feel confident with my English skills. In response to this, the door was opened, and I was pushed out the door. In the end, my whole lash–journey began because of my husband. I would’ve quit before I even started, without his push.

lashing, and it also gave me an opportunity to see my friends more often. Like all beginners, the lashes I did, fell out fast. 9 months after the first course, I had accumulated a full clientele list, and we decided that my husband would stay home with the child, and I would start working full time on my new occupation – Lash technician. Since then, I have quit this occupation three times. In retrospect, it may have been due to constant overworking. I did not yet accept the fact, that I actually liked what I did. The thought of working for someone else and not being in control of my own time was more scary. So, after 3 years of hard work, I eventually realized, I actually love lashing. Right after the last time I decided to take a break from lashing, another lash technician managed to insult me and my work. So I decided to take out my tools again and out of pure spite, I focused all my anger into bettering my skills and showing everyone, what I’m truly capable of and that they were heavily underestimating me. In my present– day training courses, I tell all my students, no matter what it is – anger, love, passion, curiosity – use it as fuel to keep growing. A wise man – my mentor, taught me this principle a long time ago. Only after I had reached a certain level of skill, beyond anything I ever imagined I would reach, I realised that it wasn’t really just anger I was moving upwards with, it was passion, love and dedication combined, which made me able to break through. And over time, I learned to love my work. The beginning is always difficult and hard to love, but once you climb the hill and reach the peak, you will love what you have accomplished.

LI: When did you know they were your passion?

LI: What did you do before being a lash artist?

C: At first, I must say, I didn’t really like the lashing work. I only did it, because I was pregnant, at home and bored out of my mind. Shortly after I finished my first course in lashing, we moved back to Estonia (my homeland). Since I had so many friends here, I instantly had a lot of friends, who wanted lash extensions done. I wasn’t officially working at the time, so I decided to kill time by

C: I was a customer service worker in cafes and bars. I also was an event coordinator and Office worker. I’ve tried many things, but there’s always something that bothered me. It may have been the inability to plan my own time. I’ve never enjoyed, when someone told me what and when to do. I’m stubborn like that. Must be inherited from my mom.

31 - Lashes

LI: Tell me about your business C: For many years, I worked on other salons at a daily rent agreement until I finally opened my first own salon. It was difficult to run so; I sold it as I felt that running a salon isn’t really my thing. I returned to renting workspace as opposed to owning one. After a while, the demand for bigger training classes and more regular timetable grew to a point where a rented space was too small for my need. That was when I decided to try again. I started out small, just two workplaces and a place to sit. Customers feet were almost out the door. Fast forward 9 months and just like a baby, this humble place turned into a fully–grown salon and training centre which can fit up to 20 beds. This growth–year has been the most turbulent and exciting for me. I have finally fulfilled many of my goals and can now set new ones. LI: Anything else you wish to add? C: You have to dream big! No matter what anyone says, you must stay true to yourself. Listen to your heart and just move onwards and upwards. Always listen to criticism and learn from it, but ignore those, who have nothing constructive to say. If I could do it, anyone can. Most of all, respect yourself and others will too! LI: Short tutorial or hints and tips for lash artists C: Training, training, training – Information is the highest value of our times. Where else will you get the best knowledge than from the master trainers!? It does not matter if it’s a group training, conference, online courses or webinars, you need to stay on top of it all. If you want to become more than a “fly on the wall”, you need to make this your lifestyle, you must eat, sleep, think and breathe “lashes.” But never forget to take the time to kick back and relax once in a while. Private life and work have to be separated and balanced. Good luck!

Julia Baltulioniene Interview with by Elvira Miftakhova

could do it – I am precise and diligent. A chance to learn more about the procedure came soon during one of my visits to Lithuania. I contacted a girl who was a lash master and a coach working from home. Although she couldn’t provide any certificates, she simply taught me how to apply lashes, and it was enough to start. Did you improve your skills at the official courses? I lacked the theoretical knowledge and had to master many skills by myself, which was hard until I got my first official diploma on classic lash extensions at Baltic Beauty School in 2012. After that, I got acquainted with volume technique from Loreta Jasilionyte in 2013. Later, in 2015 I attended Tatiana Terentyeva‘s and Polina Glebanova‘s courses. I regularly participate in conferences and lash events, which are a great opportunity to expand my knowledge, networking skills and to make friends. For example, I took part in Lash Summit and Lash Boom World in Moscow last year. Julija, the most unbelievable thing about you is the story of your achievements at multiple lash competitions. Tell us from the beginning how it all happened?

The name of Julija Baltulionienė is well known in the lash industry. She is a multiple world lash competitions winner, talented lash master, trainer and an owner and creative director of Lash Art Studio “Lashes by Juli”. Her bright start up in the lash extension contests began in 2015. And to the end of 2016, you can hardly imagine, she participated in five championships and won awards in 8 nominated categories! Behind all these achievements we can see a stunning young lady with a charming smile. What is so special about her that led to such a success? Is it some extraordinary luck or great talent or strong determination? 33 - Lashes

Julija, tell us about where you had lived before and why you moved to England. It happened by chance that we moved to the UK. Actually, we didn’t plan to leave Vilnius (Lithuania) with my husband. I’ve got a bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology at Vilnius University and was going to continue my studies and to pursue a scientific path. After the graduation in 2009, my husband was looking for a job but didn’t find any because of the economic crisis. As soon as he got a job offer in England he left, and after a year of master’s program, I followed him. It was not easy at all to find myself in the foreign country without any friends or acquaintances. Besides, I didn’t know the language and was expecting a baby. How did you find yourself in the lash industry? What inspired you to take this decision? Soon after the birth of my son in 2011, I felt a lack of activities in my life – I wanted to do something besides being a mother. I started searching for some hobby to keep me busy. I had my lash extensions applied a couple of times before and I became curious about it. At that time I didn’t know anything about eyelash extensions, but I knew I

It is amazing but from the beginning, I had neither plans for contests nor did I plan for the long term lash master career. It did not seem serious enough to me. Actually, I was going to finish my career or to put it on hold and start a Master’s program in London. To obtain a Master’s degree in Biomedical Research was my greatest ambition and I was preparing for it for a long time. Everything had changed after I came second in my first “Lash Battle” in 2015. It was a big surprise for me especially considering the fact that I decided to participate at the last moment and even had no model for the contest. I was taken aback with my victory and made up my mind to continue and become a professional. So after that contest, I had to make a very hard decision. It became clear that I won’t be able to handle a lash clientele and to be a scientist at the same time. My choice came from the heart, and even though I didn’t plan it, I chose not to continue my academic studies and to put all efforts into my lash career. We are humans, and I must say sometimes it’s very difficult to make a choice and to understand what’s hidden deep inside your heart, what is your ambition and your passion. I decided not to follow my ambition and to do something I am really in love with. People keep asking me if I regret my decision – that I left my studies behind. I can honestly tell – nope! I am really happy with my choice! I enjoy every day of my life and I am excited about everything I do.

should pay attention to time management – at the contest, you will have to follow a strict timeframe. That means you’ll need to find a balance between quality and the speed of your work – to work fast and to perform at 100% quality (full coverage, no stickies, consistent fans – to say the least). And my last point – I would strongly recommend going to pre–competition workshops as it is helpful to gain confidence and to learn some small but important details about competitions. You have opened a beautiful Last Art studio in Reading, the design and atmosphere of it speak for itself. Can you tell us more about it? How did this idea about the studio come up? Have you designed everything yourself or someone helped you?

Later I took part in other championships– “Les Victoires du Regard” in Paris, “Europe Lash Championship” in Krakow, Poland, the second “Lash Battle”. My most recent contest was hosted by Olympia Beauty in London – “The Lash Games”. And the result was a 100% victory! How did you get this? Can you give some advice to cheer up professionals who avoid participating in the competitions because of the tense atmosphere? You are right, it’s not easy at all to take part in this kind of championships. The situation of comparison, lack of time, fear of failure are stressful indeed. For the first time I didn’t expect to win, I just wanted to challenge myself. I advise any master, who can reasonably evaluate their own skills level, to go and see everything with their own eyes! At least it would be a great opportunity to develop your skills and find out what others can do. Competitions give us a great chance to understand our current place in the industry, to find our weakest points, to improve them and to move forward. I would say participation is more important than winning. Championships as well help us to earn respect from our customers and colleagues, to promote our business, to make friends in the industry. If you are willing to compete, then try to make your yearly plans and set your goals, plan time for participation in competitions. In terms of preparing for championships, I would advise to start at least a month in advance. There are many nuances you have to keep in mind. You should find a perfect model, have your strategy for the competition, remember all the rules and regulations. You

At the end of 2015, when I chose my Lash–Path, I decided to put my heart and soul into becoming a professional in this field. At that point, I was working from home and already had a huge clientele. Taking a right decision encouraged me to move forward and by the end of 2015, I set my goals for the next year. My plans were: to take part in 4 more competitions (7 nominations), to accomplish the teaching accreditation I started at the end of 2015 and to open my own studio. It took about half a year to search for the property and to finish the legal paperwork. Here in the UK legal formalities take a long time. I started looking for a place in November 2015 and we opened our doors in July 2016. We spent about 2 months on renovating works. I was dreaming about my studio for a long time, I knew how it should look like, I thought about every small detail and the way I wanted it to be done.

What are you up to these days? The last couple of months have been incredibly busy for me. Besides regular training courses and workshops in my studio, I travel abroad to give masterclasses and to judge at international competitions. For example, I have just returned from my Pre–Competition Workshop in Ireland and I am preparing for the next trip. Also, I invest a lot of time in my education – I attend different courses and workshops, and when I have a spare minute, I like to listen to podcasts, I am interested in psychology and human relationships. In all that busy working schedule I try to find some quality time to spend with my family, my son and my husband. Do you have some other projects in your mind? Yes, I do. I have an idea, I want to create some special project which I hope would serve to the benefit of people, yet it is too early to talk about it.

I feel so grateful when my clients say that it’s the only place where they can relax and calm down. We have relaxing music playing all day through, comfortable beds and pillows, warm blankets and a peaceful and quiet environment where ladies can get their beauty sleep. I must say our clients leave the studio happy and joyful. And it’s a pleasure for me to make them happy and to deliver high standards of services to them. Speaking about our services, in contrast to most salons in the UK we offer only lash extensions, focusing on high–quality services and a variety of different techniques. Also, we suggest eyebrow modelling and correction. Since I have joined Flawless Lashes and have become an accredited trainer, my studio offers individual and group coaching in Classic and Volume eyelash extensions, as well as mentoring sessions and pre–competition workshops. In future, I plan to develop and extend my studio so it could work independently without my deep involvement.

Lash Lifting Competition

The Elleebana Global Lash Lifting Competition has continued to explode in its 2nd year of running. The competition saw over a massive 800 entries and we were absolutely astounded by the overwhelming response the competition has had. Last year, the competition was heavily dominated with Australian entries, but now, the rest of the world is providing heavy competition. The Elleebana Global Lash Lifting Competition is the only online competition for lash lifting in the world. The competition started with an idea to create a platform for lash artists to become inspired by other artists and to showcase their own amazing work. The standard of work that is being produced is phenomenal and the team at Elleebana are so impressed with high level of competition. The competition has provided lash artists with connections to network with other industry professionals, learn ways to perfect their techniques and provided motivation to ‘lift’ their game and provide an amazing lash lift. The popularity in the art of lash lifting has certainly boomed and is continually on the rise. It makes our team very proud that lash lifting is now receiving the recognition it deserves. We are excited to see the level of competition next year and anticipate even more entries! If you would like to know more or to train with us, please contact us at www. elleebana.com. We have trainers and distributors all over the world ready to help you add this amazing and profitable service into your salon today.

Edit

by Melanie Doyle & Rebecca Goulding A great review on how to look your summer best in 2017, the new makeup style is nude skin that just glows and gives the most youthful appearance and my favourite has to be the Hour Glass Cosmetics they are just wonderful!

How to get the most amazing summer skin Hourglass’ collection of Ambient powders have gained cult status for the ethereal glow they produce, and the latest addition, Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder takes that up a notch. Whereas the original Ambient Lighting Powder is sold as a finishing product to add subtle radiance and enliven skin all over, the Strobe version is intended to be used as a strategically placed highlighter, with more sparkle and shimmer than previous Ambient powders. The result? Amazing skin that catches every single light in the sky! Packaged in Hourglass’ trademark Hourglass Cosmetics Ambient mirrored-finish compact, Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder Strobe Lighting Powder has a soft-to-the-touch, pressed powder 0.16 fl. oz. for £40 texture that blends seamlessly over skin. It comes in four attractively luminous shades to cater to different skin tones: “Iridescent” is described as an “illuminating pink”; “Incandescent” is an “opalescent pearl”; Euphoric = “pearlescent beige”; and “Brilliant” has a “shimmering gold” tone. Each goes on sheer so it’s less about the colour and more about the lit from within glow they add. As Hourglass puts it, Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder utilizes, “ultra-fine micro pearl particles in varying sizes and refraction levels to give off a naturally luminescent highlight to the skin without a heavy metallic finish.”

43 - Beauty

The finely-milled, pearlescent sparkle highlights skin without looking overtly glittery or frosty and the effect builds softly, it’s hard to overdo it with this product (no stark lines of contrast, no chunky/flaky glitter). That’s great because many highlighting products lay down too much shine all at once. For more dramatic luminosity and colour payoff, Hourglass suggests using Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder wet. That’s doable, although it takes more effort to blend smoothly. In a nutshell, Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder works well for the technique it’s named after*, and the fragrance-free formula earns my seal of approval due to its luxurious, smooth texture, gorgeous, luminous shades, and brightening, reflective sheen. You certainly don’t have to pay this much to get a good highlighter, but if you’re in the mood to splurge, Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder hits the spot. *Wondering what “strobing” is? Strobing is a highlighting technique that creates dimension by using illuminating products (i.e. highlighting the tops of cheekbones to make them pop, etc.). Simply put, it’s the shimmering alternative to the contouring trend.

Pros: •

Soft-to-the-touch pressed powder texture blends seamlessly over skin.

Sheer colour and subtle, reflective sheen give skin a lit from within glow.

Finely-milled sparkle enlivens skin without looking overtly glittery.

Works well for strategic highlighting (“strobing”).

Cons: •

None.

Leaf by Angelic Garza A little about the inventor

Second, I was embarrassed for people to see my spoon in my make-up bag. No joke, one girl asked me if I smoked crack! Haha! In other words, it's tacky. I like to use the example of a tissue box VS toilet paper...they both accomplish the same thing and are made out of the same material, However, they were designed for different uses. You wouldn't see rolls of toilet paper in your living room or place of business - in the same way, Lash Leaf was designed for comfortable lash curling

My name is Angelic Garza, single mother of two, of Hereford, TX. I moved to Phoenix, AZ over 17 years ago. I worked in banking for 6 years and went to So, all you ladies that used a spoon to curl your lashes - you can save your cosmetology school during my last year in banking. spoon for dinner and finally use something that’s comfortable & specifically I have worked in the cosmetology field specializing designed for this task! in alternative hair for over 11 years. Over three Tested by Me years ago I opened my very own specialized hair At first I found it difficult to master the curling of the lashes but once I salon called “La Maison de Cheveux” in north managed to use it correctly with the help of Angelic’s video I fell in love, Glendale, AZ. it's pretty amazing and the results can last for days, it really is a great little How did I invent Lash Leaf? Let me just be clear. I did not invent the concept of lash curling, I simply made a design that was easy & comfortable to use thanks to the help of my dad and brother! I'm proud to say it's Made in the USA! Why did I invent Lash Leaf if I was already using a spoon? In my culture, it is very common to use a spoon for lash curling and it is a tradition that I take pride in passing on to the following generations. First reason, no matter what size or type of spoon I used, they all hurt and were uncomfortable. I tried baby spoons, fancy spoons, soup spoons, cheap spoons - you name it.

Ensure the ‘Lash Sanitiser’ is used before each application.

Samples available upon request

Why you need

‘Lash Sanitiser’

For treating lash strips, remove a new strip from the tray and spray it with sanitiser from a distance of approximately 15cm. You can spray twice to ensure the spray has covered the strip thoroughly.

For a jar of loose lashes, drip a small amount of ‘Lash Sanitiser’ into the jar before each application. Take some lashes out and dry in a clean container.

It is a common misconception that lash extensions come sterilised within the packaging, but this is unfortunately not the case. Every effort is made to ensure lash products are cleansed before they are released to market, but there is always a risk that products can collect dust and dirt, especially throughout the hand-crafted manufacturing process and lengthy storage periods. Combining this with the fact that, within a salon, each box of lash extensions may be used numerous times by various technicians, the risk of such complications as bacteria growth and eye infections are very real. To re-use a tray of extensions without considering the consequences could expose clients and technicians to risks that could be reduced so simply. An added benefit of the ‘Lash Sanitiser’ is that it dramatically reduces the curing speed of the lash adhesive, resulting in a much more efficient application process. Be careful that you do not overuse it, however, as this can melt the tape under the lashes, causing them to stick together. Ensure the lash sanitiser is used before each application. As well as cleansing the lashes, this will also make the client feel much more confident and trusting in your abilities. Never use on a client's natural eyelashes.
