Viva King Antonio! Michael Casillas – King Antonio XCV For the past ninety-five years, the Texas Cavaliers have selected one of their members to serve as King Antonio and reign over the San Antonio celebration known as Fiesta. In keeping with this tradition, the Cavaliers have selected Dr. Michael “Mike” Casillas as King Antonio XCV.
“I look forward to seeing all of San Antonio united in celebration of the different cultures that together make San Antonio the great city it is,” says Mike Casillas. “And I hope to spread the message that an act of kindness is the greatest gift you can give or receive.” Mike’s San Antonio roots date back eight generations to a member of Governor Martin de Alcorn’s expedition, which founded San Antonio on May 5, 1718. In addition, he has multiple Canary Islander ancestors who established the first municipal government in San Antonio in 1731. Mike’s proud heritage and his commitment to and love for his city, will radiate during Fiesta when he represents San Antonio as the first Hispanic King Antonio. Mike, christened Michael Albert Casillas, was born in San Antonio on February 19, 1964, to Albert and Margaret Casillas. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1982, attended UTSA, and, in 1989, received a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. After graduation, Mike completed residencies in General Practice and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Denver, Colorado. Upon completion, Mike returned home and became a partner in San Antonio Surgical Arts, where he has been practicing oral surgery for 22 years. Mike married his high school sweetheart, Jessica Trevino, in 1989, and the couple has two sons, Julian, 24, and Matthew, 22. Mike and Jessica enjoy spending time with friends and family, fishing in Port Aransas, playing golf, and live music events. Mike is proudly joined in the Texas Cavaliers by two brothers. Mark, an orthopedic surgeon, is the current President of the Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation and Fred, an attorney, is completing his second year of Board service for The Texas Cavaliers. The Texas Cavaliers elected Mike to their organization in 2003 and in the span of his service, he has performed multiple roles: served as a board member of the Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation for three years; coordinated the activities of the River Parade as Parade Marshal in 2013; led the 600-strong Texas Cavalier membership as Commander, while serving on the Executive Committee of the Fiesta Commission in 2015 – 2016. His commitment and successful performance in these key roles ultimately led to his election as King Antonio XCV.
