It’s beginning to look a lot like... Well you know how the song goes and I can’t believe we are into the last few months of the year already! It’s gone so fast!

There’s so much going on in the area so make sure you take a look at What’s on Local for plenty to keep little ones busy over the half term break, festive season and everything in between. I’ll be keeping our Facebook page up to date with new events as I find them so do keeping checking on there for the very latest information.

I do hope you all have the East Midlands Baby & Toddler Show in your diary for 5th November at Trent Vineyard Conference Centre. It’s a great day out and the perfect place to meet and experience lots of activities, products and services which are for families with younger children. And even better it’s FREE ENTRY if you pre-register - all the details are on page 2.

“With more than 1 in every 10 women suffering from some sort of postnatal depression within a year of giving birth, it’s a much more common than most people would think. And the expectation for new mums to be joyful at the arrival of their little one can often make it difficult to come to terms that things aren’t ok and to ask for help.

Many new mums feel a bit down, tearful or anxious in the first week after giving birth, especially given the shock to the system of hormones getting back on track and the sudden lack of sleep! This is often called the “baby blues” and is so common that it’s considered normal. However these shouldn’t last for more than two weeks after giving birth so if your symptoms last longer or start later, you could have postnatal depression.

We catch up with the new baby signing teacher for TinyTalk’s Newark classes...

“I first discovered the joy and excitement of Tiny Talk with my daughter Lucie through attending classes when she was 7 weeks old.

When Lucie signed her first sign ‘get up’, quickly followed by ‘milk’, at 5 months, it was such a magical moment.

To know that this tiny person was communicating her needs before she could speak was just amazing and I was totally hooked! Now 18 months on Lucie is signing over 120 signs and saying 100 words. Babies and toddlers really do have so much to say! And I’m delighted to now be able to share my love of signing as the TinyTalk teacher for Newark!

The classes are 1 hour long and are a mix of sign and sing, music, bubbles, sensory balls and mirrors, as well as social time for babies and grown ups. Baby signing is amazing and it gives us as parents and our families an insight into what our little ones are actually thinking as well as what they are interested in.
