Wildlife Workshops will return on Tuesday 26th when visitors will have chance to see and touch some weird and wonderful creatures. Booking essential for Wildlife Day all activities are FREE.

BUGS WEEK 25 - 30 October

Come along to take part in some FREE fun Autumnal activities! There will be chance to see and handle some exciting animals or try your hand at making a bat or bird box to keep your feathered or furry friends warm over the coming winter months. The event is free and there will be refreshments served by the Friends of The Erewash Museum in the Hayloft.

CHRISTMAS FAIR 18 December 11am - 2pm

Christmas arrives at the museum with a visit from Santa down in the stables, there will also be craft stalls and mince pies served in the Hayloft! Admission is FREE, £1 charge per child to visit Santa!

After the birth of my twins, I knew I had to do something positive to get back into shape. I decided to give Bottom Line fitness a call, I knew that I didn’t have much time in the week that I called my own and I needed motivation to exercise to a level where I would get results. I found that having an appointment to work to meant that I didn’t postpone my exercise as much as you do when you just join a gym. It also gave me time that was just for me and helped me to lose the baby weight and improve my confidence.

I am really glad that I took time out to do some exercise and I really feel that it has paid off and along with lots of Buggy pushing and rushing around, I feel fit and healthy and able to get back into some work and be a healthier Mum!

Alvaston mum Nicky Macmillan tells us about her new group for Mums-to-Be & Mums of the under 2’s...

At first I was really nervous about the launch of my new Bumps to Twos group. Being a non-profit group, one concern was if it would get enough response to cover the rather high running costs.

But Thurs 9th Sept saw all my worries disappear. I had 35 families arrive at 1pm at the Community centre on Boulton Lane in Alvaston, and though my Facebook page, I’ve had some fantastic responses.

The first raffle prize that was won, was a beautiful baby memory box, donated by Imogen Croft from Babybox.biz, and the mum that won it was thrilled.

The idea for the group came to me during my second pregnancy, I just really wanted to go somewhere that I could meet other mums-to-be, relax

I’m so pleased to say, during the launch I met some really lovely ladies, and already felt the beginning of many new friendships.

Lots for Little Minds...

Little Explorers College Takes Root Derby College is planning to create a brand new day nursery, after school and holiday club at its picturesque Broomfield Hall campus.

Little Explorers will be a 54 place nursery, catering for children aged three months to five years and then older children after school and during the holidays. It is due to open in early 2011 – replacing the existing facilities at the College’s Mackworth site.

The College nursery will be based in a new purpose-built £400,000 building in the heart of the Broomfield Hall landbased campus which is easily accessible for staff and students based at the other College sites in Derby city, Ilkeston and Heanor and also for local families.

Little Explorers will be based on the outdoor nursery model, developed in Scandinavia, where most of the day is spent outside – exploring the natural environment and will be the first in the area to have Forest School status Head of Broomfield Hall Louise Curd explained: “We are very excited about the new Little Explorers nursery at Broomfield Hall which will provide the children with wonderful purpose-built facilities

in a countryside setting to that they can enjoy their surroundings and gain a real appreciation of environmental issues as part of the pre-school curriculum.

“The concept for Little Explorers will be to use the outdoors as a classroom. It is important to emphasis that the outdoors is enjoyable, good for children and to teach them how to enjoy it.”

‘Little Explorers’ Broomfield Hall in Morley This unique nursery is set in the picturesque grounds of the historic hall, will provide high quality care for children aged from 3 months old to 5 years old with clubs running for older children during school holidays.

Within the grounds the children have access to the farm estate covering 450 acres including an outdoor classroom where the children can gain hands-on skills and experiences.

Here is a little Chinese folk tale - do any of you recognise it?

One day a fox encountered a very fierce looking tiger. “I’m going to eat you!” said the tiger. “Oh don’t do that”, said the fox, “why don’t we travel together instead. If you stay behind me and the other animals are not afraid of me, then you can eat me up!” So they travelled the road together. As soon as the other animals saw the tiger, they ran away in fear. “See?” said Fox. “I was walking in front, and they saw me before they could see you! Now who is the scariest animal in this forest?” Tiger hung his head and put his tail between his legs… and ran away… You see he hadn’t realised that everyone had seen them both and that Fox had borrowed Tiger’s own terrible appearance to frighten them away!
