Hello, Welcome to the sunshine! I am writing this with my air-con on full blast in my office on a Thursday morning in June and all I can see is blue sky. What a turn the weather has taken since the cold Coronation weekend. Football is done for a while, and it must be summer as The Ashes is about to begin – Come on Bazball! Come on England! A great Ashes victory will be just what the summer needs to keep the beer gardens filled and the sporting momentum thriving. What are pins?
Pins are smaller containers for cask conditioned ale. Containing 4.5 gallons of ale, they are half the size of a traditional 9 gallon rkin. This means you only need to sell 12 pints a day to maintain quality (rather than 24 when using rkins), which is vital for keeping your ale drinkers happy.
Why and when should I use pins vs firkins?
There are 3 reasons to stock pins:

To add cask ale to your line up.
To broaden your range of ales.
To offer cask ale during quieter times of the week.
Pins are not always the best option for your venue
If you sell a full rkin every 3 days you do not need to switch to pins – however, you may want to add more choice to your range and pins are a great way of doing that.

The perfect way to tap in to the growing market place for offering a great range of British Beers is to offer a great range of British Bottled Beers. You can do food matching evenings with them, sell them as off-sales to stop your customers going to the supermarkets or just display a great range on the back bar to entice a purchase.
